Thanks. I got a message from someone claiming to be from the WT society asking me to remove it.
Not surprised. They dont want the truth about their "truth" getting out!
i decided to spend my sunday morning creating a youtube video highlighting 7 things most jw's dont know they're supposed to believe.
most of these i learned only after my exit of the cult.
here's hoping a few jw's will stumble upon it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er44oc0p4ny&feature=youtu.be.

i discovered your website this morning as i was trying to find some information about 'marking'.
you see a very close friend of mine was 'marked' earlier this week and as i know the ins and outs of the situation (as we are close friends) i disregarded the talk immediately as i know my friend is obviously having issues but is no way a 'danger' to anybody else's spiritual health.
basically they are dating a non-believer- hence the talk.
Hi Danni and welcome!
I personally think "marking" is very antiquated and on its way out.
It seems to be falling out of vogue where I am. It just simply isnt done anymore. Perhaps the fact that some regions no longer even make use of that procedure is a good sign. At least I hope so!
i met up with many friends of 50-60 years over the last week.
these were friends from the neighborhood, school, and kh.
i renewed some really special attachments.
CoCo, there "seams" to be some confusion on this here thread!
Ok....funny enough, now seriously...
They make a fabric tape that you can use to tape the seam and heat it with an iron. After you do that you can still stitch over it if you want for double the strength.
I think it is called stitch witch or something?
hi all, just recently i was thinking about the period of my study and eventual baptism as jw.
it took many years, i guess in all about 10 years.
various times i stopped the study but after a while it started again.
You cant even take an old red bible to the meeting without being viewed suspiciously.
Its a gray one or a tablet.
No latitude there.
the big day is two days away when she will say "i do".
i knew this day would come someday but as a mom you just want to hold on even though i did everything to train her to be very independent.
she has been making most of her own decisions since middle school.. she moved away 5 years ago but still was totally mine till 2 years ago when mr. wonderful appeared in her life.
What a good mom!
Enjoy the beauty of the moment and many good wishes to your lovely daughter on her big day!
it's not as if the sheep was trying to seduce the shepherd, the poor creature was violated.
we have come a long way from those days, thank goodness.
so why slay the sheep or beast?????
This thread is cracking me up!
so anyhoo.....

millie: share your research, it may come in handy one day. I love asking questions like this with my JW family, anything to make them think. The flood, they refuse to talk about that.
Yes not to spoil the mood but I was thinking that animals in such an agrarian community had significant worth and the death of one would be a financial impact people would not want to incur.
Apparently I am the only person who thought that because I didnt find that reason anywhere.
What I did find had more to do with the heinous crime that bestiality fell in to the heading of in that time period......
to encapsulate it, the reason the animal was to be slain was
a) so no one could see that animal and refer to it in reference to the act of beastiality.
b) to underscore causation in the death of a man.
several Jewish references plus this one below that covers the same ground.

sorry to be such a fuddy duddy!
carry on!

Yes the thread is funny!
~~`
I am researching the question now on my own because I really like it. It is intriguing.
so my girlfriends, friend has invited me to her little boy's christening.
6 months ago if you'd asked me this i'd have recoiled in horror.
in a catholic church?!!!
Happy for you PE!
You are exploring other cultures and ways of marking important life events and you are open minded with a sense of humor and adventure.
Really great to read this thread and I hope you will come back and post your impressions. I would love to hear them.

I guess it's not a serious question.. LOL
I guess not!
I thought it was a good one though.
Dont some places still allow for the cutting off of a hand for theft?
All through history conquering people had rules of war about what could be kept as spoil and what could not.
I am not attempting to defend JWs or the Bible either for that matter
I was looking for a more anthropological approach as to an answer I guess. .
If this was not an academic question then let the fun continue!
i always found it interesting that one could appeal a disfellowshipping....if jehovah doesn't make mistakes, then there wouldnt be a need to "appeal" anything to begin with right?.
I have heard that an appeal committees purpose is to make sure all the procedures were followed according to the Orgs guidelines.
It is not a second opinion or a re-trial.
So if something was handled wrong procedurally, there can be a reversal.
Im sure there are many elders/former elders here who can tell us the real deal on this?
