If you still believe in God, what are your thoughts on the Bible?
by ilikecheese indo you believe it's inerrant?
do you believe it's based on things that happened, but a lot of it may just be stories and it's not perfect because men wrote it?
do you think it's just a good guide?

Are we starting to treat DF people differently?
by Quarterback insome may remember the time when the private study edition of the wt wasn't to be made available to outsiders, and the df'd.. now, with the recent boe letter, sept 1, 2014, it specifically states that jw.org is making the km available even for df'd individuals.. do you sense a new trend developing?.

I think individual JWs are treating DFd people differently.
Here where I live the attitude towards them is much milder.
I see a softening of attitude about it on peoples parts. Theres simply too many young people DFd and living at home etc.
If that will mean a formal relaxing of things I dont know.

A question for Athiests.
by new hope and happiness ini am now an athiest myself, but i think being an athiest its a bit like having a faith.
some get very hooked on it and "preash" others (like me) simply get with with there lifes.
i am sure that some athiests like to have discussions about the non existence of " god" in a similar way that "thisists" do about the existence of god.

newhopeandhappiness,
I will say one thing for you, you sure have a divergent group of thoughts coming together on this thread!
Nice.
I saw two questions in your post.
Can I believe in an afterlife?
Why are we (humans) so quick to categorize each other?
Both good solid questions.
I am definitely a non believer in organized religion.
That is my only black and white for now.
I have a lot of questions about Gods existence.
I am not placing myself in a category as of yet, although I can see agnostic being a possibility.
I dont have a problem with Christians or Atheists unless they hit me to hard between the eyes.
I have had enough of that from the JWs.
I am looking for clear, kind, and reasonable.
I will keep looking.
In the meantime, why cant you contemplate other ways of life? That is my answer to your first question.
As for your second question, I think we label each other in an attempt to understand quickly where someone is coming from.
It can be very efficient (especially if life is short and there IS no after life LOL)
but it can also be shortchanging to people.
Labels should be used with caution.

Well consider me gobsmacked.
I can partake and that is ok but if I question things I am an "apostate"?

Your body is your PRIMARY TEACHER (a God-appointed channel is nowhere in the picture)
by Pinku inbalance is the natural state of your body and is maintained by moderation in your habits such as sleep, work, eating, entertainment and thinking.
(mathew7:12; 5:13-16; proverbs 25:16, 27; 1 cor 6:12; 8:9; philippians 4:5) your body sends signs of distress when you cross the limit.. this is true even in subtler areas too.
contrary to the popular notion that happiness or peace come from accumulating things, body teaches it comes from renunciation.

Well you 100% did misjudge me.
I have never even heard of that movement.
I admire anyone who apologizes - people rarely do that.
Thank you.
Glad we could move past that Cofty. I greatly admire reading your thoughts and want to continue.

My Story: from JW Elder to Born Again Christian to Agnostic
by passwordprotected ini first posted here on 3rd june 2008. at the time i was an elder, appointed the previous october, i was 36 and i was a born-in.
at the time i'd become disillusioned with the society due to the governing body's letter explaining why the book study in private homes was being abolished.
april 2008 saw me start questioning this decision, privately of course, and this eventually led me to this site, to jwfacts and to many youtube videos, all of which began to errode my faith in the leaders of the organisation.. in july 2008, having discussed my doubts with my wife, i attended the district convention, deciding to give the society one last chance to convince me it was the truth.

Password!
Your post was just what I needed today.
You write with such eloquence about all the steps and processes one goes through on the journey to themselves.
I am just beginning that journey and am finding that it is hard to sift out the bitter and find the inspirational.
You give me hope that I can do it.
Thank you, thank you.

Cofty,
you have over stepped.
I have never posted knowingly with Pinku.
I dont know him/her
I posted what I thought.
I have a posting rule. Attack the post but never the poster.
I will follow my own rule now and just be quiet where you are concerned.
Assuming, judgemental statements are exactly why I left the JWs.

Please help....in a dilemma..
by crazyhorse inplease help with this: when i was in college, there was a lot of talk about university and how all who pursue that are wasting their time and all that.
even before going to uni, there was a lot of pressurr on me concerning my decision.
during that time, two elders sat with me for appointment as ms and asked me if i have freedom of speech in the org since i'm going to uni and i said no.

jw facs made a good point...
I would add:
no matter how many hours you actually get in service ONLY turn in 4 or so.
Your number of hours turned in is "supposedly" confidential so that should slow down the amount of "talk" the elders are able to do about why exactly they cant appoint you.
I am not saying to limit your service if that might cause some worry for your family...Im just saying dont report it.

I read the original post much differently than some of you I guess?
I thought what Pinku was trying to impart was that we dont need an organized religion to guide us.
That we have an inate wisdom to tell us.
To eat well. To sleep enough. To release all the drama.
I thought the tie in with scriptures was just to show that the best stuff in the Bible is STILL just backing up what common sense says.
That is what I got when I read the OP.
It reminds me of that saying: I guess common sense is not that common anymore!
