What's happened to the preaching work?

something happened the other night that got me thinking.

i met a christian in one of the local malls and he did the usual preaching about jesus routine, trying to convince me that i am a sinner and how i need jesus and all that jazz.

he wasn't a jw, but rather he was from one of the local revivalist churches.. now what i'm thinking is that i've been out of the org for almost three years now.

My parents still attend meetings but haven't gone out door-to-door in a very long time. I'm sure they are turning in some time to keep off the inactive list, they are probably counting the time they spend trying to talk their kids into getting back in the org.

I also haven't seen witnesses out door-to-door on my street.They would never stop here now, but I would definitely see them at my neighbors.

What's happened to the preaching work? Many are getting tired, they thought the new system would be here by now.

the second school, and why it sucked monkey nostrils to be a sister back there giving a talk.. you would think, no sweat, smaller crowd, less pressure.

And you're definitely right about the second school, it felt like everyone could read your notes from where they were sitting, or sometimes standing. Sometimes it would be real crowded because some new person or little kid was giving their first talk.

What about when you were householder for those sisters (usually pioneers) who wanted to make the setting seem more natural, so decided to have you both stand the entire talk like you were at the door? Once, the sister even went so far as to knock on the microphone and I had to pretend to open a door. I so hated having to stand the whole talk and you had to turn your body in such an awkward way so that you partially faced the audience, while still trying to look at the other sister and juggle your notes and read from the Bible when she handed it to you.

I still have nightmares once in a while (even tho I've been out for two years) that I'm at the KH and I forgot that I had a talk until the brother announces that the next talk will be given by me and asks for my counsel slip. I don't know why I still dream about that.

Lee, you have a heart of gold and I'm so sorry you have to deal with this and the pain of your childhood.

Get plenty of rest, make sure you are eating healthy and start taking beta carotene, if you're not already (if your doctor approves). I wish the best for you----sending healthy, caring vibes your way.

our two eldest sons and their wives went to las vegas for the week today.

i have the 2 year old son of one son and the 14 year old daughter of the other son, for the week (until friday).

the girl (carlie) is an absolute dream, so helpful and has a great personality, but she goes to school everyday.

Hi Mulan, my sister came over yesterday with her two boys. Wow, those two! The oldest is almost four and the youngest is going on two. When they get tired look out - Constant crying and screaming. Then the youngest was spitting his juice just for the fun of it - boys do love anything they can make a mess with. (My daughters never liked to get dirty but my son was a different story.) There was a large puddle in our neighbors yard and we couldn't keep my nephews away from it.

I agree, I've never seen a kid who doesn't love Oodles of Noodles (Ramen noodles), instead of making them into soup, drain the liquid off before you add the seasoning packet.

JW history (big green book)

i have been coming here for many months now; absorbing all the wonderful info given and reading ray franz's books, but i have never posted before.

can anyone tell me the specific name and about a book that came out a few years ago, i guess at a convention about the jw's history?

i think it starts out as "jehovah's witnesses and something, something" its a big green book...thats all the info i have on it.

That book is supposed to be an accurate account of the history of JWs. But some of their history was not included, you know, the stuff they don't want their followers to know about.

BTW, May I be the first to say - Welcome to the forum! And best wishes to you in helping your family out of the org.

I believe the book you're referring to is called "Jehovah's Witnesses-Proclaimer's of God's Kingdom". Referred to as the Proclaimer's book by JWs.

my husband's family attends that hall.

Thanks for the replies. I still can't believe the lengths the organization will go to. Its mind-boggling. Information control at its best. It is so sickening that the elder that is giving my husband's parents the roughest time about associating with him, grew up with my husband as best friends, they were like brothers. This all seems like a really strange nightmare.

Elders from the hall we attended for three years before we left the org, called the elders at our old hall (in another state!) to tell them that my husband had been DA'd. My husband's family attends that hall. Now those elders are giving his family a hard time about their association with us.

Don't know if they actually announced it to the congregation, I'll have to find out.

Talk about control, is this what's normally done? I didn't know they would go that far...calling the hall we used to attend......His family already knew he was going to be DA'd though.
