Went to a viewing at a Catholic Church...not what I expected
by PaintedToeNail ina child in my daughter's class lost his mother very recently.
we went to the viewing last night at the local catholic church.

Monsieur-You are right, but it does help to have a larger body organizing the event. The Catholic Church in Philly feeds poverty stricken kids lunch every day during the summer...whole neighborhoods. A single individual can only feed a few. The churches also have the venue to feed larger groups of people. A womens group I associate with feeds people 3 times a year, churches seem more regular because they have a broader base of volunteers. I was merely highlighting that the Catholics seems so much more attuned to their neighbors and members than JW's. -

A child in my daughter's class lost his mother very recently. We went to the viewing last night at the local Catholic Church. In the foyer area there was a bulletin board with pamphlets regarding child sex abuse, including by the church, in both English and Spanish. Plus domestic violence pamphlets and other social problems such as depression. There were sign up sheets for helping those in need for food and heating assistance & house cleaning for the disabled and elderly and so forth....SO VERY DIFFERENT from what would be on the 'information' board at the Kingdom Hall. Where all we would get were talk assignment info, Watchtower readers, Public Talk schedule. The Catholics seems so much more interested in the average congregant than the JW's. They see a need and fill it rather than wishing them to be well fed and walking away.
The Father immediately introduced himself to us and asked who we were. The church was very clean and modest. I expected to see crosses and icons everywhere, and there was only a simple photo of Jesus, not on the the cross, but with his arms outstretched (think something from The Greatest Man book). Every thing was quite modern and understated. This church was probably built in the 1950-1960's. Not a European Renaisance style, but I still was expecting more religious imagery than there was (due to my early childhood training that Catholics use graven images in there worship, so they are idolators).
It was definitely an eye-opener and a true example of why JW's shouldn't trust everything they've ever read. Hubby even commented on the modesty of the church.

A fashion model. Was asked on several occasions to do modeling for local businesses. Always said no, as it wouldn't have been proper in the 1980's. Now, it's okay apparently. At least it is for CoCo Rocha.
I'm not saying that I would've had her success, but I might have earned enough to put myself through college with a degree in interior design.

21 Years as an Elder, 5 as an MS, I will never be that guy again.
by James Jack ini was deleted as the cobe after i let my adult child move back home and he admitted that he fornicated under my roof while my wife and i where away on a rbc project.
of course the elder mode in me kicked him out of the house.. the elders moved quickly to remove me because i was too involved in "theocractic activities", i had neglected my adult son.. i accepted this primarily because i didn't want to serve with a boe that did not want me.
i was devastated however because it was the only life i knew.

On announcing the presence of a sexual predator
by disposable hero of hypocrisy inthere's a lot of talk on here about changes the society must make, one of them being the announcing of sexual predators in the congregation.
i agree.
but do any other organizations do the same?

The JW's actively discourage anyone from talking about a sexual predator by telling members they can be DF;d for slander, even if what is talked about is true. Freedom of speech is being denied to those who have been victimized. At a congregation I used to attend, there was a stern talk that anyone who talked about the pedophile would be guilty of slander. Someone I know was very upset because their bible study with small children would be vulnerable to the pedo. I suggested they get a copy of the newspaper report dealing with the crime and sentence and give it to the bible study, That is what they did. No slander, just copy and hand-out. -

How do Americans feel about Canadians and Britons interjecting their opinions onto hot localized political topics: gun laws, abortion, ect?
by adjusted knowledge inin addition to the above question, why do citizens of the two above mentioned countries, or other countries, feel the necessity to tell americans how they should interpret the american constitution for localized issues?.
i fairly much have an idea what the general population in the usa feels in regards to the first question.
this could be one of the possible reasons cnn piers morgan poor ratings and eventual firing.

Strange that a Texan, of all people, would think a bovine was a moose. Must have needed glasses. Maybe he was related to Dick Cheney. We live in the wilderness too, a lot of bears around here, they come right up to our house and scare the livestock. A gun makes sense in some situations.

Hi, I can't seem to sign in using my phone. It allows me to put my info in, but the little brown 'sign in' button doesn't work. I've tried over the last few days and the same thing happens. My user name and password come up, then I have to verify I'm a human and then when pressing 'sign in' nothing happens. Anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Thanks. -

Need to vent: Wife just went in full cult mode, huge fight. she is so brainwashed
by goingthruthemotions inout of the blue my wife started to ask me about my feeling about the borg.
i told her i didn't want to talk about it...she persisted.
she already knows how i feel, i told her that my biggest beef is that they use mind control, and yep she went in to how i was an apostate and how she doesn't want to be married to an apostate.
