  Is there anything good JWs taught you still benefit from?

  some years ago, i attended a jw wedding.

  marriage speaker said something which changed my life for the better, and it helps me even now.

  Though most of the JW teaching seemed unsound and irrational, points in this marriage talk were amazing which helps me even now in all avenues of my life. [I don’t know all JW marriage speakers use the illustration and explanation because this was the only one I attended]

  Looks like you were able to internalize some good skills on honing ones perception in dealing with others.

  I liked the posters comment that perhaps a good degree of this was a measure of the man giving the talk and not any credit to JWs. That sounds likely.

  I get what you are saying about the TV illustration too. It isnt at all about a "TV" it is about resolving the problem in a way that leaves both partners happy and the relationship intact.

  My best thing I learned was the scripture (Proverbs maybe?) that there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors.

  That has helped me many times to be more of a team player.

  i have been sneakily looking at this forum, almost every day, ever since it began!

  it has taken me till now to actually register and contribute.

  (actually i did register with a different name in the beginning but never commented).. i am a pimo elder with a fairly long history of senior "positions" in the organization.

  Welcome, welcome, welcome!

  I feel like Flipper and wish you were my brother (a currently serving elder who is disdainful of me and my fading).

  I am pretty sure you are NOT him but you do give me a lot of hope with your posts about your situation. If you can do this - so can he....one day!

  You are headed in a good direction now. Even as things crumble and fall away, the relief and building of a real life far out weighs any losses.

  At least that is what I am finding to be true.

  "Please pray for me."

  greetings, friends:.

  today, i saw an old friend in town, and, after we got caught up and finally said our goodbyes, she asked me to pray for her.

  family problems were eating her up.. how have you responded if and when you were asked this?

  I tell them I will.

  I am not sure if there is a God or not so I guess that puts me in the agnostic category if there is a need to define by "category".

  The thing is, I dont know anything about how all of that works (and neither does anyone else).

  If the mere act of hearing their request and answering in the affirmative gives them comfort or is soothing? I will do it.

  For me it appears rather like telling a bed time story to a small child who cant sleep. Its soothing and comforting whether its true or not.

  I can at least provide that.

  My thinking is that if someone asks me to pray for them it is either perfunctory (like have a nice day - doesnt really need an answer) or they are really afraid/desperate and I can meet their current need without invoking my personal views.

  Will Watchtower target the inactive?

  they have just become inactive.

  do you all think wt will begin a witch hunt (df'ing) for these inactive ones?

  I dont think they will pursue "inactive" ones with their pseudo legal DF tactics.

  Inactive ones have become un- indoctrinated and would be more likely to sue or threaten legal involvement if they were inconvenienced by little men in suits at their door.

  The only way I think they would mess with a non involved fader would be if they sense the fader is attempting to lure away an active member. Im sure that would fit their broad based potpourri definition of "apostasy" somehow.

  looking at all the narcissistic bull shit the watchtower corporation has been spewing out for the world to see about suffering of its members to as nothing worth being very concerned about and as jehovah magnificent be vindicated is much more important.

  have they really gone off their rocker enough for a very sizable portion of membership to see their insanity and jump ship?.

  i think definitely they are losing all respect from their internet savy members as their madness becomes obvious.

  I think religion in general is dying out as societies evolve.

  It only stands to reason that the harder a religion is to live with, the quicker they will die out.

  Perhaps in their reptilian brain the Org realizes this and that is why we see the more social aspects occurring from within.

  I dont know even one young JW that views JWism any different than a young Catholic views Catholicism.

  Yes, Catholicism. You know, the dreaded arch nemesis of the Org that they never even mention any more?

  Your View Of Death How Much Does It Effect The Way You Look At The World Around You?

  lets face it the watchtower's indoctrinations effect the way we look at the world we see governments as tool of the devil.

  we look at our relatives different, we will not speak to our own children if disfellowshipped.. a better world is what christians promise believers, or hell for those condemned by the deity.

  kiss the ass of the deity and go to a better world, and don't forget to put something in the collection plate on sunday.. to face death with out the crutch of a future better world for beleivers, is better, as you can cherish the life you are living and be more in the present while facing what ever life throws at you.

  As a JW I spent way too much time sacrificing the "now" for the "later" so called paradise reward. It was a terrible way to try to live and made being in the moment nearly impossible.

  I mean really, Is there some after life? No guarantees. What was I thinking?

  Now that I see life as the state between birth and death I have a richer appreciation for it.

  I savor moments as the bright sparkling little gifts they are.

  So we started at a new hall

  when i say we, i just mean my wife.

  we moved to a community of maybe 20000. this hall claims to have 160 publishers but i have my doubts.. the most shocking part is there isn't a single child in the hall.

  we just moved from a hall with at least 12 kids under 10. watching the people shuffle out this morning made me think it was some dying denominational church.

  Plus, the brother should be a ministerial servant too.
