My Story & Situation

i just wanted to say first off thank you all for the warm welcome and kind words.

despite what i've been told by the wbts, i have a hard time believing people in the 'world' are by default bad just because they're non-jws.

so thanks for the kindness.

I can totally relate to the aging fast thing, since it happened to me too because familly problem required me to be an adult when I was only 12 or so. Actually, it's not the situation that requires it, it's sadly the parents failing to act as adult parents protecting their kids instead of half children relying on their own kid as if they were adults... but I only realised it far later. Even in the worst situation, responsible parents will make sure never to ask from their kid what our parents asked from us - I've seen single parents going through real hardships, yet their kids had a real chidhood and could develop like any kid should.

I'm saying that because the after effect for me was a really hard time when I was around your age. Not having been able to experience childhood+adolescence hits you in the face round 20-25 years old. Even if you're sure you're more adult than people your age (like I was convinced), some preemptive counseling sessions can prevent the worst. I made the mistake to assume reading books and looking by myself was better than another human being's input, and I can tell you it's not enough - it has nothing to do with "knowing". I'm saying that because you seem to have also been looking really hard for something.

As for the Witnesses, I encourage you to really do your own research, and question everyone, even on this board. That nice young sister sure was convincing, as I sure was to young sisters (and young brothers) when I was pionneering, also convinced of my objectives and the value of pursuing "spiritual" goals. Let me tell you, how I wish I had had internet at the time, and could have checked for myself what the Watchtower says in its publications, realise the misquotations and the blatant lies.

Oh, and that "us vs them" mentality? That's 100% the sign of a high control destructive group. Don't trust me, read Steve Hassan's books, or have a look at other cults - the Family International, the Mormons, Scientology, etc...

I wish you well on your journey. Who knows, maybe you could even help that nice and zealous girl to realise how tricked she's been by the Watchtower, and not waste her life like she seem set upon to do.

Memorial Invitation official first day today

well it's that time of year again and the invitations to another pointless memorial aka reject jesus party is now in full swing.

even though it's only the first day i'm already more than sick of it!

this is the first year i am fully mentally awake for the memorial season, and honestly i'm so sick of it all!

Disillusioned Lost-Lamb, try taking a personnal territory, preferably near a library or a place you can stop and study, read a book and relax. "Preach" by yourself at different times than circus meetings, and you can use that time for your homewok/etc. Then on Saturday morning, you obviously have to do your homework that you couldn't do during the week because you were "preaching" so much.

Just have some good experiences to relate to your mom from time to time, and don't forget to take some Asleep! before going out and disposing of them before going home - mom will be so happy to see your zeal and the blessings from Jar-Hoover! You can even run by her some of the objections you got in field circus and ask her to help you research the subjects!

Just trying to help: has it occured to any of you preaching just for the sake of not being counted as inactive that you could just stay home, and write whatever number you fancy on your report at the end of the month?

You could even start regular pionneering for what it's worth, it's no more tiring than adding a 0 after the fake hours you already report. Fake preaching or fake reporting, what's the difference?

i've been lurking here since late last year...was very hesitant to join the forum because of fear that satan would control my pc.... .

i'm born in, but always had my little doubts about "the truth" since i was young, but went ahead and got baptized ect.... .

i stumbled upon this site while looking for a km and initially thought it was a jw forum, but after seeing some of the titles of various threads, i thought to myself "i'm on an apostate website".

Kool Jo, if you want letters, there's this site which is quite revealing of the kind of answers you get from the Borg. From experience, that's the same stance you get from elders when they're confronted with a subject where the GB is clearly wrong. They just brush the subject aside.

I actually left the Borg because I became an atheist, not the reverse. Knowing more about the 6 major catastophic events in the history of life on Earth, then asking myself questions about the Flood...

