A question for mothers...
by Bob Loblaw ina human being, your child, was conceived, grew in you, and on one special day you delivered your child into this world.
a truly miraculous thing in and of itself.. when you were a jw, although forbidden to celebrate evil birthdays (sarcasm), did your heart ever ache contrary to watchtower teaching and want to shower your child with love and thankfulness?
i would think that if a religion were to believe in god, then their doctrine should have god somehow responsible for the act of procreation, birth, love, etc.

Bob, I always wanted to celebrate my kids birthdays, especially when they were babies. Turning one and smashing cake with a little fist, face covered in chocolate-that is only a dream memory for me. I let my fear of man, JWs, prevent me from celebrating my kids first birthdays. But, I always kissed their little heads and told them how happy I was that they were born on that day. Now, my youngest is 8. The past birthday saw a secret celebration, including wrapped presents. She was so very thankful and happy that her special day was celebrated by her mom, sister and brother...only dad was missing...his loss. -

Intro 2
by hillfy333 inpart 2. my wife and i were at a point where we wanted to move closer to our daughter as she was about to have a child.. so we put our house up for sale, and after a few weeks we had a buyer.
as we previously had purchased a block of land in the town we had planned to live in, we needed to rent for about a year till our new house was built.
during that time only one witness family showed any kindness to us.

My meeting yesterday
by stephanie61092 inso i just wanted to jot down some thoughts and feelings about my meeting yesterday.... first, the wt, paragraph 16. i couldn't help but laugh to myself at the blatant hypocrisy.
god’s word admonishes us “to live with soundness of mind ... amid this present system of things.” (titus 2:12) having “soundness of mind,” or being sober-minded, should certainly come into play when the explanation of a diagnostic method or therapy seems strange or mysterious.
can the practitioner or the one promoting it explain satisfactorily how it works?

stephanie-good points, never thought of the credibility of health cures and credibility of what JW's teach as being comparable, but they definitely are. Thanks for the thoughtful post. -

1974 Special Meetings
by NeonMadman inas we all know, armageddon was just around the corner in 1974. at the district conventions that year, it was announced that there would be two special meetings during the month of september; one would be for interested people (e.g., bible studies, family members, inactive, etc.
), and the other would be for baptized publishers.
these were to be held in place of the service meetings for the two weeks, iirc.

I remember the sentiment at the time. I was a 10 year old kid and terrified by what was being said at the meetings and everyones' somberness at how we were all going to be persecuted just like the brothers in Nazi Germany. experiences would be read out of the 1974 yearbook on what the JW's went through, the beatings, starvings, hangings and tortures. It affected me deeply, I'm sure that is where the beginnings of my panic and anxiety attacks had their start, along with the OCD that has been my constant companion.
We moved across the USA to be near my dad's relatives so they could be properly preached to by my family. We endured poverty, isolation from his family (they didn't take kindly to the preaching), loneliness and a definite plunge in our standard of living. This moved has had repurcussions to this day, financial instability of my elderly parents, inadequate housing for the aged-it was what they could afford with their diminished means, no saving for retirement...

Gas Pump "Witnessing"....Is this a thing?
by Bob Loblaw ini've seen this twice now within a month.
a car group hanging out at a gas station.
one of the cult members jumps outs of their car and runs up to a "worldly" gas pumper, arm stretched out, tract in hand, and here comes the juvenile at best question.

It is a vulnerable situation to be in, standing out in the open with a financial instrument, cash, debit card, credit card or whatever and having a complete stranger accost you. What a violation of personal safety and privacy. You can't escape immediately because you need to fill your car, so you are forced to listen to a lunatic ramble about religion. Just lovely. How encouraging.

The 19th Wife
by StarTrekAngel ini just started reading this book.
wife and i were at the local library a few weeks ago and she pulled it out of a shelf, almost by chance it was this book about mormons.
she did not read it much but said that it looks like a good read.

I haven't read this book, however I did read a novel about 'sister wives' years ago-don't remember the title. It was written by an ex-Mormon. It got me interested in the whole polygamy thing. Having visited an area of the Utah near Hildale and Colorado City, AZ, where this is rampant made it more real. I hope you enjoy your read.

Someone on here (can't remember who), brought up the same point made in this article. He left the JW's, but his friends would remind him periodically when he got on his soap box, that his JW was showing,
