Watchtower & the Illuminati
by skeeter1 ini first heard of the illuminati in, about 1979. a tape of a man named john todd was given to my family.
john todd said he was a defector of this secret society (notice the word, "society").
he did not mention the jehovah's witnesses.

I've lurked a long time: JW's produce some of the most paranoid humans
by Unlearn ini'll keep this brief for now.. long time lurker (4 years or so).. born-in, elder, used on district level (last talk i gave before i left was the baptisimal talk), and lots of hard time put in...before i finally made the move to split.
it's a long stoy, much like many of yours...but with it's own little interesting twists.
more details in the future, perhaps.. as i said, ive lurked here for a while.. its funny: for a long time i'd only come on late at night.

Did any of you need counselling or psychotherapy as a JW?
by TimothyT ini have just started my new course to be a qualified counsellor.
naturaly i am studying this because of my own background and now i want to help others who have had similar strains on their lives.. i know the pressure that the jw organisation puts on its members, so i was wondering, if you dont mind saying so of course, did any of you attend counselling sessions due to the pressures and problems that the jw life brought along?.
i can imagine that the majority of my old congregation (myself, my dad and my brother included) would need some form of counselling or medication in order to remain sane.

I went to therapy at bethel they have psychologists on staff. With him being a br. I was ok. The next time I tried therapy I was too worried that I would bring reproach on Jehovah & the organization if I spoke about all the things that caused me stress & anxiety. So I ended up quitting.
Now I want to go back to school & study psychology.

Discreetslave - As a JW I did my best to do all that was asked of me and my awakening coincided with me realizing the heavenly hope is not to be exclusive for those who believe in Christianity.

Is a child up for adoption supposed to promise love & respect to the potential father?

12:1, the new english bible.. before someone who is alienated from god can become a member of gods family of approved servants, he first needs to make a solemn promise to jehovah.
to understand why, imagine a respectable father who shows kind interest in an orphaned youth and wishes to adopt him as a member of his own family.

This is reasonable only in the minds of people who live in bubble in Brooklyn separated from normal society

(1 Timothy 4:1-3) 4 However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, 2 by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron; 3 forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be partaken of with thanksgiving by those who have faith and accurately know the truth. . .
Before I even woke up as a JW I remember readiing this and asking my husband if the WT was guilty of breaking this command. Even though they don't forbid it they heavily encourage youths to remain single & childless. To me it seemed like a modified version of Catholic celibacy.

Something else about the text "God's family of approved servants" does this really sound appealing?

Offer your very selves to him: a living sacrifice, dedicated and fit for his acceptance.—Rom. 12:1, “The New English Bible.”
Before someone who is alienated from God can become a member of God’s family of approved servants, he first needs to make a solemn promise to Jehovah. To understand why, imagine a respectable father who shows kind interest in an orphaned youth and wishes to adopt him as a member of his own family. The father is known to be a good man. Still, before accepting the youth as his son, the man wants the boy to make a promise. So the man says, “Before I accept you as a son, I need to know that you will love and respect me as your father.” Only if the youth is willing to make a solemn promise will the man admit him into his family. Is that not reasonable? Similarly, Jehovah accepts into his family only those who are willing to make a vow of dedication to him. w10 1/15 1:13Does this seem off base to anyone else? I find this to be another example of the conditional love, JW's really don't get what love is.
