Will science ever replace religion?

first, there've been some really good threads here lately...i've been somewhat pre-occupied with a rather laborious personal project, so i haven't been able to engage myself in your conversations as much as i'd otherwise like; but i like to watch .

but, to the point: recently, scott atran (anthropologist, author of in gods we trust, and now working with the national center for scientific research in paris, and at the university of michigan) gave an interview in discover magazine.

the topic was "the surprises of suicide terrorism," but the concluding question (and answer) was what struck me most:.

Toooo funny !!

i was last saturday at the verizon store, getting my cell phone fixed.

i am standing in line and waitin for the next salesperson to help me.

out of the corner of my eye is this guy standing, shaking his head at me.

tooo funny! What a jerk! Something similar happened to my girlfriend. Her and her hubby were shopping and she looked up and there was an old JW friend, she was caught off guard and did what any other normal person would do and said "hi". The JW got offended because she was put on the spot and just replied with a very sarcastic "hi". She put her head down and wouldn't even look at her.

i have a question....have any of you had this problem?........i ds'd myself about 6 years ago.

That is awful! Could it be that they just didn't recognize her? Children grow alot in 6 years. I know I wouldn't recognize half the youngs ones that have grown since I left the JWs.

New Here

i don't have a question, but i'm new here and i thought i would talk about my past a little bit, to hopefully make some new friends.. .

i was raised as a jw, well sort of my mom was married to a jw for awhile, then she married my dad and went to the meetings off and on.

when i was growing up i was made to go to them.

How do you view your parents ????? very tough question !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

being brought up in the borg since birth, i beleived everything my parents taught me and showed me, i looked up to them, they were my heroes in life.. now, i look back, they lied to me, cheated me, mislead me, did not look out for my best interests, and abadonned me when i needed them the most,.

i have nothing good to say about them (or my brothers and sisters), like to tie them both to a tree and ----- them.

they are very stupid people.. i'm sure i will wrestle with this the rest of my life.. thanks so much watchtower bible and tract society !!!!!!!!!!

I love my parents very much, but it has taken time and many life lessons to truly appreciate them. I can't change my upbringing as a JW and I probably will never be able to change them. They are happy and content being JWs. I can't say it never gets frustrating, but I try to look at things as they do and how I did when I was a JW and it helps me get through the rough spots. I believe my parents did their best in raising me and my siblings and I believe they did it with love. I just hope that I can continue to give my own kids my best and raise happy and healthy kids that love and respect me.
