friends ask me to tell them what other organization is the true religion.
i realize its not even a very good question in the first place.

A "because we are now in the last days and an organization is needed for the harvest work."
Q "and how do you know we're in the last days?"
A "because the organization has correctly explained the prophecies which identify the last days."

hi all,would just like to say a quick thanks to all the regular posters on this board, please dont think for one minute that your hard work in unmasking the borg is going without notice.
lurkers read here and think subconsciously about all info provided and sooner or later it all dawns on them (like myself),,,, so once again thanks.. now, what my question is, do any of you guys know some real good scriptures from the bible that are really weird/gross/unethical/murderous ect ect?.
the reason being is that there are quit a few that i know that think the bible is like a nice smelling rose and seem to forget that there is also a really strange and dark side to it that really doesnt make any sense.
oh yes of course, siegswife thats the official explanation, as far as it goes. its still really wierd. why didnt jehovah tell moses anything? he just shows up at his place and tried to off him. how did zipporah know what was going on and what to do? the early parts of genesis and exodus where jehovah's just this guy walkin around, eating, and doing crazy stuff with no explanation are so weird.
two of my other very favourite weird passages are the sex sin at gibeah (Judg 20) and the census sin by david (2 sam 24) which were recently covered in another thread. theres so much WEIRD stuff packed into these 2 chapters, you simply must read them yourself!

have you ever wondered how there are only 7 world powers in world history? ever wonder what happened to the mighty empires of Mongol, Sumer, Indus, etc? the WT explanation is that the only world powers that actually count as world powers are those that directly affected gods people, in other words, those around jerusalem. so, extending that reasoning, war and violence dont really count unless theyre next to brooklyn!

it should be noted that JWs are well aware that people might join or return for the WRONG motives. this is fine tho, because the hope is that even tho the wrong motives get you in, once you're in and receiving spiritual truth you will develop the right motives. kind of 'doing the right thing for the wrong reason' sort of thing.
i saw this specifically stated in a WOL thread somewhere. a much more common example is someone in an urban congregations territory who's immigrated and is trying to pick up the language. the study is presented as a free discussion that among other things, will present a great opportunity to practice the language. a lot of people are clearly studying solely for the language benefits and we know it. but that's FINE. because the truth may reach their heart anyways, you see.

o yes hawk, i definitely agree that the quote is misleading, creating the impression of a more legitimate medical practice. however, just confining the discussion to aretaeus, the reference is SO short, basically just in passing, that i couldnt be too critical of it. besides, its one thing to make a reference in a misleading way. and its another to make a reference support an argument that it doesnt. and thats what im focusing on.

these look good sleepy. i have been thinking of composing a similar list of questions just for my own sake. to see it all laid in point form.
understand, of course, that most of these questions have a very easy answer tho in a superficial sense. if the opportunity ever does come for you to discuss them with an elder, you should familiarize yourself with these 'easy answers' so you are not left without a reply and made to look stubborn.

well i take 'weird'
one particularly weird passage which doesnt get much airtime is the part where jehovah suddenly tries to kill moses for no apparent reason.
Ex 4:24-6
And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him. Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me. So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
