beautiful experience - it is similar to one i had when I had encephalitis as a child.

strangely enough, every now and then I have been aware of a guide but as I am an athiest I tend to speculate about it in a scientific way.

my simple explanation is that the WTS understands very well the culture they have created and rely on amongst congregation members - the finger pointing, the witch hunts, policing one another and suchlike - all it takes is for one person to say something to another about the possibitly of a member being a pedophile and the gossip would go into overdrive especially as most people (not just JWs) view all pedophiles as predators. I think the society wants to avoid this at all costs because not only would it lead to disorder it may also lead to legal action by the one being gossiped about.

what you say is true - most won't think about the implications of the new light. on the other hand I am hoping that my family will be amongst the few who do want to think for themselves. plus there is a lot of info available about the what the faithful and discreet parable means if they decide to check - I have also had generalised discussions about this illustration. I see that leolaia is also tackling this complicated subject at the moment

SAD news about OOMPA......

our friend, oompa, has passed away.

just recieved the news a couple of hours ago, and have almost no details.

it happened today or yesterday, he took his own life.

I agree Jaime. I would back any action to denounce the WTS regarding the suicides it has caused.

Rutherford's smear campaign (a must read)

there has been some interest recently about the moyle case, and how it may have set a precident in what became the society's disfellowshipping policy.

in july 1939, the chief legal counsel of the watchtower bible & tract society, olin r. moyle, resigned from his position in a protest over conditions at bethel and rutherford's mistreatment of workers.

he did not want to continue living under those conditions and he felt he could effect positive change for his brothers by taking such a stand.

Mix the truth with lies in to a pudding and call it steak

the "perfect storm" built up to an epic verbal battle between me and my jw hubby.

there's nothing like a pitched battle to bring out my best zingers so i thought i would share some of them here.

by the way, hubby and are fine.

pudding disguised as steak - i like that expression in fact it expresses the enduring power of religion in that if the mix (in my case the mix of history and fiction to make religion rather than truth and fiction) is accepted as steak and if enough people value it as such then because of the power of fame it is steak.

edit: my hubby is very much like yours jgnat and I also feel very comfortable and safe discussing such issues with him but i have to be careful to approach the subject in a more generalised way as above
