Do you miss the sense of security the organisation gives you?
by Mr Facts ini am sure most of you miss the sense of security regarding the future that the organisation offers- the certainty of everlasting life in the paradise earth, being healed and the confidence that you will definitely see your loved ones again if you remained faithful.
but why did you pursue a course of life that had suddenly turned everything into a fable?.
i have pity for you all.. .

Peter Singer Atheist Champion "A Pig Is Worth More Than A Disabled Person!'"
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inrichard dawkins at a recent conference for atheist, told his followers to mock muslims and christians for their stupid beliefs!
we have been down the path of this kind of thinking dawkins, harris and peter singer promote, it lead to the near irradication of the jews, gypsies, disabled, mentally ill and any other undesirables who were not contributing to the greater good of hitler's, stalin's, pol pot and mao's ideals.. .
can we address the issue at hand, how would you debate peter singer's statement that a "pig is more valuable than a disabled child, human"?

At the library, there was a book on Hitler's regime. It had a photo of a beautiful, dark haired deaf boy of about 4 years of age, sitting on a 'nurse's' knee, the 'kindly' 'doctor' was holding a syringe. The 'nurse' and 'doctor' were getting ready to kill him because he was born deaf.
After seeing that photo, and the mere recollection of it now, made and makes me nauseated. It sends chills up my spine.
At what point is a disabled person considered to be worth less than an animal? Deafness? Blindness? Missing arms? I would hate to be forced to make that decision. If the person cannot communicate, does this mean they don't enjoy seeing flowers, smelling pizza, eating? If a person who is themselves ill and in pain makes a decision to end their own life, that is one thing...but to make the decision for someone else is another thing entirely.

Hospitality after Public Talk - ???
by RubaDub ini see a lot of mentions about hospitality after the public talk and honestly, i guess it is a practice that was not in the ny/ct area i grew up in or here in south florida today.. i grew up with an elder father and grandfather who gave public talks and were generally well-liked.
as a child, i never recall being invited to someone's house after the meeting.
granted, it was rare to travel more than an hour but regardless, it was typical to get in the car and head home after the "amens.

Band-the cong. I went to in the upper midwest did actually have gatherings in the basement, which was outfitted with a kitchen. That was stopped after a few times by the CO because it wasn't fitting use of the KH. What about the 'christian love feasts' of old, they used someplace, and probably where they were worshipping.

I loved hosting. It was really fun...almost always. We once hosted an 'odd' brother, and we recruited another couple to come with us, as this guy was as interesting as a lamp pole, he simply didn't respond to conversation. He later moved to our cong. and he turned out to be fairly nice, maybe he was having a bad day. We usually had people over, I usually made a ham, which is pretty hard to kill, home made mac and cheese, and other things.
When I was a kid, in the upper midwest, on the great lakes, we travelled long distances in bitter weather to have my dad give talks, he once gave the same talk 7 weeks in a row at various halls. We were always hosted. Everyone was gracious too. Sometimes we ate at the KH itself, because the distances were so far to a family's home and the local, rural restaurants were closed, because everyone was a church.

I started caring about my appearance more, oddly enough. I was stuck in a rut of 'you'll look great again in the new system' or the 'Jehovah loves the secret person of the heart', 'charm may be false and prettiness may be vain', thing. But now, I've been taking better care of myself, wearing makeup more often. I wear dresses a lot in the summer, rather than shorts, comfy, attractive dresses that are a little above the knee. My legs and shorts do not go together LOL! They scare even me!

Talk Coordinator: A pretty sucky job
by Open mind ini got this "privilege" thrust upon me for about 6 months many years ago.
i was a hubby, father of young children, service committee member, working 2 jobs and then this.
it truly is a thankless task.

When my spouse was talk coordinator, he made a list of 'A & B' speakers, as he didn't want to bore the people to death at the hall with tedious speakers. If there was a speaker he had never heard before, he tried them out. If the guy gave a 'C' type talk, he gave him one more chance, if he gave a 'C' again, he was off the list...needless to say, this made the job even more difficult. He was on the phone every night, searching for speakers. He would call the speaker the Friday or Saturday before to verify the guy was going to show up, he learned to do this the hard way, after several no shows.
He once called a brother to give a talk and the guy said 'I can't, I moved.' Hubby thought the guy had just moved. In further conversation, hubby found out the guy had moved 6 months before!
We were often the ones who had to host the speaker, as no one else wanted the 'priviledge'. I actually liked hosting, and entertaining people in my home, so usually it was fun. We almost always had a homemade meal for them, as I am a good cook. The speakers and their families were always very nice and sent thank you cards afterwards. One sister even sent me a package with a gift to match my decor! That was a sweet and unexpected gesture.

The Smoking Gun in the Conti Case!
by Diest ini think this thread got lost in the shuffle, so i wanted to make another one.
these are some of the key pages from the deposition of the lead elder, michael lee clarke.
clarke admits he gets his marching orders from the wts.

Interesting, the attorney-client priviledge evoked, to stop the witness from saying he was advised by Bethel on what to do. Sickening.

What Watchtower Got Wrong with Their Child Molestation Policy
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inin the style of stephen lett, i'm trying to come up with an exhaustive, enumerated list (without his crazy eyebrows, goofy facial expressions, and nutty voice).
what watchtower has gotten wrong isn't just their 2 witness rule.
it goes much deeper into other failures of jw dogma that has allowed this injustice and others to flourish in their organization.

Ah yes, blame the victim. Who cares if she was a little girl, she seduced him...he as a mature adult couldn't control himself. Makes me vomit!
