"Make her prove every bit of BS that leaves her mouth. Do not let her change the subject. She has to prove the stuff that she comes up with ... no diversionsallowed" blacksheep
If you do this, don't let her throw in any questions until she has answered yours. JW are trained to take control of the conversation by answering questions with questions. Soon as they do that, they control the convo. You don't have to get mean or angry, but stay firm.
Randy Watters from freeminds.org has some great tips for talking to, and asking questions, that do not trigger the auto shut down(fingers in the ears) witnesses do. He has some great info on his site, even the "what does the bible really teach" study guide, how to study from that book, while raising the right questions that makes them think.
That DVD made me so angry to watch, just propaganda fluff.

WT message about Apostates
by mankkeli inbecause of listening to the devil and not rejecting his lies, the first human pair apostatized.
so, then, should we listen to apostates, read their literature, or examine their web sites on the internet?
if we love god and the truth, we will not do so.

We can see that the active JW are not "obeying" the slave.
The latest July 15, 2011 (paragraph 6 and 7 page 16) Watchtower says similiar "6..apostates are "mentally diseased" and they seek to infect others with their disloyal teachings." "7 We do not receive them into our homes or greet them. We also refuse to read their literature, watch TV programs that feature them, examine their Web Sites, or add comments to their blogs."
I particularly liked the "mentally diseased" *twitch* part. I am so not mentally diseased! Yes you are, I am not, who asked you?

help! husband going to convention
by leftchica inhi friends!.
so my story is this: i married a jw who was inactive and once we got married he got back into "the truth" and i started to "study" with people in his congregation.
i had many red flags and was hesitant to knocking on doors, but after a year of "what does the bible teach" being studied with a pioneer and having been pressured to go to meetings, i too, became a jw.

There are youtube recordings of the talks as well. It was one of the things that helped to wake me up. I was having serious doubts tho, I was desparately (sad to think of how desparately now) trying to hang on to believing in them. I had been reading some watchtower articles on the "official" watchtower site and read one pertaining to the media. I was starting to look on the net for the first time, and I was in fear mode. So I wanted to arm myself (gag again).
Anyway I read this article http://www.watchtower.org/e/20000622/article_02.htm Particually down where it talks about "making generalizations, name calling, and playing on emotions". Then I found the talk on youtube about Beware Apostates! I was soooo worried about becoming an apostate myself (oh how that word struck terror in me).
I listened to that talk, and got more and more angry. They did EXACTLY what they warned about in that article. It was almost word for word what you should look out for. Even that wasn't my final straw, but it was a big straw that broke. It is amazing looking back, how hard I was fighting to keep believing in them. Even with everything right in my face, I still WANTED to believe in them. I was scared of the alternative.
I fully understand just how hard it is to break free. But each straw that broke, it got easier. I was extremely grateful for sites like this. Even tho you big bad apostates scared me haha, it was so helpful to see that I wasn't crazy.

Are you an "apostate"?
by cedars ini'm quite new to this site, and i've noticed that many of you are more than happy to call yourselves "apostates", even though many of you evidently believe in the bible and in jesus as saviour, etc.. i'm aware that the society brands anyone who disagrees with them as being an "apostate", but just because they choose to do this, does this mean we should be comfortable with being so branded?
should we "bend over" and take it?.
here is what the insight book says on apostasy:.

I have no problem being called an apostate. I call myself an apostate. For me, it's freedom. I remember how that word used to strike terror in me. It was suppose to. If you dare to leave, the WTS WANTS you to leave quietly, to keep quiet, to not speak out. Continue to be loyal to them by staying quiet. Since I have no love for the WTS, since I now can see everything, I refuse to do what THEY want.
My calling myself an apostate has nothing to do with me, it is however a big FU to the WTS. They have totally lost their grip on me. I am not afraid anymore, and I won't do what they want. I wont keep quiet.

Adamakawee you took the words right out of my mouth. I too am a 45 year old zombie killer. I love zombies, I love horror, I love games, I like to play.
There is a big difference between childISH and childLIKE. I embrace what is still childlike about me, and yes, I never thought of it till I started to read the boards, but part of it could be because I was denied so much growing up. I think I'm just a big kid at heart tho.

I agree with what most have said here, research the Watchtower society, research the history of the organization, learn as much as you can. The more I learned, the less I feared. The more I learned, the weaker the hold they have, and eventually it's gone.
There are many who have dealt with, and are currently dealing with family. There are many who have been able to keep their relationships with those still in. Those would be the ones I would focus on. There is a whole stream of "how leaving the watchtower affected me" on youtube. Many have great advice re: family, moving on, etc.
I also suggest freeminds.org. They have a phone/email help line set up. I was able to call and talk to someone, that was very helpful.
Hang in there, keep reading, keep talking, like has been said...it does get better, it does get easier, freedom does come.

I took a course in medical assisting. I worked as a medical assistant for years, adding certificates wherever I could.
Now I am a sewing educator. I used to travel quite a bit teaching, mostly up and down the east coast. Now I only do one show a year, in Michigan, in Sept.
I mostly teach locally now.
