WOW! Was it really last night?
by AK - Jeff ini completely did not know the date of the memorial this year.
just happened across a post on fb in which it was mentioned a few minutes ago.. this is a good thing - probably the first time in 50 years i did not know the day/time of the memorial celebration of jehovah's witnesses.
i did know that today is good friday and that easter is sunday.

Emblem stupidity, and the bizarre dance of the confused memorial-taker
by cedars inwell, i went along to the memorial with mrs cedars.
it was my first since my "awakening" just less than a year ago.
apparently i made a lot of people happy by being there (even if it was only building up false hopes), the most important of which were my family.

I missed the memorial but remember thinking, whilst planting my pansies and palm trees (special offer at local supermarket), that I only had half an hour left to shower and get dressed. then I though how meaningless the memorial celebration is compared to what I was doing (as I still had to water my plants) so I decided not to go. My daugther is ill so I do have an excuse but mind you we were expected to attend anyway.
the palm trees are magnificent and I was wondering if the supermarket chain had come out in support of palm sunday. If so then the offer was too good to miss

Dallas (DFW area) members - BREAKING NEWS: TORNADOES IN AREA
by SweetBabyCheezits injust noticed three tornado warnings that included dallas, arlington, and fort worth.
nws text for these warnings stated that there were two "large and extremely dangerous tornadoes" confirmed on the ground in the area.

However, this is the second point, if we are in regular contact with a minor, someone under the age of 18, we may still be required by law to have a Working with Children Check. Therefore, if we find ourselves meeting that criteria could you please come and have a talk with myself, as per the direction in the letter there to speak to the coordinator of the Body of Elders, and I will provide you with further direction regarding that. according to my understanding of wwc rules regular contact means more than 5 times a year.
Over here many pioneers are assigned to help individuals who are under the age of 18 and this help is provided over and above whatever family bible study parents provide. Looks to me that a direct result of Mr Unthanks efforts is that now, in Victoria, Jehovahs witnesses must obtain wwc clearance before they can engage in such activities. this to me is a victory for mr unthank, perhaps not as significant as he'd hoped but still he has achieved quite a lot.
I'm still not convinced though that all elders are required to obtain wwc clearance as is suggested by the newpaper report.

Regarding your line of reasoning on when the events of Daniel's account happened - I think you need to supply a little more proof. My question would be to do with whether or not the main aspects of the events described in Maccabbees and in the book of Daniel could have happened in both periods.

they say that this is good news for people with post traumatic stress disorder, which i was diagnosed with a few years ago.
this, to me, brings up the ethical question of what did the traumatic events in my life, and the lives of others, add to society as a whole?

I don't know much about John Petrie but that picture is amazing. It seems to depict an upward struggle on a shaky and perilous support system which also has the man and rider strung to it. fear in the horse's eyes and stance is so palpable but the man seems very courageous as he extends himself fully.

hey sab thanks for your advice
I find it quite helpful to think of posts here as having the power to take me to a place, a nexus, an intersection. I ask myself do I want to go to that place. If the answer is no then I refrain from going there. this helps me separate the place from the poster. This is vital for me as I don't really know what the poster's intentions are. I can guess at these, which I have done in the past, but I have found that people are much more complex than I can imagine.
Going back to your opening post - I really liked the literary techniques and methodology you were using to construct your thinking. I would go even further (I have been taught to go further and found I enjoyed this) and look for the antithetical themes in texts. In doing this with the bible it is still possible to maintain faith - indeed it could strenthen faith if that is what you want.

What the Bible is at it's core is scientific art. The word art is very important because being such demands the reader take as many angles as necessary to digest the material. It's a book written by the people and for the people. An ancient mostly secret bill of human rights. I invite you to take a look at this peice of art by an artist named John Pitre: To understand this picture you must take a good long look at it. You will first come up with some possible situations, motivations and intentions and they will likely evolve over time. There is a good chance you might understand exactly what the artist was trying to express without reading his words about it. However, if you sat and had some tea with him he would not be opposed to a personal interpretation from someone who had nothing to do with it's creation process. Such is with the Bible and it's writers. Many people for thousands of years have provided verbal or written commentary to it's words. What we see today in modern Bible's is a thoroughly combed desert. The book did not even have chapters and verses when they were written down. The books were created to be like huge paintings that would take years to understand. This was likely because they became products and a competitive market arose. This is why the stories are so epic and have twists and turns. It reminds me of a scene in a movie:
