My JW ex-wife is wonderful. But I am convinced that the reason she is still in is because she does NOT read the JW magazines.
I'm always updated on all the WTS material. Not so ironic because I keep informed about what my kids are learning. So I read, AND STUDY all of it.
There are many like this who are not curious. It's intellectual laziness... and the WTS builds on that.
Most of those who actually love and do their "personal study" like me — end up like me — questioning and reasoning.
The Borg counts on those too lazy to fact check it's mine-quoting rubbish.
Of course, as an avid reader, I don't just focus on the society's stuff...

Is reading literature a no-no?
by Frazzled UBM inmy wife doesn't read literature.
i think it is such a shame because reading is one of the joys of life so i have been encouraging her but am meeting resistance.
is there a general prohibition on reading 'wordly' books?

Did Cedars manipulate Lee into having a thread closed?
by cedars ini will happily answer this question if there can be some guarantees this thread won't be deleted..

I probably have no business chiming in. If I do it's because I love this site that has helped me and so many others, and I have so much appreciation and love for my friend Cedars also.
We have so much to do in helping our fellow Witnesses that are questioning things. Both Simon and Cedars are (real) pioneers in this endeavor. It's okay to disagree. It's okay to have an ego and defend it. I'm an artist, hence, a total ham. I love applause and kudos from others. We all have a measure of pride. At least we don't demand worship like the Borg.
But let me be honest — this thread is simply a sad exchange. I know I'm not the only one to think so.
The value of letting go is precious. I'm still learning to do that. Not easy, I will admit.
I hope things settle down, as it seems to be the case. We have so much to do...Respectfully,
Vince.
PS: If I am overstepping, I apologize.

I also think that as long as one believes in Jehovah as a real entity, it is hard to not need the support of a group who believes in him also.
I'm not saying that atheism is the only way to cut loose — but that was the way for me. Once I distrusted the source of belief, the WTS became moot for me.
Only later did I see the need to help others get out, whether they believed or not. -

SBF is a very interesting character. I think I understand him. I also think going back may give him closure to his doubts about the WTS. Everyone has a path to walk.
I have a lot of respect for him following his heart. I think his mind will face some serious cognitive dissonance though... but this is needed for his journey.
At his age, I think I may have been in quite the same situation... I also went back with remorse after a first fade. It took me a while to be where I am now — and a harsh inner war.
I wish him the best. Give it a year and probably much less, and I believe he will be back here... home. -

About my Coming Out...
by braincleaned insince my coming out publicly, i have received a lot of kind words.. i wanted to thank all of you from the depth of my heart.. .
on the other hand, i need to make two things clear:.
i'm often encouraged to use my position to create cartoons or stories for nickelodeon, etc.... i do not have that kind of fire-power.

I looked up the defintion of an apostate and found a possible tactic in talking to a JW.
by 5go inassuming they converted to being a jw that is.
because simply converting reigions or changing one's beliefs makes one an apostate by defintion.. just though i would bring that up..

I would say to those catholics who converted to JWs — "Aren't you happy your whole catholic family doesn't shun you for apostasy?"

Favoritism in the Organization
by William Penwell innot sure if this topic has been covered before but i have a question to all of you, did you run across much favouritism while being a jdub?
i know as a working person favouritism is standard practice.
growing up as a jdub and being a naive teenager i always thought that they were above "worldly" people but i learned the hard way and from my own brother in law.

To be fair, favoritism is anywhere mammals roam. Humans especially. It is at the workplace, at the Kindom Hall, on these sites, even in family... ect..
There is no escaping it. True, the JWs should follow a higher standard — but they are simply as human as the others.
In my ±40 years as a JW, I haven't seen it more in the Org. Nor have I seen it less. -

Thanks you all! LOL! Yes — I do agree with VOLO that the character and mind of a person stays whether in or out of a group.