As for the purpose of life... if you talk about the purpose of one's life, I'd say your life has the purpose you put into it, nothing more, but nothing less either. That can be as beautiful a purpose as you can imagine, and a far better one than the one any skydaddy could devise for you. Good for me since I have a big imagination ;)

If it's about the purpose of life in general, it's about the same. We think, we can assign a purpose to life with what we (all living beings) will collectively want to do of that life. There doesn't have to be an intrisinc purpose external to life itself. A purpose is not better because it has been assigned to you by somebody else, and it's not worse because it's you that has to find it by yourself. Having that purpose assigned by God only gives you the comfort of certainty, but the purpose from God won't be better, only worse. I don't want to trade beauty and value for comfort.

On a fundamental level, all species want to survive and reproduce. Then you can add other purposes, but in itself it's good enough - because it's not the destination that counts, it's the travel itself. Surviving and reproducing make that travel possible for billions of living beings that have been, are or will be incredibly blessed with the chance to experience life and assign their own purpose on top of it.

I think of it as parents think of their children - you want to give them the best chances in life, not for your own happiness, but for theirs. So we all try to advance and make the world a better place, because that allow others yet unborn to also experience that life in the best conditions possible.

It's the opposite of what most religious people believe - a Being creates others, only to ask them to live their life the way He wants, for His glory. No sane and loving parent would do that.

Tip: If you're using your PS3 to access the forum, you can also plug any cheap (5$) USB keyboard so it will be less painfull.

One option that hasn't been mentionned, but that you can also consider is requesting an annulment of your baptism. Since you got baptised at 14, only recently attained majority, and apparently didn't sign any paper since (pionner/ministerial servant papers), that could work, meaning you'd be considered as if you never got baptised and won't be shunned.

It's not necessarily something to do straight away, but once you've had time to do your research and ponder your options it could be an avenue to pursue.

Raising Children as a UBM - looking for QFR and recent WT article(s)

not having any luck searching for this, i know there is a qfr that provides very specific guidance that a ubm if the 'head of household' is responsible for choosing the faith of the children.

i recall there being a recent wt article with similar information which i have also not been able to find, any help would be appreciated..... .

Each time I hear that 'head of household' expression, I want to bash a GB member's head on their desk. If they want so much to live in a Conan the barbarian fantasy, I should be allowed to help go all the way.

As for WTLibrary, no Mac version. It's probably developped in Visual Basic anyway...

Your best bet would be running it through the free Wine or, if it hasn't been ported to OSX, Crossover, which is the commercial version. Both are programs that allow Windows-only software to run on Linux and Mac, so you install one of them on your Mac first, then you pop in the WTLibrary cd and install it through it.

Else if you've got a Windows license around you can install the full Windows in Virtual Box or VMWare, but that's more complex and not as convenient.

this thread is for seekers, and for those who have found god to share their insights and experience.. the unabridged gospel message was designed as a map that leads to a personal relationship with the "god of abraham" (yahweh) through a direct relationship with jesus (as our one and only mediator).. as such it is the exact opposite of the message called "religion" which leads instead to a personal relationship and intimacy with the "god of religion" (satan the devil who transforms himself into an angel of light) and his religious organisations, hierarchies, clergy, sanhedrins and pharisees.. two key bible passages highlight this antithetical relationship: matthew 23 (religion, self-righteousness) versus romans 3 & 4 (the gospel, especially imputed righteousness or justification, similar to imputed holiness or sanctification).. a useful starting point may be to find and mark the 152-odd times that the bible refers to the "good news" or "gospel" depending on which translation.

the watchtower library search tool can be useful for this.

very true cofty---but i cant fathom how any MAN--the head of the household----can continue with the charade of attending meetings if he simply doesnt believe the lies anymore---if he stays away--and backs up his stance with common-sense reasoning---then he has a slim chance of rescuing his family from the clutches of this evil religion.

Nobody, man or woman, is the "head" of the househould, unless they're a single parent. Both spouses are free adults, and there's no freaking nead for a "head". Unlike what the Watchtower Machist and Cavemen Society pretends, there's no need for one to have the red button in a relationship, even when the 2 do not agree on something. It's called communication and compromise, no need for a little prick to feel that if he doesn't get the last word his wedding is going to sink.
