I cannot imagine their being able to control the "publishers" without in-person contact. They are already losing control. Yet, kingdom halls are being sold every day, so I'm confused. Do they want to maintain control and micro manage their people or not?

"while being jacked up on scotch" AND living the high life at the expense of the "brothers" and criticizing the clergy for doing the same.
What a bunch of hypocrites!

Dating in the Org
by Rattigan350 inyou men, who were brothers in the congregation and you were dating sisters in the congregation, did you find that they cared more about how you made them look in the congregation than they cared about you?.
you women, who were sisters in the congregation and you were dating brothers in the congregation, were you more concerned about how he affected your status & how you were viewed in the congregation, than you cared about him?.

LongHairGal, thank you for the support. Yes, peace of mind is priceless. When I was young, I tried to please everyone, an impossible task. I did listen to "JW busybodies" and suffered a lot as a result. Then one day I figured out that it really was none of their business.
We are lucky to be Americans. I realized this when I went back to my old location and was persuaded to attend an elders' meeting. Up until then, I was still a true believer. But during the meeting, I realized that in another place or time, I could have been strung up and surrounded by people who rejoiced at my death. That's the way the elders treated me - for nothing!

I married an elder over 50 years ago. He was 9 years older than I was. I was not in love with him, but most of my friends were already married, and I was almost 22 years old. The marriage apparently worked for him, but not for me.
He had so many rules for me. I couldn't go to Tupperware parties (about the only social events JW's had besides inviting someone for dinner), couldn't watch or listen to rock 'n roll, couldn't babysit or otherwise help friends unless it was so they could go out in service, etc. I wanted to return to college, but that was forbidden, too.
One time when my husband was the theocratic ministry school servant, I was assigned a talk. I wrote my "theme" for the talk on a piece of paper and gave it to him before the meeting. When it came time for me to "take the stage," I sat down, and he asked me, "Do I have your theme?" I replied, "I gave it to you." Of course, the congregation laughed. I went on with my silly presentation, thinking nothing more of it. However, it seems that the laughter of the congregation humiliated him. He certainly was thin-skinned if that upset him. When we got home, he lit into me for "causing them to laugh." I tried to convince him that it was no big deal, was natural in fact. But he wasn't having it. I couldn't convince him that I had done nothing wrong and hadn't tried to "make him look bad." Finally, I started crying profoundly because of the hopelessness of the situation. He slapped me in the face. That was "it."
I made plans to leave him. I moved to the other end of the country, where I had a cousin who helped me get on my feet. Ever since then, I have been an independent woman. Life hasn't been all roses, but I make my own rules and have never again "humiliated" anyone.
Thankful that I live in a country where such freedom is possible.

What is your IQ? Does it Matter?

Elvis Presley allegedly had an IQ of 70, but I don't think he exhibited characteristics of being "slow." He certainly earned a lot of money.
I always got high scores on standardized tests, but have always earned a low income. As others have said, IQ is only a "good start" at best. I am thankful that, in middle age, I got a job with a good retirement plan. Otherwise, I'd be in subsidized housing or on the street.

QUESTION of the DAY (a brain teaser)
by Terry inquestion of the dayeach man chosen of the twelve jesus selected had been called disciples, or "students" (meaning "one who learns").
(latin discipulus; greek μαθητής mathētḗs; hebrew לִמּוּד limmûdh;jesus is stated in the bible to have sent out the twelve using a new description: apostles, "whom he also named apostles" (luke 6:13), first before his death "to the lost sheep of israel" (matthew 10), and after his (resurrection to spread the message of the good news to all nations (matthew 28:16-28:20).with the above firmly in mind, the question arises: “why aren’t the governing body called apostles?”.

"Theocracy" is not a Biblical term either,

it depends on whom they say it to. Most normal people would say it back,

Is Bible prophecy now starting to come true regarding the prelude to the great tribulation?
by Disillusioned JW inis bible prophecy now starting to come true regarding a prelude to the great tribulation?.
full disclosure: i still don't believe in the bible's claims about the existence of the supernatural, even of jehovah god (i'm an atheist and a scientific/philosophical naturalist), but i am asking this question because recent events are starting to seem (to me) to fit well the description of some prophecies in the bible.
consider the following.. several hours ago (on 11-26-2021) as i was about to enter a local fred meyer store of my city (in suburb or small city in the metro area of a large city) a person i know told me that a moment earlier a person left the store in a hurry with a cart load up with unpaid merchandise (i think i was told it was groceries but i don't remember that for sure).
