I'm so glad to hear you're happy. Unfortunately many who are disfellowshipped don't find happiness. The difference between you and them is you know what the WBT$ is. So many arre disfellowshipped and still believe it is the truth, many who know it's BS are left with no support system so they go back due to the pain of shunning or worse commit suicide. It's good your dad has chosen you over them and you have your boyfriend (Tell him I say hi). I like you am looking to study psychology to use my experience to benefit others. May God's Grace continue to be with you.

i recall when i was in, i used to wonder how those disfellowshipped could live with themselves and thought that they must be the saddest and most depressed people on this earth.. how wrong i was.
now that im one of this disfellowshipped ones my life has improved dramaticaly and im happier than i ever was.

they told me that my mother in law said i didn't want to have anything to do with the witnesses anymore.
i said yes i did say that and then i laid it all out for them why i felt that jehovah god wasn't with them.

Unless you take back what you said about the org they will disfellowship you. They have their two to three witnesses (your mother in law, the 2 elders) to act on you. Here's something you could do.
See if you can buy some time tell the elders you need time to reflect on everything. Write a letter explaining why you no longer want to be a JW & distribute it in person, by email, and mail to as many as you can. Don't respond any further to the elders. Whatever they do to you is meaningless you already disfellowshipped them a long time ago.
Thinking about they way they approached you is that what a shepherding call is supposed to be. They weren't there at all for your benefit. It makes me think of this song

Is it known what category the Watch Tower Society falls under? While searching the link I noticed there are different fees for different levels of investors. They could be under Institutinal Investor which means they don't have to pay anything to attend. This is what they would probably claim anyway and use the excuse they are trying to help the generous donations they are given go further. To a JW zombie there is no wrong this organization can do they eat up every BS excuse given them.

For those of you who love the bible, do you think its been a little overcomplicated?
by TimothyT inthis weekend i read the gospel according to matthew and john.. it felt lovely as i was simply learning about jesus and his teachings, which are incredibly easy to understand and which amount to what i feel is a fabulous guide to life.. but what about the old testament... is it just history?
is it important?
should a christian spend too much time reading it?

First off read other translations of the Bible see where the NWT is off. I like doing parallel readings.
So far these are my conclusions ( I am not claiming they are right & am open to discussion)
Old Testament is not to be disregarded good lessons in there & historical background.For instance Pro 4:18 " But the path of the righteous is like the bright morning light , growing brighter and brighteruntil full day ." This is a Christians personal journey in truth not an organizations views of prophecy.
New Testament trumps the Old. The law was abolished.
When one lives by Jesus words works as mentioned by James comes naturally. Pharisees focused on the external, the law & traditions which is legalism and works. Jesus taught that by Grace of God, faith in him, imitating him one will do what is right or learn what is right.
Paul did good in explaining how Grace replaced the law, yet he allowed his background as a Pharisee to influence him. Perhaps Jesus warning of the leaven of Pharisees should apply. Eg his setting of some rules & his view of homosexuality ;)
John found LSD on Patmos (just kidding or am I) I haven't gotten to Revelation yet.Except the first 3 capters to me it reveals the church (Christianity not one denomination) had problems much like today. They lost sight of Christ needed reminders.
Each congregation has it's own personality & problems. They were not to be identical they took background & locality into consideration.
In regards to prophecies it's like supplementary material not necessary to understand for salvation. Or you can compare them to puzzles. Fun not necessary.
When something isn't clear look to Jesus. Above all else believe in God's Grace, have faith in Christ & his dying for our sins which is related to grace, & do all things with love & show love to all.

it wasn't until i read with disbelief no room for george's pitiful statement about being proud to be a jw did i start to think of a simple of way of discrediting the jws... it needed a simple scriptural phrase that causes them to shoot their own foot!.
so - how many different ways can you think of where jws have "gone beyond the things written"?.
