It's kinda late, but I just got back from my exams. I scored a 79 on the aptitude test which is supposedly very high. So they're offering me a lot of different jobs and opportunities and extra pay. The downside is that they want me bad enough to try and ship me off a few months earlier than expected. I might be leaving in two to three weeks. Oh well I'm almost ready for boot camp. Thanks again to all for the encouragement.

Family About to Disown Me
by Moridin inwell i finally got the guts to tell my mother that i had enlisted in the army.
she didn't say a whole lot to me, but she did tell my sister she was calling the elders and that when i was df'd she would have nothing to do with me.
i can't say that it suprises me too much, but i was hoping for more of an adult reaction.

Thanks for all the responses it's really encouraging me. Today my mother informed me that she had told all of my relatives of the decision I had made to join the Army. Of course none of them were very happy. My aunt has made the decision to call the elders instead of my mother. My grandfather and mother are trying to get a hold of my recruitor to tell them I have a slight case of asthma to try and get me disqualified. I let her know how upset and disappointed I would be and how I want this more than anything else. I told her that if I really want this bad enough I will be able to overcome any obstacles I might have. I really hope she just leaves it alone. Well I'm off to take my intelligence test for the Army so I'll post again later.

I'm actually living on my own, well with my wife and child actually. I'm 24 and have a 4 year old daughter. My wife and child will be staying here until I get based. I appreciate all of the comments and hope I can do my best for our country.

Worldy friends vs. JW friends........
by LDH injust thinking out loud here.... when i was 19 and df'd for being pregnant (yes they knew i was repentant but told me i was to be used as an example), i ended up with no friends.. when i was 20, some four months later, and i was reinstated before my daughter was born, i thought for sure everything would be fine.
after all, hadn't i been reinstated?
wasn't i a valued member of the congregation?.

In my congregation I was the son of an elder and very much respected. Always auxilliary pioneering and giving special day talks and convention parts. I drifted away for awhile and then started coming back to the meetings and was treated like dirt. Nobody, not even my closest former "friends" would talk to me. I absolutely despised the conditional love. My new "worldly" friends are the best friends I could have ever recieved supporting me through everything.

Special talk?
by NikL ini was just fowarded this from a faithful dub.
it sounds fishy to me, like one of those e mail hoaxes that go around.
subject: special talk on september 30 2001. .

I wonder what kind of talks they had back when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Was the end so close then too? On another point did you notice that they said the King of the South has made the King of the North angry, except further down they say they don't know who the King of the North is.

Star Wars figures
by tdogg inlast year i retrieved my star wars collection from my dad's house.
i was a star wars freak since i was 6 years old and i first saw the film.
many of the origional old figures were missing and i wondered if they had just been lost over the years.

I too had an extensive collection. My dad said they were demonic. I hid all of mine...so I still have some of my original figures that are now worth a lot of money.

I just joined the Army and will be leaving for boot camp in January. I still have yet to tell my mother, who is still an active JW. I think I fear that more than boot camp. She worries about everything and most of all my "annialation at armageddon". She's going to freak. I didn't join because of recent events, but rather because I have a family of my own. I'm 24 and have a wife and 4 year old daughter, because of being a JW I couldn't go to college. Now I will never be able to get into college without a form of the armed services. The way I see it, the Army is a doorway for lots of opportunities. You mother's out there what should I do, tell her now or when I get a definite date for being shipped out?

Thanks for the support. I did speak to my wife and she is supportive of it. I really do want to join, but I'm not sure if they'll let me. I've got a really minor case of asthma. I only use an inhalor maybe once or twice a year, but I've heard I won't be accepted if I have it. I don't know I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning. Well I'll keep you updated. Thanks.

For the past few months I've been considering joining the army to help my family. Growing up as a JW I never went to college and don't have the money to go now. I'm 24 years old and have a wife of five years and a four year old daughter. We live basically in the slums of our town paying $750 a month for a small apartment. I know that going to the army I can go to college and can afford to help my family move into something nice. My father supports any decision that I make and says he will be proud of me being in the armed forces. He also said he would be scared for me because of recent world events. For me the only thing that really scares me is boot camp. My mom will probably disown me seeing how she is still a devout JW. But I'd like to know what others think. I go to the recruitors office tomorrow for a meeting. Look forward to the input.
