Link Between Child Abuse Cases and Financial Upheaval
by HomebytheSea ini really hope that, with all of the layoffs and construction suspensions going on that something more widespread comes out in the media discussing the huge payouts that wt will be responsible for regarding child abuse cases in the near future.
at least this might be a wake up call to some.
i fear that so many just think the end is coming & they aren't questioning what's really going on.

I know that reality can be painful, but at least people might get a chance to live the remainder of their lives in freedom, doing what they choose. -

If your Bethelite Brother Doesn't Know About It, It Musn't Be True
by HomebytheSea ina few weeks ago my deeply indoctrinated father who is a long time elder was wondering why we hadn't been attending meetings, and why my 8 yr old son wasn't on the theocratic school ( sounds like i almost off the hook with that one...lol).
we live in a different state, but i came to find out that one of the elders in our hall called my father, who he never met, to see why our meeting attendance had been so sporadic (i am in my mid-40's, so that knowledge made my blood boil, to put it mildly!
i tried not to answer, but he kept pressuring me, so i brought up the arc and child abuse cases i had heard of in our area.

SecretSlaveClass, you should meet my mom! She's even more hard core!
Jwfacts, I feel the same way. If God was really involved, one victim, or the concept of one victim in someone's perverted mind would have been too much!
Punkofnice, I'll have to remember that for next time & ask him what he would do if it was his grandson. It MIGHT make him think twice. Once when I was going through a divorce about 15 yrs ago, my abusive ex broke into my apartment, which I was renting from a witness couple. I called the police, and my presiding overseer @ the time said "I can't believe you'd take a brother to court!" I asked him what he would do if a "brother" broke into his house & raped his wife. I got no response, of course!

things like, .
"don't get mad at me for enforcing the rules, because jehovah made them, so if you don't like it, you're disrespecting him.

DesirousofChange,
My mother will also say, "Well, we're living in the last days, & when Paul wrote to Timothy about 'critical times' he was talking about those in the congregation!" I swear, there is a regurgitated answer for everything!

Olivia Wilde, my son had questions about disfellowshipping because someone we know was being shunned in the congregation. My husband & I were DF'd when he was born & we decided to tell him when he asked about the other situation (we were DF'd because we got married when I was legally divorced but not scripturally free . . . long story!)
He said he didn't want to give talks or be baptized into a religion that disfellowshipping and won't talk to family members. At 8 years old, he has it all figured out. We started missing more & more meetings, and when my husband & were talking about the ARC, he had questions, so we told him what was happening, and how we couldn't support the organization if this was allowed just like we wouldn't send him to a school or other organization that didn't protect kids. He understands quite well, but I feel like he gets stuck in the middle of it BTW 2 sets of very active witness grandparents, aunts & uncles. We are trying our best to keep our families & also to stand up for our convictions. I think many of us are fighting the same battle. I'm reading a book written by a non-JW acquaintance of mine whose family survived Nazi Germany. She said "I would also like to encourage others not to be embarrassed or afraid when they know they should march out of step, even if they stumble and fall". I think her words really apply to all of us here.

Oubliette and LostGeneration,
Thanks for your replies! I know, it's totally cult mentality. I can only hope something will wake them up. My mom mentioned the "big shake-up at Bethel" and I said, "Maybe they're running out of money from all the child abuse lawsuits..." She didn't reply, but who knows, maybe she'll think about it.

dubstepped, my little boy wanted to know about the conversation, so I explained as much he would understand, and he started crying when he heard that his grandpa doesn't think I know very much. He said, " But Mommy, you read so much more than I do!" My husband and I are working hard to help him to respect women as equals. At least something positive may come out of all this!
