that "loving brotherhood" was as real as monopoly money. The currency reveals its worth when you walk away from the game.
Great analogy
i've been as honest as i can on this forum throughout my time bouncing in and out..and been jumped on for saying anything positive about the "truth" or my experiences at the hall, but it's been a few years now since i have been attending meetings.
i go to the memorial for family reasons and went to the assembly today for the same reason...but one observation i have to make is most of us have all dealt with years of hearing how gawd awful "the world" is and how the only happiness is going to meetings and out in service.
now that is total bs.
hello.. i am a young 18 year old danish guy, who is a baptized jw.
since one year ago i have been maturing gradually and asking questions about many things, not only about jw stuff(which has caused some problems.
but nothing i couldnt handle with a bit of social skill).
Hello CitizenoftheEarth,
I admire the rational approach you are taking.
I am not good at finding past information here but perhaps someone who is could show you two things...
the JW flags flying at a convention site.
The national flag of a South American country in the window of a Kingdom Hall.
This selective stand on what they say is absolute neutrality (Malawi for example) makes them look exactly like what they are.
All the best to you in your quest.
i just thought about my old congregation where an elder met worldly married couple in field service some years ago.
the couple knew me for years but we do not know each other very well and they mentioned my name to him and he started to talk bad things about me!
wtf!
Elders seem to be the worst for doing this.
I wonder why?
Is it because they have a supposed confidentiality within the congregation that they think doesnt apply when its "worldly people? Or is it because they want this worldly person to perceive them as "in the know" since the title "elder" has no meaning to a worldly person?
It seems ego driven and a "look at me" response regardless.
some that come to mind for me.. seven brides for seven brothers.
brigadoon.
carmen.
Well since you guys have mentioned all my best favs I guess I will add the songs from "Paint Your Wagon"
i hope all is well.
my last post over a month ago was going to be the last considering i wanted to get away from all things jw but this place is much harder to ignore than previously thought.
life has taken some very interesting turns since late last year.
Most beautiful thing I have read all day!
And congratulations X 2!!!!!!

Is the college she attends a community college? Some places they call it Junior college?
In my area, JW kids can go to the community college without repercussions but NOT university.
i remember once in berlin south germany there was a local needs part for the men only, and how they should use the toilet.
in all seriousness for ten minutes a retarded nigerian was going on about how men need to sit down when using the toilet.
no mention of anything else.. it transpired that some little kraut boy from an "interested" family would aim for the side of the toilet and leave a great big puddle for others to clean up.
Lets see.....
a talk on NOT wearing jeans skirts. (akin to wearing pants to the elders)
a talk on giving gas money to your driver out in field service.
a talk on NOT parking near the door of the K.H. (park far away)
a talk on not wearing red dresses on the platform. (yes, really).
and the all time hit - do NOT change out the toilet paper in the restrooms! Apparently one got dropped in a toilet!!!
So call an attendant and he will take care of "the matter".
i seem to remember many talks and articles in the past about repeating rumors.last night before going into the book study the conductor said something to the effect, "i heard a rumor and i don't know if it's true but the rumor is that in the future we will be using only;y videos at the door.".
anyone else heard this "rumor"?.
and whats up with repeating rumors from the platform?
Didnt they already have a "version" of this as Blondie mentioned above?
I swear, this religion just goes in a big circle going no where......
what if fred franz had never existed?.
those of you who weren’t around in the days when he was the oracle of jwdom or who at least aren’t familiar with the deeper publications he was responsible for probably won’t be able to comprehend the significance of the question.
i believe he influenced jwdom greatly, and the whole feel of jwdom would have been different without him.. during the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s (not sure about 50’s), he was considered to be almost superhuman by some (a lot?
Good thread idea Magnum. I too remember those long evenings after assemblies sitting by hotel swimming pools talking about deep things and new releases.
I remember struggling to keep up with all the publications that were in existence. Not only was Franz intelligent (a person can be wrong and intelligent) he was also very prolific!
He was at my brothers house once. Everyone was having their picture taken with him. He looked slightly bemused by the fuss actually.
Was a very small man physically and rather quiet, just observing mostly.
It has been interesting now that my mind is open to exploring "the rest of the story" all the glamorization that the Org has either promoted or encouraged about him.
Was it him that had an old Jewish scholar that had a permanent visitors pass at headquarters to visit Franz and they spent hours together concocting doctrine?
How funny if so, many of the things in print may actually have come from that Jewish scholar!
i still remember that feeling.
thank god it's gone for good.
i used to be part of us witnesses.
Great job of showing what it all feels like step by step. Thanks for writing that all out Anders!
