Secret Building Project?

i watch a lot of ex-jw videos on youtube and read many of the comments.

recently, i watched a video by an ex-jw whose videos i had never watched before.

i don't remember his handle.. anyway, there was only one comment posted at the time i watched the video.

I watch a lot of ex-JW videos on YouTube and read many of the comments. Recently, I watched a video by an ex-JW whose videos I had never watched before. I don't remember his handle.

Anyway, there was only one comment posted at the time I watched the video. It stated that the person posting the comment had a son who was a volunteer for a building project of some kind for Watchtower, but he was not allowed to talk about it.

Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone have any idea why they would want a building project kept a secret? They usually boast about new buildings.

More money and meeting with 3 elders

so, we had this meeting with 3 elders ( larry, moe and curly) my uncle who is the lawyer sat in the room and stayed quiet, and fact for 40 minutes we let them talk.

we would just sit there.

they went into along winded monolog about how the world is in bad shape and getting worst.

Oops! I guess I thought all meetings were committee meetings if they're with the elders. Any meeting with the elders would be the Spanish Inquisition if they could get away with it.

i have run across another jw death where the final wishes are for no service.

3rd or 4th instance.

another wanted a celebration of life which the elders squelched as far as i know.

It has to be tough being a PIMO. I hope you find some way to enjoy life when the relatives aren't around.

I asked my daughter to donate my body to science.

I totally agree that a JW funeral is the worst!

What are the odds that Armageddon is soooo close?

well judging from past prophetic pronouncements....go figure.

"surely there is not the slightest room for doubt in the mind of a truly consecrated child of god that the lord jesus is present and has been since 1874;…" watchtower 1924 jan 1 p.5).

"the prophecy of the bible, fully supported by the physical facts in fulfillment thereof, shows that the second coming of christ dates from the fall of the year 1914.

Yes, I remember wondering why world events didn't get much worse in the late '60's and early '70's. I was expecting the Great Tribulation, but life hummed on normally. In early October 1975 I remember standing in my kitchen, expectant of some cataclysmic event, but nothing happened. NOTHING!

Needless to say, that time was the most disappointing and unnerving time of my life. Then, at the kingdumb hall, they told us that we didn't know how much time there was between the creation of Adam and the creation of Eve (as if that had something to do with their false prophecies) and that they could be a few years off.

By 1979, I didn't care if I made it through Armageddon or not. My mental health was failing, and I knew I had to change my situation in order to get it back. I am thankful for that false prophecy because it got me THINKING!

TonusOH: I'm glad you had a support system in place. It helps a lot.

When I left, I went to stay with a cousin far, far away where no one had known me as a witness. Therefore, I didn't have to deal with shunning either. Whatever works!

eyeslice: I didn't think a church would ever be converted to a kingdumb hall, but you actually know of one. I have a friend in Chico, California who told me of a church building there being converted into "some kind of Jehovah's witness place." I told her I couldn't believe they would move into a former church because they believed Satan lived there. Wow. Apparently, I'm still learning about them.

Netherlands: JWs prevail in Bethel raids and shunning cases

this week, it was revealed that the organization had won, at least so far and partially, two significant cases.. first, the overijssel district court declared that many items seized during the 2018 bethel raids contain privileged information, which the public prosecution service no longer contests.

this applies, in line with the supreme court judgement, to "all seized documents that, according to the complainants, fall under the right of non-disclosure ... and that contain information relating to information shared with elders in trust in the context of pastoral care, including information relating to the religious judicial committees"; apparently, 15 million electronic files the prosecution was unable to provide for judicial examination are also considered privileged.

the documents have already been returned, their copies are to be destroyed until 1 november.

Probably someone will have to die because some JW was shunning a person who needed immediate medical intervention (or something similar) before the court will realize the criminality of shunning.

Becoming a JW

i rarely post here, but i often check in.

i used to post on h2o as well.

i think i once posted some of this on h2o, but there are many new ones who have joined since then.. i first encountered jw's at the age of 9. it wasn't in the door-to-door work, however.

Nathan Natas: I was in Lexington, KY during the 1950's, and I only met people who came to the Shriner's Hospital. Interesting that your name is Nathan. When I attended my first assembly in New York in 1963, a child named Nathan, who was only about 5 or 6 years old at the time, for some reason latched onto me and saw me every day at the assembly. I think his last name started with a G. I don't know if he was from New York or where.

question for those who either aux pioneered pioneered

how many of you would have spent the hours "pioneering" if it weren't for the pats on the back and being looked up to as someone special in the congregation?

i will admit that back in late 1970's i attempted to aux pioneer during a campaign because it was promoted and seemed the right thing to do,but i didn't get the hours and it was stressful trying to...and i didn't feel like a cheerful giver.

i never attempted it again.

I remember when it was called "vacation pioneering," but was changed to "auxiliary pioneering," probably so they could get people to do it even if not on vacation.

I auxiliary pioneered sometimes, probably because I was an elder's wife and felt obligated to meet certain expectations. I remember putting the word "Caucasian" in the blank on the application that asked my race. I didn't question the reason why they had to know your race. Anyway, one of the (ignorant) elders obviously had never seen the word "Caucasian" before, and brought my application to me, pointed at the word, and looked at me like I must be from Mars. He didn't say a word, just gave me a very quizzical look and pointed at the word. I just said, "That's right" and turned away.
