Derren Brown - Messiah (UK)
by rick1199 inif you live in the uk you may recently have seen derren brown programme seance, where he showed the tricked used to convince people they where comunicating with the dead.
this friday he is doing another show called messiah where he show how people use mind control in religion.
hopefully it will be general enough not to be termed apostate, while still triggering the warning signs in a number of witnesses.

it involved getting a hotel for the next district convention and then it skipped ahead to when i was attending.

This guys's shows are just fantastic!!!!
I found some copies on the internet, and I was actually scared to watch them, as if the demons would come into the house. I was feeling particularly discouraged and dubious of JW teachings by then, with lots of doubts, been missing meetings - well, these kind of killed off any last clinging feelings that the Watchtower might be right. It was like a bright, clean feeling came over me, as I felt like my mind had been broadened so much.

The Truman Show, a movie that JW's must hate.
by moshe inthe truman show is on tbs tonight and i know, it's been mentioned before here, but it has to be a movie that gives jw's the creeps.
jw's know something is not right in the wt fantasy land, but until they have that epiphany, that the wt has lied to them, the jw is just left with a niggly feeling of "something is just not right" in the back of their mind.
now when jim carrey- truman burbank- figures it out and becomes self aware of the lie, everyone around him tries to redirect his focus away from his epiphany , then convince him he is the only one who see's a problem.

sd-7, you are absolutely right!! JWs just see it as a story. It takes something to really shake one, to make one stop going through the motions and look at things differently. The problem is the trauma of that can break the person.

i am not religious but open minded.
when i first saw the truman show, i was struck by it's deeper under tones and the philosophical questions it raises.

The first time I watched this film, I indentified strongly with Truman, and felt I was living in a bubble - but it took a little while before I saw exactly why the film made me so uncomfortable. I guess many people get uncomfortable and run away from the facts; it's just too overwhelming. A lot of us comment on stress-related illness; well, I think avoiding the facts can be a way to avoid a breakdown.
