Changed: Head coverings for sisters, w15 2/15 QFR
by wifibandit indoes a female kingdom publisher need to wear a head covering if she conducts a bible study in the presence of a male publisher?.
in a questions from readers item published in the watchtower of july 15, 2002, it was stated that a sister should cover her head if she conducts a bible study in the presence of a male publisher, whether he is baptized or not.
further consideration of the matter suggests that a modification to this direction is appropriate.. if the male publisher who accompanies the sister while she conducts an established bible study is baptized, the sister would certainly want to wear a head covering.

Guilt, Regret or Denial
by game1914over inin your time of being a witness, have you witnessed a jw experience death of a loved one due to refusal of a blood transfusion?
i know this is an extremely sensitive subject and can reopen deep emotional wounds.
if you're willing to share, i am interested.

Several years ago, after I had already been free for several years, there was a national news story about a JW who died from lack of a blood transfusion. I think she'd been in an auto accident, but I don't recall the details. I had known this woman when I was a JW. I met her in a laundromat first. She had just moved to town, and then she was at the next meeting I went to at the KH. She was married and had small children. We went in service together and developed a friendship.
When I saw the story on the news years and years later, I was horrified. A reporter interviewed her husband. His take on the situation was that she had been a good wife, and he would have done anything to save her except approve a blood transfusion. His grown-up children were standing by. I was crushed because she was a very nice person.
The Watchtower leadership has damned itself to hell, if such a place exists.

My Parents have gone FULL CULT MODE! Having a job is SATANIC!
by BU2B into give a little background, my parents are in their late 50s.
around a year ago, my elder dad got laid off from his job.
he worked as a auto mechanic making ok money.

Your parents are a classic case of the saying that "Truth is stranger than fiction!" I wonder if it would be Satanic to rent out a room in their house to bring in some income without working. I'm actually sitting here getting tense over their total disregard for reality and the consequences of their bizarre "thinking."

If they want to use your children as witnesses against you, I recommend getting an attorney and try to stop it. A spouse is not required to testify against their marriage partner in court. Likewise, a child should never be put in a position of having to be adversarial with a parent.
You've got them on the run, so keep up the good work!

Currently, my favorite name is Beatrice, meaning "blessed." I consider it a classical name, not a fad name. I also like Jade or Jada. I read through all of the pages of this post and made sure these had not been mentioned already before suggesting them.

Mormon child indoctrination and Witness child indoctrination....
by stuckinarut2 ina great thread has already been started called "caleb and sofia have mormon cousins.. it shows how mormons also have cartoon characters to indoctrinate their kids.
here is the link to their website section for kids and it shows all the topics they cover!.

The JW's probably copycatted the idea of kids' cartoon characters from the Mormons. I can't imagine their ever having an original idea!

Human kindness
by stillin ini hold kindness in high regard; it separates us from the drudgery of life and elevates those who practice it as well as those who receive it.
my family has been going through a big crisis for several weeks now and i've noticed a few things.
several of the elders have expressed their concern for us, shared a scripture and then back out to field service or whatever.

I'm sorry for whatever you're going through. I'm glad there are supportive people in your life.

Honey who-who???

Thanks for the apology, Gregor.
FHN: I did not mean to imply that all Appalachians are on food stamps and/or welfare. However, most of my family is at this point. In the '50's, we were able to own our own land and grow our own food. That's a dream now more than a reality. Many Appalachians have gotten educated and own businesses. The lucky ones have become country music stars (e.g., Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton) and movie stars (e.g., Patricia Neal and Polly Bergen) or media stars (e.g., Diane Sawyer).
I do realize, too, that there are ignorant, uneducated people everywhere, even in the wealthiest suburbs. As a child, I was stigmatized after we moved to another state, so we had the image of being backward (probably largely because of our dialect) no matter how we really were.
I've never watched the show, so I wasn't sure where it took place. The descriptions I've heard made me believe it probably was Appalachia.

Honey BooBoo is a child living in Appalachia, traditionally a place that lagged behind the rest of the U.S. in education and economic development. Appalachian Americans have commonly been called "hillbillies," and other derogatory terms, such as "briars" or "briarhoppers." Mama June apparently is Honey BooBoo's mom. Traditional Appalachians tended to be fundamentalist Christians, but the social upheaval begun in the 1960's has affected them, too. I don't know if Honey Boo Boo was born out of wedlock or not. There has been a lot of talk lateley because, apparently, Mama June currently is dating a child molestor. I have never watched the TV program entitled "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" or something similar, but I have heard others speak of it.
I do think Appalachian Americans (of whom I number myself and my family), because of our poverty and backwardness, apparent lack of ambition or education, give other Americans someone to look down upon and laugh at.
If you would like to see a realistic depiction of Appalachian life in the 20th century, I recommend the film Coal Miner's Daughter starring Sissy Spacek as the country singer Loretta Lynn growing up in Butcher Hollow ("Holler") Kentucky in the 1940's and being pushed into fame and fortune as a country singer/songwriter by her abusive husband.
I grew up in East Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky in the 1950's, and am grateful for the experience of having lived in Appalachia before the days of welfare and food stamps. We had a culture then. We had pride then. We could hold our head up and know we were surviving and sometimes thriving despite our lack of education or mainstream culture.

It would be fun to get with some friends with kids at similar ages to yours. One set of kids could be witnesses, and the other set of kids could be Mormons. At the end of the evening, see which "religion" got the most candy. That religion would be deemed "the Truth."
