Well, if there is one thing good that comes out of being a JW it is not smoking. My mother died of lung cancer, so did my father, and my wife's mother. So, no thank you. Dirty habit in my opinion and I could never be with a woman that did smoke...just me mind you.

What are "Super Friends" in JW speak?
by InterestedOne ini noticed the term "super friends" in another thread about jw & christian lingo.
can someone explain what it might mean?.
my jw acquaintance refers to her fellow jw's as her "best friends" presumably to differentiate jw's from her non-jw acquaintances.

I think whoever wrote this was drinking or tripping! Sorry this is nonsense and drivel...at least in my sole, humble opinion. If there is any sort of afterlife, we are never going to know till we are dead. If there is any sort of resurrection...we are never going to know till we are dead. If niether exists, we will probably never know and will just stay dead with our atoms returned to the universe. Have very many people close to you die, and you will come to this conclusion as well...a great deal of faith goes out the window when you stare down at a corpse. Sorry...don't mean to be negative but facts are facts everything else is PURE conjecture!

I listened to a JW service today and there was 1 minute about the person that died and 40 minutes of sermon. Since I had to attend another recently, it was no different than the last. My kids agreed...why can't they talk more about the PERSON...their life. It was a madlib introduction: Name a dead person. How old are they? What cong. did they go to? Where did they work? Surviving family? Ok, preach the hell out of them now! That was all it was. Very disappointing. I have been to dinners where the person is talk about, remembered, funny stories...this made everyone feel good and remember the person. This is how I want my family to remember me...with humor and good times....not promised of the future that we never know will come and don't really help when you have lost a loved one...ask someone that is honest and they will tell you that all the promises of paradise mean nothing when your mate has died!

The bookstudy was the only way to really get to know anyone. Service tends to splinter into groups of friends and family. Move into a congregation and it is hard to break into those cliques. The bookstudy helped...but man, with a family and kids it was a tremendous amount of effort to get there and back. The 3 meetings a week with kids and getting home from work was kicking our butts. We got TIRED! However, I am one that was very surprised after so many years of hearing how important this was to have it cancelled. I discussed this recently with my sister who is inactive but still defends them. I asked her what they cancelled or shortened with the elimination of the BS. She emphatically implied "nothing"...but I said, they have the same two meetings now, the same school, service meeting, public talk, and watchtower study...to add the BS, something got shortened! Had to, to make room! She said she would check on that and get back to me...she never did. When the discussion of Franz was brought up to a long time Bethelite, he could only claim that him and his wife were arrogant in their opinion...however, that still didn't refute what he said in his book? I found that very interesting. They resorted to name calling...NO FACTS. I still think there are good people in JWs just as their are good people in many religions. I think virtually all of them are failed religions.

John was probably on drugs...who knows. LOL! But they always said that they wrote things as they understood them back then or what made sense to them...so, a few thousand years later, we are left to figure it out. So, if they were inspired, why not inspire them to write in a way that THEY would not understand but WE would seeing as WE are the ones that were suppose to live the fulfillment? Why could John just write it down plainer...such he would not understand but we would? I still believe in many things we were taught...but I do struggle with WHY does it have to be so hard? Why has it taken thousands of years, people, books, religions, and wasted words to figure out? Why did Russel start in one direction and then end up in another and now 100 years later, we keep going in different directions? Why so dam hard? Why not make it so plain that EVERYONE can understand it and appreciate it and not need a hundred years of publications, talks, books, assemblies, aid/insight books, latin, greek, hebrew to figure it out? The Bible says he reveals it to the simple and uneducated but they cannot figure this out either unless someone educated tries to explain it to them? Seems ass backwards doesn't it?
