I would comment more, but I'll just leave it at sending kudos to the good work of everyone in the community; JWs and non-JWs.
* Sad though, that it became an opportuniity to 'sell proselytism', while clearly, God was not with Whitney nor the killer.

Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?
by Chariklo inuntil recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.
it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.
do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

// Absolute labels corrupt absolutely//
I like that frankiespeakin. Very true.
As for QM, I have commented on this extensively, and I agree that it would be disingenuous to conclude that all is reducible to matter.
We still have a lot to discover.
So although I will not say there is no possible intellegent design, I will and can dismiss those gods that are based in old superstitions.
QM is changing the paradigms, and it seems Nature may have a method to the evolution of our Universe... exciting things to be learned! ;) -

// First of all, they illogically and conveniently forget that they, too, are "believers". They passionately believe that there is no god.//
THis is one of the reasons we atheists get a little frustrated.
It's a very ill statement to classify atheism as a belief. What it is is simply a lack of beleif.
Atheism is a belief as much as non-running is a sport.
Theist believe in God, atheists simply do not find the evidence of God.
The problem is that theists often find atheists offensive because of their lack of belief - and even more angry when we ask for evidence of god(s), as of course, there is none.
I can respect those who choose Faith as described in Heb. 11:1 -- but I don't have to respect that believing in the unprovable is a valid stance, especially as Paul explains it must be based in hope - or what could be described as hopeful (or wishful) thinking.
This is one of the reasons that atheists get frustrated and sometimes bite back. However, there is no good reason to ridicule anyone's stand. I was a believer myself for for over 4 decades. -

Is CoC out of print?
by AK - Jeff intoday i was looking for my copy of coc, and unfortunately it has come up missing in action.
perhaps i lent it to someone and forgot to whom.
whatever the reason, i began an online search for a copy to replace mine - and lo and behold, the copies i found available were priced from $35 or higher, and those places that advertised it at a lesser cost had it marked 'unavailable'.. i am not worried about replacing my copy - i have read it several times.

An atheist (non-theist) is a 'believer' the same way a non-runner is an athlete.
Having to defend this is really getting old, to be honest... sigh... -

hu man ism |'(h)yoom??niz?m| noun] an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems.

Again, ''humanisim has no better track to offer?"..... -

// Secularism is no different. Humanism has no better track record to offer; atheists are as bloodthirsty as the rest. ///
Excuse me? When was the last time you've heard of a war made in the name if atheism? And I'm not talking about Stalin or Hotler, as the former slaughtered in the name of communism, not atheism (which would be silly since atheism is just a lack of belief in a deity). The latter, Hitler, was so religious (Romain Catholic) in his fervor, that his soldiers had "God with us" on their belt buckle.
So again, atheist are as blood thirsty than the spanish inquisition or the other 'holy' wars?
By throwing everything in the same bag, you totally make your otherwise valid point moot. -

First murder of the Watchtower as Corporation??
by Jaime l de Aragon inmurder investigation alleged to involve watchtower according to world famous detectivenote: all persons or entities such as a corporation are to be considered innocent until or unless proved otherwise by a court of law.the detective who has acknowledged watchtower is obviously involved is scott bernstein who has been on america's most wanted tv series etc.
there's more about what he said on a taped phone conference farther below which also see.. .
from what has been said and repeated by many others, including david lynn carter of roanoke/wirth, virginia, when he was alive, david had been under u.s. federal protection after having been poisoned by two jehovah's witness elders and a relative although he also contended with having been born with a genetic condition.

This stinks of sensationalism, and the big colored fonts and loud accusations really sound like bad info. Then the clincher; reference to Rick Fearon's site.
Total bullshit. -

I feel for the family - but i really have a problem with the mom jumping for joy at the idea that this is an opportunity to proselytize!
The WTS has generated a generation of head-nodding Stepford people. Even their emotions are skewed. It's pretty shocking IMO.
Still, I feel for the family… twice; first for their loss, and second for their controlled minds.
