my conscious mind is able to throw off my fears about the wbts being right about the great trib.

and armegeddon.

it is able to shut off the panic thoughts when they spring up...however when i go to sleep, it is another thing entirely.

bigmouth-thanks for your feedback. Occasionaly the nasty things bring on major anxiety/panic attacks and then I have to go searching for my 'rescue' med. to get me back in control of myself. I'm hoping they will fade as things go on.

@Lady Lee-thanks for the advice for self talk. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of future my kids and I will have, as their lovely father, my hubby is still very in, but he does let me talk to him about the WBTS and its faults, so I have hope. I'll try the self talk tonight.

My conscious mind is able to throw off my fears about the WBTS being right about the great trib. and armegeddon. It is able to shut off the panic thoughts when they spring up...however when I go to sleep, it is another thing entirely. The unconscious allows fears and panic to thrust into my dreams and all kinds of awful things take place. My kids are dying and I'm being told it is my fault for not 'exercise faith and having works befitting such faith'. The word around me collapses as the Watchtower illustrations often show, with burning rocks careening down from heaven, the ground below opens up to snatch my family and myself as buildings around me fall down. It is very disturbing to say the least. Does anyone else have these kind of nightmares?

" the bible never mentions gambling.

yet it's a disfellowshiping sin.

I never could figure out why buying a $1 lottery ticket was considered greedy or wrong. There are many brothers who are greedy when they go to a restaurant with an all you can eat buffet...plate after plate of greasy chicken, spaghetti or desserts...and this seems OK.

Higher Education and Disqualification for Privileges in the Congregation

when i was still serving as an elder in the late summer of 2006 in a congregation of jws in socal we received a letter from the "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses" (read: the governing body) directing that anyone pursuing a higher education would be disqualified from privileges of service: elder, servant, pioneer, etc.

i remember this quite distinctly because i had just received by ba in education in june a few months before this.

in 2002, i had decided to pursue a degree under the society's then current "it's a personal decision" policy and was quite shocked at their drastic policy change.

now i'm not saying a god does or doesn't exist but the brand name god of the watchtower certainly doesn't exist.

he is the magic imaginary friend in the sky that jws talk to telepathically.. .

@Breakfast-I too suffered serious mental illness years ago and prayed constantly for relief. None came. Had I had to pray on bended knee, my knees would have holes in them from so much praying. I prayed for years as did my parents to me to have some mental peace. Peace finally came after I was DF'd and felt that I could finally get professional mental help. (Paxil is a friend). Counciling helped alot, the medication even more.

@Punk-no, I don't believe prayers are answered. Never seen any personal evidence, no matter how hard I've looked.

Several years ago I would have felt moved to tears, but had to hide them from myself as well as others and felt guilty for feeling so moved by something like this. Now however, I am moved to tears and feel no guilt whatsoever and say to this soldier 'Welcome home!'
