The singing of the songs was classic. I have been to a few halls through the years where that was almost exactly spot on.

To Whom It May Concern: Avoid The Spirit Of Rehoboam
by JWB in"however, he [king rehoboam] left the counsel of the older men with which they had advised him, and he began to take counsel with the young men that had grown up with him, who were the ones attending upon him.
9 and he went on to say to them: 'what is it that you are offering in counsel that we may reply to this people who have spoken to me, saying, "make the yoke that your father put upon us lighter"?
' 10 in turn the young men that had grown up with him spoke to him, saying: 'this is what you should say to this people who have spoken to you, saying, "your father, for his part, made our yoke heavy, but, as for you, make it lighter upon us"; this is what you should speak to them, "my little finger itself will certainly be thicker than my father's hips.

I am sure we can all point to one or two people within the congregation they attended that would have been gone long ago had the attitude been changed. They stayed simply because they could not afford to lose out on family.
How many of us here keep a low profile, simply because we don't want to cause trouble within our families?

not sure if this thought has been dealt with from the april wt

Wow, they might as well just say "Trust us, it will be fine."
What happened to "Make sure of the important things"? Should we have just trusted they were right on the Generation, or how about "Millions now living will never die", or the understanding of Organ Transplants, or use of Aluminum, or vaccines, or Hemopheliacs with Factor K.
Essentially they are saying, what we are saying right now is right, and will never change. Even if it changes, it doesn't, we are still right.

Show how Christ was Loving and kind. Show how Matthew 12 ties in with his love of mankind, how showing mercy over sacrifice is an act of love.
Talk about how love builds up those around them, never tears down.

Will the WT stats take a dive in 2014?
by Aussie Oz inwhile looking through stas charts on jwfacts i notice two charts of publishers through the years.. on them, it is very clear that growth fell off the chart after 1975 and dropped dramaticaly again at 2000.. we know why for 75 and remember that many understood the big a to come by 2000.. will 2014 mark a subconscious and hopefully conscious psychological reaction from jws and 'interested' ones i wonder?.

For many it is just the idea (and ridiculousness of the thought) that 1/10th of the way through the "Millenial Reign" that Christ has yet to cleanse the earth. Think about it, if you have a job to do,say moving, do you get up that morning and relax on the couch a bit, drink some coffee, then around noon decide you are going to actually start packing and loading the truck?
No, you get up and moving, and want at least the first truck loaded by noon. You have started cleaning the house out.
Is Jesus up there sitting on the couch, drinking some coffee, and thinking "Hey, I've got all day to do this"?

Which Beliefs and Doctrines Helped Push You Out?

What pushed me to the breaking point was my reading of Matthew 12. Here Jesus emphasized Mercy over sacrifice.
Taking that to the next step, you can see how heartless (and a sacrifice) the blood doctrine is. They are asking people to sacrifice their lives and those of their children, whilst ignoring the spirit of the word. Life is more precious than even the law.
Another thing the Israelites were forbidden was the shewbread in the temple, it was only for the Levites. Yet David and his men were permitted to eat the shewbread when they were starving. Again, the law was set aside in the face of someone dying.
This is no different than the blood issue. Because they have steadfastly held to this cruel doctrine, they are themselves bloodguilty, as much as if they had committed the murder themselves.

If you are remotely interested, I reread the Gospel of John!
by TimothyT in.
the following scriptures all taken from john point to the fact that jesus christ is the only saviour of the people on this earth.
there is no mention of organisation or any other form of salvation within this book.

Diest - " Tim now it is time to research about the bible. Awen made a great point today...The bible calls Jesus 'Rabbi' yet that term did not appear until 200 CE. Is it a book you can trust?"
This is an erroneous arguement. I am sure there are a number of words which do not directly appear in the Bible, including Christ, Temple, Tree, Cross, etc. They are all translations made into modern language. If the term indicates one who was teaching in the temple, the modern term of Rabbi is correct.

Learning to pray again
by Cinciguy74 inso, one of the things that is catching me off guard is that i have forgotten how to pray.. as a jw we were all told to pray, but when we really look at it, the prayers are just as structured and mind numbing as those of the catholic church reciting the rosary.
what caught my attention was stephen at act 7:59 where he calls on jesus (not jehovah) to receive him.
he prayed to jesus.. yet, as a jw, the prayers you always here begin like this: "jehovah god, our loving heavenly father..." and end in "in jesus name, amen".

I am finding that these opening and closing remarks are really thought stoppers/starters for JWs. And it disturbs me that something that should be the most intimate form of communication becomes this exercise in thought conditioning.
So now, I am trying to learn to pray again, and to break those old molds. And it is hard.

KH = Private Property (No Trespassing sign)... wtf?
by Scully in.
do other churches have "no trespassing" signs on the grounds?.
i don't recall ever seeing "private property - no trespassing" signs on other churches, especially ones that have a priest or minister available at all hours, or ones that offer space for community services or other kinds of events.. i wonder whether there is some kind of legal expectation of a charitable organization that pays no taxes to offer access for community services in order to maintain their tax free status.. anyone else ever see signs like this on kh property?.

Cinciguy74
It is normal where I am from to have Private Property signs, even at churches and Kingdom Halls. It serves a couple of purposes:
1) You can have someone removed if you don't want them there.
2) It provides some legal protection, in the event that someone is there without your knowledge or permission, and gets hurt (think skateboarding kids).
3) Allows enforcement of various regulations, such as a non-smoking campus.
4) Allows for the restriction of picture taking, audio and video recording without prior authorization.
