I think if I was in your shoes (or your parents), I'd do like "myself" suggested and save every package/letter that was returned. That way if your niece does come to find you and your parents someday, you can show her that you tried to keep in contact and she can open the packages and see that you never stopped trying and never stopped loving her.

I am very sorry for the loss of your friend. I too know what it is like to grieve the loss of close ones. I express my deepest sympathy to all those suffering from the result of this horrible tragedy.

I do take responsibility in posting the story, but am not sorry for posting it. At the same time, I am sorry it brought you distress. I think it's absurd to be angry at someone for just copying and pasting an article from a news station. I cannot and will not take responsibility for the reporter writing something that was not true. I think your anger might be more productive if you direct it at the source. This is a public and open discussion forum. News articles are posted here on a regular basis.

I did not offer any personal opinions and did not deserve your attack. Thank you for your apology though. It will be kindly accepted if you change the heading of this thread to read "KATU - you are full of crap".

Family of six found dead; police believe father killed family, then self

MCMINNVILLE - A family of six was found shot to death in their home in an apparent murder-suicide, investigators said Friday.

Robert Bryant is believed to have shot his wife and four children before killing himself, said Yamhill County District Attorney Bradley C. Berry.

"Evidence ... indicates that Mr. Robert Bryant killed his wife and children and then took his own life," Berry said.

Dead are the 37-year-old father, his 37-year-old wife, Janet Ellen Bryant, as well as 15-year-old Clayton, 12-year-old Ethan, 10-year-old Ashley and 9-year-old Alissa Bryant.

In a phone interview, Jeanna Wright told katu.com that her daughter Jaden was friends with Ashley Bryant at Memorial Elementary School. Mrs. Wright said her daughter had not seen Ashley in Mrs. Mecker's class for two weeks and was concerned.

Ashley's younger sister Alissa was a second grade student at Memorial Elementary.

Ethan was a sixth grader at Patton Middle School, and Clayton, the oldest, attended McMinnville High School.

Robert Bryant was a self-employed landscaping contractor. He and his family moved to the McMinnville area last summer.

A study of California bankruptcy records indicates that the family moved to McMinnville from Shingle Springs California, where the father had a landscaping business called Bryant's Landscape Maintenance.

A former neighbor of the family who knew the Bryants when they lived in California told KATU News that the Bryants and their relatives were Jehovah's witnesses.

According to the former neighbor, Robert Bryant got into an argument with a church leader over the Bible while he and his family were still living in California.

The family was reportedly shunned by both other Jehovah's witnesses as well as their own relatives following the incident.

The Bryants came to Oregon to make a fresh start, the neighbor told KATU.

Two Yamhill County sheriff's deputies were in the vicinity of the Bryants' McMinville home Thursday night when neighbors approached them to express concern about the family.

Deputies spotted what appeared to be a body inside the home, which is 3½ miles southwest of McMinnville,a ccording to the district attorney's office.

They found five more bodies inside the home.

Investigators said they did not yet know the motive behind the shootings.

Not surprisingly, this apparent murder-suicide has saddened many who knew the Bryant children.

"Ethan Bryant was a very nice young man, he had many friends. We are very saddened by this tragedy," Assistant Principal of Patton Middle School, Mark Hyder told KATU News.

"Ethan was new to our district this year...he was a very popular sixth-grader," said Hyder."

Counselors are at the school today working with students and staff to come to terms with today's tragedy.

"We're just trying to get through this day supporting students and their families," Hyder said.

i've always felt that the adult jws got off pretty easily compared to jw kids.. for instance: .

my dad went to work, and didn't bother his co-workers with jw stuff.

Excellent thread! I totally agree with you about how much more difficult it is for JW kids compared to JW adults. No one understands unless you experienced it yourself! So many hearbreaking stories!!

I remember once I got asked to go skiing with someone I used to chit-chat with in high school and I had to tell her no, knowing my parents wouldn't let me. I hated telling people no when they invited me along. It used to make me feel so good that they wanted to hang out with me and it was so sad having to turn them down because being friends with 'worldly' people was forbidden.

I remember trying to miss as much school as I could during the prom time so no guys would ask me. I also avoided eye contact with guys during that time. In fact, I avoided guys as much as I could in high school for fear of being asked out. How sad is that?!

Tera - don't worry about your son missing a few holidays - you will be able to make it up to him! You know how you hear parents tell their kids stuff like, "when I was your age, I had to walk 5 miles to school in 3 ft of snow!"? You will have lots of these to tell your son when he gets older! haha!

I feel like I missed out a lot on my childhood, but I am so grateful that my kids won't be raised that way. I will enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces when they get to experience the things I missed out on!!

while attending the district convention at the cow palace in san francisco, the jw man who had brought me into the religion, told me that ray franz had resigned from the governing body, and several were disfellowshipped from bethel in a major cleaning out of apostates.

i was shocked, and asked why ray franz would resign.

Exactly why I find it so ironic that the JWs call their religion "the truth". JWs aren't even allowed to look at the other side of the story. They'll be disfellowshipped if they read literature that differs from their 'story'.

i took the whole thing very seriously.

there seems to be such a fun element here - i can't imagine everyone being those dull folk all decked out in their wt uniform with accompanying plastic expressions.. marilyn

<------- Miss Goody Two Shoes! Miss Priss! Perfectionist JW kid to a 'T'! My best friend (who was a little bit on the wild side) and I used to actually get into arguments about it. It used to drive me nuts when she'd laugh at me for being so 'squeaky clean'. I was the 'self-righteous priss' until one week before high school graduation. That week I was corrupted by my younger sister who practically force fed me some alcohol for my first time. I was only a JW adult for about a year. (thank goodness!)

can someone explain? cows blood

as far as i knew the borg had taken verses from the bible to do with .

animal blood and applied it to modern day to cover transfusions,which werent available back in bible times anyways, in the meantime it was always stressed on us to eat bled meat, not kosher just bled, but bled nonetheless,.

how they can justify the turn around when it comes to allowing transfusions from cows blood, when the scriptures they use actually apply to abstaining from animal blood in the first place.

This stuff literally makes my stomach sick. You'd think with their paranoia that they'd print stuff up discouraging spanking, especially with the advanced technology of little mini spy cams that could easily be placed in Kingdom Hall bathrooms. Could you imagine the press getting ahold of a tape of some woman spanking her infant?
