  How would a WTS 'operative' behave?

  i'm sure several here have posted and tried to be a thorn in the flesh of some of the jw-loyal forums on the net.. what was most effective?

  if someone announced "i am an apostate and i think you jws are all wrong and i will prove why" do you think they would last very long?

  to be able to do any damage so to speak, a careful masquarade would need to be maintained of being a loyal jw while stying to stir things up.. now, think of how anyone opposed to us 'opposers' would behave here .... would they announce that they are jws and they they were going to "set us all straight" ... or would they pretend to be an apostate ... pretend to 'help with the cause' but try and do more harm than good?.

  interesting. however, i dont think you can draw a clear analogy between what one side would do and what the other side would do. they are very different groups. whereas so many apostates are bent on causing damage to the WT, thinking militarily, JWs do not generally think the same way about apostates. its hard to think objectively for those outside about what like is like inside, but really there is very, very little thought or mention of apostates. and the thinking that is there is pretty dismissive. after all, they no longer exist as people, remember? there are a few military types that think of it as a power struggle, and then of course there are the real freaks that send messages to folks around and sputter out barely coherent threats of annihilation in ALL CAPS and really bad grammar. but these guys are freaks, not representative of JWs, and not clever enough to pull off infiltration and subterfuge.

  while its possible that there are operatives, in short, i never attribute to conspiracy what i can more easily attribute to garden-variety human stupidity.

  this is quite the passage, i dont remember ever seeing that one verse before. of course, theres not a single reference to the passage in WT pubs. in the case of the apparent human sacrifice of jephthahs daughter, a 'burnt offering,' apologists unanimously claim a 'burnt offering' was really another word for temple servant. in this case, that's obviously not the case, since there are another different 320 that are set aside for temple service. so the 32 are clearly a sacrifice.

  on the other hand, since the 32000 were just the virgins, there must have been several times that number of men, women and young boys that were slaughtered already--whats another 32?

  Book Of Job

  in the back of the nwt,1981 edition, its says that job was written 1473 b.c.e on the plains of moab by moses.. how was it possible for moses to write the book of job on the plains of moab when the exodus happened about 1446 b.c.e.

  during tuthmosis 111 or his son's reign?.

  (the israelites were still in egypt in 1473!).

  yea, this always got me too. heres the explanation from SI:

  After he had reached maturity, Moses spent 40 years in Midian, not far from Uz, where he could obtain the detailed information recorded in Job. Later, when he passed near Job's homeland during Israel's 40-year wilderness journey, Moses could learn of and record the concluding details of the book.

  its so implausible as to boggle the mind! if you dont find it implausible enough that job and his companions would have a heated debate by giving long speeches in poetic hebrew verse, try to imagine someone conveying all this information to moses word-for-word and then rely on the finished product as the original inspired word of god. its enough to make a literary analyst weep in pain.

  as a young teenager, we were always having get-togethers.... you know the spiritually upbuilding' kind ie.

  bible quizzies, really boring stuff.

  good topic.

  i played some good games, a lot of those that joel mentioned. i actually started a lot of those cheesy games going in my day. the bible pictionary one could be fun if you chose the right kinds of words, not words like 'Christ's enthronement in 1914' or 'The destruction of Babylon the Great' (both examples from my father when he would try and make words) but words like 'leprosy' or 'concubine' or really undrawable words like 'justice' -- those were fun times.

  at parties with the more elite (elders pioneers overseers) where i would occasionally be, one game was to pick a bible character, reveal the first letter of their name like 'Z' and then each would take turns guessing with clues like 'Did he trick Mephibosheth out of his inheritance?' and you would have to figure out who he meant and say 'No, it wasnt Ziba.' the turn would pass when someone asked a question you didnt know or guessed the right person. This was a great game because it very quickly segregated people that didnt know their bible. just uproarious sweaty-palms fun.

  Can Witnesses Do That?

  this week is spring break for school children and so my kids are home this week.

  while i was at work yesterday some witnesses paid a visit to my home and tried to talk my 14 year old son into having a bible study.

  when my son politely refused, saying that he could not commit to a study without first asking permission of his parents, they told him that they knew many children who had defied their parents to study with the witnesses and come to meetings.

  who knows, generally accurate in parts.

  25-32 pharaoh basically makes joseph a holy man and.... 33 and now let pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of egypt.

  nice summary aChristian. you said the only reason for the chronology is the word 'about,' but i think the other more important reason is the relunctance to agree with secular historians about *anything*!

  yeah, whats your frigging hangup with times. its not my favourite font-face either, but it *is* the default on most browsers so someone must think its still useful. for sites with long text like this, its appropriate.

  and your description of the bold hover (which is a bad idea, i agree) indicates that you dont actually understand how its done.
