i was just wondering what do the members of this board think the biggest deception in the teaching of the watchtower society is?.
one of the biggest deceptions for me, one that stuck like a thorn in my side was their deception on earthquakes, hence my previous thread on the last days.
the wts, as i recall, published supposed proof of the increase in earthquakes since 1914. i was so angry when i found out that this was an outright lie.
i can forgive a lot of mistakes, inappropriate enthusiasm, imperfections etc. but i get off the train when i see deliberate deception and that was the case with 607. i drew my conclusions from the research in the publications and encyclopaedias solely. learning later of COJ et al just buttressed by own findings.

after reading alanf's post about "rutherfordian science" i become.
curious about the inventor of the earth annular ring theory, isaac.
newton vail, who lived from 1840 to 1912.. vail's theory was the earth originally was surrounded by a number.
this is AFAIK, the official teaching to this day. bizarrely.

for me i think it was the sunday meeting.. just wanting to stay home and sleep in.. but i think the watchtower study was the hardest to sit threw... you had to have it studied before hand.. and highlighted.. then sit there and listen to it all over again..
just saying hi to silver25. i dont believe ive seen many visitors from the west indies here at all. here in toronto, there is a very large guyanese population in the congregations. please tell us a bit about life down your way.

i've received numerous questions asking for documentation of issues raised on this board.
some threads have gems that get developed, then buried, and someone raises the same question.
cd roms whirr.. for some ray franz is more than sufficient, others also enjoy the perspective of "apocalypse delayed" by trained historian james penton, which was vital to me personally.
umm, not to start anymore demon panics, but that ouija title kinda jumps out from the other titles - whats that about?
and yes, i would be interested in more scholarly meticulous essays heavy on documented detail and light on hyped-up, flashy Fox-style exposés.

talk to you all soon,.

what is the future of the watchtower society?.
this subject is the greatest mystery of my life.
been in the borg since infancy - my parents and.
interesting comparison nicodemus. never looked at it quite like this. lets invert these two articles:
w92 11/15 15 Jehovah Is Not to Thank
8 Crediting Jehovah God for the successes that our abilities bring upon us is unwise and dangerous. Doing so can even cost us our very life. . . .If we encounter success because our actions are wise, . . . We should appreciate the divine help we receive, never crediting God for the predicaments and happinesses we bring upon ourselves.
w94 9/1 21 Beware of Self-Blame
Even if a person is unusually inept in a particular area, does this justify low self-esteem? No, because low self-esteem denigrates humans, whereas any weaknesses we have come from God. He should receive the blame. Why should we receive blame for something we were born with?

this is the first time i post to this forum in order to find new ideas about a doubt that has been torturing me.
no one in my congregation was capable of providing me with a reasonable explanation, and the society did not answered my letter about this sincere doubt of mine.
so, any help will be appreciated!.
this is a good question. i never thought of it quite this way. however, questions like this are difficult to resolve since no matter what you say, you will always come up against the counter-argument 'you can't question the way jehovah does things.' he has the right to do as he wishes and the wisdom to see the best way.
so, you say, babel invalidates the sovereignty test?
babel fomented the nationalism that has caused so much war.
nimrod wouldve destroyed the human race early on if not for Jehovah's intervention?
well, whos to say? no one can establish any of it and if you assume only jehovah could know, you have to trust that he made the right decision.
no doubt Sincere, this is basically the kind of answer you get when you discuss this with other witnesses. in fact the most compelling argument ive heard along these lines is this: how can jehovah be testing humans ability to rule themselves if he clearly knows that in fact satan is ruling the world and influencing the test unfairly. think that one through and you will find it hard to counter, except with the threadbare 'mustn't question jehovah' argument, for which, of course, there is no real response available.
since these questions never seem to resolve satisfactorily, i felt that a set of more pertinent and fundamental questions were:
did the babel account really take place?
whats this business with the 'plains of shinar' proving the babel story - how compelling is this evidence?
did the flood take place?
how did the genesis account come to be written?
is genesis factual?
if, Sincere, you can preserve your intellectual honesty intact, who will likely feel compelled to continue asking these types of questions and finding answers wherever a merit-based search for truth takes you.

hi folks:.
just thought i'd post this newspaper article about an ongoing battle with a religious group that is quite prevelant in sw ontario, canada called the church of god, a somewhat moderized mennonite group started in 1881.. a family's 7 children have been taken away by the children's aid society over the issue of spanking.
this group upholds the bible's "spare the rod, spoil the child" rule to the point of using actual sticks, belts, switches etc and express that pain has to be felt to instill respect for discipline.
id heard about this when it happened and havent investigated much further so i dont know about these other issues that are being masked under corporal discipline. but my initial response and i still hold to it is that dragging seven kids away, kicking and screaming, from their parents cannot possibly be good for anybody. isnt there a better way to approach this?
