I suspect that many in positions of authority within the org feel the same as the DO who shared his views in the survey.
as for myself I am reluctant to share my ip address so I have not replied to the survey. I wonder if others feel like this.
i'm pleased to announce that despite some considerable teething troubles (of which many of you will be aware!
), the 2011 survey of jws is back on the road!
there is no need for any donations, so none will be asked for in any way, shape or form.

and i dont want to see the dictionary definition of the word, as the word is merely a label, and the definition is merely a description of the word.. .
i want to discuss the concept of truth, as there is alot hiding behind the mere label.. .
to start off with, is truth merely when we come to agreement, and stop questioning?
in reply to the question "what is truth?" and after reading your opening post, mankhedi, and the replies here, I think it may be very useful to think of not viewing truth as a noun and thus as an object to be grasped but as a verb - to truth. My lightbulb moment.
so when we endeavour to truth we can as individuals pick up a thread to hold onto through the labyrinth of life's unknowns, difficulties and complexities. The thead we pick up is personal to ourselves (our unfolding truth) and when we reach a deadend in the labyrinth we backtrack using the thread and then go in another direction.
edit: I think this may be true for believers, agnostics, pagans, atheists - in that a search for meaning is common to all.
about filmtruth be told is a feature length documentary that explores the lives of several individuals raised in the jehovahs witnesses religion.
the title of the film refers to the tendency by jehovahs witnesses to regard their beliefs exclusively as the truth.. the documentary is not an indictment of religion but rather a retrospective.
in a series of informal interviews, former jehovahs witnesses discuss life experiences within the organization including the impact the religion had on their childhood and family, schooling, adolescence, and approaches to dating and marriage.
thumbs up from me
I could relate to what Georgio Smith was saying in the teasers and would be interested to see if it is cathartic when it comes out in full. It also seems promising for sharing with non jw family.
if i could offer my perspective.
issues around free speech are some of the most difficult.
balancing the right of someone being able to say what they want against the "harm" that might cause.
a very balanced reply from the member of parliament.
thanks for all the work you have done on this issue. It is so much clearer to me now how our probs with the WBTS stand in relation to the law.
as i have sunken to a new low in condescending posts (according to botchtowersociety, who truthfully is an expert on all things bullshit), it did occur to me that discussions, debates, and mud slinging insult matches on this board often have a common root.. let me put out there that i am not an atheist, nor an agnostic.
frankly, i respect your right to believe that god is a trinity.
that he is jesus.
same here. I like how he tried to grapple with human failing - his answer was GRACE.
He was also open to the east.

Augustine was an amazing guy and he never shirked confronting reality. I have a lot of respect for him.

as some of you may know, i am working with trailerfitter and cantleave in helping amelia with her efforts to complain about the latest "apostates are mentally diseased" article.
she has an appointment with local police tomorrow afternoon, as she has lodged a complaint under the 'hate crimes' act.
it has been suggested that this issue may merit some media coverage, and with this in mind i have prepared a draft press release.
cedars, no law is being broken
apostates are treated very badly - no doubt about that and if you want to draw attn to the disfellowshipping policy then fair enough. but you can't say the WT is guilty of hate crime as defined by UK law.

cedars
just one point regarding this
Under current UK law, the wording of the article may even constitute a “hate crime” if it is subsequently used as license by individual members to target and intimidate any who speak out against the organisation’s leadership - a group of seven men based in New York who are known as the Governing Body.
once an individual has been labelled apostate Jehovahs witnesses are told not to sepak to them (apostates) anymore, so it isn't likely that individual members are going to target and intimidate those who speak out against the organisation. Be careful that you don't present something that can be easily refuted by Jehovahs witnesses.
edit: after reading amelia's thread it is clear that Jehovahs witnesses are not violating the hate crime law. the term mentally diseased was not directed at a minority group according to the law and there is no possibility of individuals being targeted, intimidated or stalked etc as jehovahs witnesses are told to not talk to apostates - the article in question emphasizes this latter point doesn't it?
....shouldn't christian religions of all persuasions be accountable as well?.
if this is insulting, it isn't meant to be.
former jw's all the time come here on this forum and others to hold the governing body accountable for teaching lies and holding on to a history, a tradition if you will, that embraces leaders like c t russell and j f rutherford, both of whom taught things that are almost entirely rejected by jw's today.
omg that static electricity shot of the pope had me ROTFL !!!
but yes catholic churches in my area too have lots going on - youth activities, jumble sales, weddings, baptisms, schemes for helping the disabled - checked them out yesterday.
