  I think I was off the day they taught ...

  does anyone else have those things that everyone else seems to know ... except you?

  it's like you were off the day it was taught in school and you don't know that you don't know about it.

  but everyone else does.. i have a couple .... first, days of the month.

  I have been known to confuse my right and left....sad, no?

  Well this one is even sadder - I have pushed the button on the elevator for the floor I want and THEN noticed it is a "going down" elevator, thereby insuring myself an even longer wait.

  my parents are visiting for not-thanksgiving.

  dad started bringing up spiritual stuff and i almost screwed up my fade.. it's so hard to have a genuine discussion about the issues in the organization when you have become an atheist.

  it feels icky and disgusting to have to pretend and nod your head at such platitudes as "you just need to have faith"..."trust in jehovah"..."jehovah will correct it"..."remember ray franz?

  I feel for you Cappy. I have a similar situation and I have to watch myself.

  We are doing this out of love and respect for our family - NOT out of respect for the Org. Right?

  (I must tell myself that many times each day)

  The Catholic church has stopped opposing evolution. Although they don't publicize their stance it is in the foreword of a Catholic Bible. It basically says that Genesis is an allegory and God created man through evolution.

  and 7

  1 and 2 are already happening in some areas but quietly.

  3 is being forced on them - they will have no choice.

  If that "no" is directed at my statement futano, I can agree with you that appeals are granted.

  They are not frequent.

  As you stated in a post upthread, most of the ones you yourself saw granted had to do with elders in the original committee being as you said and I quote:

  More than 50% of the decisions of the original committees were totally wrong.

  third world countries education is low,

  those serving were end 20thies.

  
  

  Where you and I disagree is in your statement above that it is the opinion or the request of the individual that generates anything.

  Those two factors (the persons opinion or request) have zero to do with an appeal being granted,

  Even if you lose the appeal I think there is another chance to appeal

  Hoser is right. They will not inform you of this second appeal right. You have to request it in writing.

  
  

  As for the initial appeal..... If I understand it right, the instructions to the appeal committee are to ONLY overturn the original committees decision to disfellowship if proper procedure was not followed.

  
  

  That extremely limits the grounds for an appeal and makes it less likely that an original decision will be overturned.

  Dubstepped, I dont know how I didnt see your story until now but Im so glad I got to read it.

  Following you through your younger years up to now was a powerful and very moving experience.

  I hope this thread stays near the top so new people coming to this forum can read it and find comfort and hope in your words like I did.

  In the interest of accuracy, wasnt Herd quoting someone when he made that statement?

  Not that he should be released in any way from his head shaking ignorance but some of you here may be in the same position I am in. I am in the position of having to make sure any statement I make to my "still in" family members is beyond them being able to take any issue with.

  If I make a powerful statement and attribute it wrongly, the answer back is "you didnt even have your facts straight" and they brush off everything on that "technicality".

  It is on that basis that I am taking this statement by Herd slowly. If this is not a quote on his part - my apologies.
