I am a tad younger but I remember a LOT of what you posted above Terry.
Am I a time machine in training?
Awesome post for the cusp of 2016/2017!
which world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.. the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.. there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.
everywhere you found telephone booths!
a call was a nickle.where did all those telephone booths go?i dunno.where did my whole world go?i dunno.. tv sets were huge boxes with tubes and small screens.

maybe this will become a new catch phrase describing the type of people that the governing body loves to have in their organization and that they create if they're born ins.. broke......dumb......& stupid.
let me explain:.
broke: the gb keeps their members in poverty by condemning higher education and demanding that all their time should be spent peddling the wt propaganda and going to all the meetings.
They even have a "term" for broke, dumb and stupid...
they call it "sheeplike".
Trying to make it sound spiritually desirable.
The fact that none of the their own Bible "heroes" (Moses ,David, Apostle Paul etc..) were docile or even poor, escapes their notice.
when i was a zealous publisher, once i took co for a return visit to learn how he handles difficult questions.
house holder brought the subject of joshua secretly sending two spies to spy out the city of jericho before its planned conquest, and asked: “wasn’t joshua acting in a human way here?
why would joshua need to send spies if he was the commander-in-chief appointed by god the almighty?”.
“Working with a religion is like working in the office world. If someone wants to be better, that one needs to take classes, certifications, read books, gather concepts, ideas to talk the talk. It is all about gathering information. That does not work in ‘spirituality.’ Spirituality is being in harmony with the nature, living Life with joy. Look at the particles—they are all dancing; and everything is made with particle, hence basis of everything is joy. Religion has no role to play other than making money.”
This is going to be my thought for the day annointed1.
Thank you for writing it down.
Please tell this former C.O. (if you are in contact with him)
that his words above have been more helpful to me than any other C.O. ever was.
while growing up in the cult one thing that always bothered me was the way witnesses could forecast jobs/occupations that we're going to vanish in their new world.. for example, we would usually discuss at saturday night wt studies how doctors, nurses, funeral directors, and soldiers would go the way of the dodo.
i always found discussions like that just so strange.. in hs, i mounted an unsuccessful effort to enter veterinary sciences, the big answer was always "why" it won't be needed after armageddon 😝😜.
does anyone have their own story about professions that the witnesses believe will not be needed after the big a ?.
"..... and no religion too......"
been reading this site for awhile now.
i have had a long and often tragic life as a jw.
my story is so long because i'm pretty old :) i feel sad i've been locked in fear and guilt for my entire life.
Welcome Phoebe,
Your story is so touching and I am so looking forward to getting to know you here in our "safe place on the net".
Your original post is going to help so many people, thank you for being willing to put yourself out there to help and encourage others.
I already find you amazing.
in the time since i've left the borg behind i've had a few things hit me as to how words were used.
i'm wondering if anyone else has some similar examples, but here are some things that have made me think:.
watchtower - my whole life i saw this as a thing of protection from outside evil forces, and then when i left someone pointed out "isn't that what they used to keep people in prison".
"Food at the proper time..."
(snort)
very interesting when you consider how many times they have had to double back and reverse their stand as well as coming up with "new light".
on the subject welcome others the new light is i can now have limited association with df and da ones at the kingdom hall not strictl avoidance..
They are so afraid to loosen their ONE death grip of control they have over obedient members.
you think that coming to this site or other anti-jw sites and showing you support for the org is noble.
knowing how brainwashed you are makes me cringe and disgustes me and i am sure others here on the forum.
becasue your in a cult and can't see it.
goingthroughthemotions,
I understand why you feel angry and know that it is legitimate.
I just wanted to say that I really appreciate you starting this thread. Being able to appreciate each others views is the most healthy way to move forward and you have made a space (this thread) where we can talk about it, so thank you my friend.

Great post cobweb!
I came here all wounded and shattered but still believing....
I almost left because of the cold superior attitude of one poster.
Fortunately, the warmth of other posters combined with the fact that they were telling the truth and the JWs were not kept me here.
Now I see the whole JW religion for what it is and have a more stable emotional foundation under my feet. This helps me to take blunt or even rude posts with a very tiny grain of salt.
This is a most wonderful forum with some extremely bright, kind and wickedly funny people and Im so glad I didnt crumple and slink away back when I was so very thin skinned.
There is a lot to be learned here...ignore what you dont need or want in your life.
I like the line from a song...
"take what you need and leave the rest..."
my wife and i started to watch this last night and have covered only 2 episodes so far but it is really interesting.. there are so many similarities between scientology and wt.
not in beliefs of course but in their shunning, of their version of apostates etc.. it was amusing for me to see my active jw wife watch and get all indignant.
at one point a statement was made that a religion "shouldn't separate families" and she muttered to herself "absolutely not".. i am kind of hoping that jws will watch and see what is being carried on by a high control cult and eventually recognize it in their own lives.
It would be amazing if Leah extended her scope to other similar religions. Her existing notoriety would lend itself to more publicity, which would make it easier for the average jw to actually hear some of whats out there.
