yea there is your prophecy of disaster. ohhhh i prophecy that a flood will occur somewhere in the gulf area.....i'm sure they are fine, 5.0 quake isn't exactly earth-shattering...unless it's epicenter was directly underneath their house. just a really big pain in the arse.

More Earthquakes for Christchurch NZ - spare a thought for Sizemik and others
by Broken Promises inearthquakes continued unrelentingly in christchurch on saturday, including one measuring 5.l at 6.37am (0437 aedt), as residents of the city prepared for a christmas overshadowed by an ongoing natural disaster.. quakes measuring 5.8 and 6.0 on friday left dozens of people with minor injuries, while damage echoed previous quakes that had rattled the city since september last year.. saturday's morning quake was located 10km east of akaroa at a depth of 9km, gns science said.. there were also two magnitude 4.2 quakes and two magnitude 4.3 quakes overnight and many other smaller shakes.. there are still about 400 residents without power on the eastern side of the city and aftershocks have cut water supply to the suburbs of sumner, redcliffs, moncks bay, balmoral hill, richmond hill, clifton and scarborough, parts of st andrews hill and mt pleasant.. the palms shopping mall, which serves the eastern suburbs, is not opening on saturday.. however, public transport is operating and a carols by candlelight concert is going ahead at hagley park north on saturday night.. "liquefaction, rockfalls and water supply are the main areas of concern following yesterday's cluster of aftershocks in christchurch," the ministry of civil defence and emergency management said on saturday.. on friday belongings fell from shelves in homes, others were swamped by liquefaction, windows smashed and once again stock was destroyed in stores where business as usual had only just resumed for the pre-christmas rush.. malls were evacuated, as was christchurch airport, disrupting travel for holidaymakers and those heading home for the festive season.. power was knocked out to 26,000 customers and phone lines became jammed, but key infrastructure, including water and sewerage, were largely unaffected.. some quake-weary residents once again left their homes.. denise and max ferris, who live in the eastern hill suburb of mt pleasant, packed up their young daughter, her new kitten and their car and headed to leeston, 40 minutes drive southwest of christchurch, for a reprieve.. their home was too damaged again to stay in overnight.. "we would be lucky if there are six people left in our street," mrs ferris said.. the family plan to return home for christmas day but expect to have a picnic outdoors, not trusting it will be safe indoors.. "like most people, we have to try and make it as normal as possible under very trying conditions," she told nz newswire.. deputy mayor ngaire button was adamant the quakes would not set back the city's recovery.. "we believe that this event will pass quickly and that we'll all be able to enjoy christmas on sunday.".
geonet project director ken gledhill told aap the quakes are part of a pattern that has been seen repeatedly since september 2010, with aftershocks petering off ahead of quakes last boxing day, and in february and june.. .

origin of worship?
by cptkirk inwhen you take an honest look at life, it's pretty pathetic.
the fact that it exists at all.
the law of nature is kill or be killed....if you're a fish, you've got predator sharks looking to eat you.

yea, the great irony being that it actually takes more faith to live w/o god than w/ god. or more ignorance.

what's the scripture again that says something about...
by cptkirk ingod cannot be tried with evil?
something like that.
seems like that is a good starting point for some pretty intense logic inconsistencies no?.

aguest thanks. which translation is that? i'm wondering if the NWT is a bit different. that verse seems to be explicitly saying that god does not tempt in the sense that he would not mislead people in a calamitous way....i'm thinking it must be another verse, or maybe NWT states it differently. the verse i'm thinking of (at least from my memory) i seem to recall states more directly, in terms of god and his inability to do evil in any way shape or form.

you're supposing they even care to even at least ostensibly comport themselves with a level of decorum anymore. they really don't. their new thing is to sweep it under the carpet by saying, "each congregation has it's own personality". it's like that old 80s song 'they call you mr. personality because you're so ugly'.... saying each congregation has it's own personality is just saying the same thing. in this case, you could just say it's the sister's personality, instead of saying she's an uneducated loathsome creature.

why can't we get shows like star trek anymore?
by cptkirk inseems like the original star trek was almost universally enjoyed.
from the kooky music theme 'space.....ahhhhh ahhhh ahhh ahhhhhhhh ahhh', the upbeat message, the deep subject matter...the chemistry of the characters.
you remember being much younger almost felt like not a care in the world?

here's a real deep question for you: do you think society will ever get to a really strong point again, without having trust in each other anymore?
is there a different societal profile which can reach the heights of the past? without even really needing to trust each other anyway? (using some other means of checks and balances...but does that detract from the possibilities intrinsically?)

saw a watchtower in public area today...
by cptkirk inwas weird.
used to look at it as something positive.
this time i actually covered it with other reading material, with the thought that i'd be helping people to stay away from it.

yeah. i have a bit different take on this. i think what you guys do is good and it is important...but for the same reason i never wrote a da letter, i can't really see myself writing anything on their material. maybe i'm wrong. the reason i didn't write a da letter is because when i thought about it, it just seemed ridiculous. like a grown man writing a letter to disassociate himself from the three stooges fan club. i can't even take them seriously enough to do this, and frankly....
when i think back about my days in wt, if someone came at me angrily, it usually strengthened my faith. it's when people laughed at me, is what really made me question things. i'm talking about sincere laughter, not laughter couched in hate. i've posted on this subject before...the more serious you act directly towards them, the more serious they take themselves.
bill maher really i think has the best approach when it comes to this bar none. he basically points out the ludicrous (he gets pissed once in a while, but mostly), and at the same time he remains *somehwhat* humble, in that he listens and says ok let me think about that....he doesn't even necessarily need to obliterate their argument, just via some glib questioning, makes them look absurd.

was weird. used to look at it as something positive. this time i actually covered it with other reading material, with the thought that i'd be helping people to stay away from it. pretty crazy, i wondered to myself why did that feel so good? really hit me...thinking to myself...calling these people a high control group doesn't really even do them justice..just plain scary group of people.
just thinking about some of their doctrine that they got "new light" on. thinking about the people who try to shun and gossip others in the congregation out of existence....on things the damn GB was going to CHANGE the next year anyway. just disgusting.
i'll never forget being in a room with like 5 jw's and them trying to run a brainwash deal on me, telling me the WT says i can't pray for one of my family members because they had "apostate" ideas....they were so zealous telling me that i absolutely could not pray for someone in my family.
if i were to see these same people right now years later, they would probably go into the same routine as if they hadn't missed a beat. karma...
