Tornapart, I've wondered the same thing.
On the other hand, there's the distinct possiblity that they are simply being ruthlessly pragmatic in their approach to membership, effectively adopting a policy of:
"Look, if you're too smart, independent minded, or emotionally strong to be part of our little codependent club, we don't really want you here. You're just trouble. So we'll continue to drop little tidbits like this in our literature from time-to-time to remind such individuals that, 'Yes, we know we run a cultish little enterprise and we intend to keep it that way, thank you very much.' If you have a problem with any of this, the door is over there!"
No other explanation makes sense, otherwise how does this kind of stuff get by the editors and proofreaders. Allegedly the GB reviews all of this stuff. Can it really be possible that they do NOT see how things like this apply to themselves just as much as others, in this case Mormons?
Confirmation Bias and Cognitive Dissonance theories only provide a partial and incomplete explanation.

Remarkable Statistic - Bible Studies compared to Baptisms
by jwfacts ini am surprised i have not noticed this before, particularly since this is one of the most important statistics, and so have just added the new graphs to watchtower publisher statistics.. the number of bible studies generally trends roughly with the number of publishers on a one to one basis.
however, the number of baptisms has not been rising.
this has resulted in a rapidly falling conversion rate.

Great analysis as always JWFacts!
Interestingly, if you eliminate the 1975 Era years, say 1969 - 1976, there was a peak in the effectiveness of Bible Studies leading to Baptisms in the early '80s. From your chart it looks like 1983 was a really good year. After that, it's all downhill from there.
BTW, BOC stole my snarky comment ...

Good Reasons To Hate Every Weak And Ex-Jehovah Witness.
by AuntConnie in1. my husband's time is finite, it's wasted on spouses arguing over money, sex or family mattters with stupid home visits.. .
i hate people's constant open hand for money, it's the weak individuals asking others to pull their weight.
my family worked extra hours instead of begging the strong members for district assembly money, cat food for seven cats or tiny little rag-a-muffins weiner dogs.. .

Welcome,
You seem to be extremely confused, but that's not surprising: it comes with trying to be a good JW.
Simply put, JW "Theology" is a recipe for intense frustration, overwhelming resentment and generalized anger.
Take some time and figure out exactly who and what is the cause of these feelings. Then do something positive about it!

Great find Data-dog. I liked the image of the goldfish jumping from one bowl to the other as well.
It's really a telling comment about human psychology how a cult can publish things like this and not see how it exposes their own cultishness!?!
If you're interested in understanding this phenomenon better you might want to take a look at these links:

New Here! So many questions! :)
by TeenageInsider inhey everyone!
i'm so happy that i finnally joined i just turned 17 and i have so many questions about the org.. i've been lurking around the site for months, and love reading experiences about bethel, and all the hypocricy that the wtbts spews out.. so i finally joined in and hope to make some great friends.. a little about me:.
im male, 17, and i am a born-in, so this is all i know... i was baptised at age 13 i beleive.... my gramma, and grampa and mom , and sisters and brothers, are all jw's.

TeenageInsider: One thing that bothers me the most is how everyone acts and behaves in the ORG. There like zombies, its creepy. They all sit their and nod their heads.
Exactly, once you "wake-up" and become aware, it really is pretty obvious how drone-like everyone is.
For example, how often does anyone during a WT "Study" actually offer an original thought? Rarely, if ever. Almost every comment is either a word-for-word regurgitation of what's written in the paragraph or a paraphrase.
TeenageInsider: When I actually LISTEN to the talk, its always repetitive nonsense, the speakers basically say the same thing over and over, and use the SAME illustrations over and over.
Yes. Although, I don't personlly object to a certain amount of repetition. I'm a musician and love listening to and playing my favorite pieces of music over and over again. But I do object to the fact that so much of WT "Theology" is complete nonsense. Seriously, once you start learning some critical thinking skills and begin really paying attention it quickly becomes really clear that many, probably even the majority of, WT teachings and doctrines are contradictory, inconsistent and frequently even internally incoherent.
It's worthy of ridicule, but no one dares speak out because that will just get them shunned.
Take some time and get your bearings before you decide how to act on your new found knowledge. Many have planned and executed controlled fades and been able to leave the religion and yet maintain family contacts. It's not always possible because many JWs will shun you if you simply quit attending meetings, but it's worth a try.
Ultimately, your personal dignity, emotional health and even your sanity are the most important things!

Data-dog: I presented a similar chart concerning last years numbers to the Elders at my KH. This factored into the C.O becoming involved and suggesting that I am a possible apostate.
Although the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" (aka, the Governing Body) provides this "spiritual food" for your alleged sustenance, you are NOT supposed to think about what any of it actually means!
Bad dog, bad dog. Go sit in the corner!

Wow, that's a 6.6% increase over 2011, which itself was a 5.6% increase from 2010.
Things are truly speeding up in the "time of the end." Just the wrong things for WT "Theology":
- “Six convincing lines of evidence that we are in the last days” … "Sixth, the number of genuine anointed disciples of Christ is dwindling, though some will evidently still be on earth when the great tribulation begins. Most of the remnant are quite elderly, and over the years the number of those who are truly anointed has been getting smaller.” - w00 1/15, p. 13 - [Emphasis added]
- "Over the past seven years, from 1974 to 1980 inclusive, Jehovah’s Witnesses have made steady progress. Their growth is healthy. Only as to Memorial partakers has there been a gradual decline, which is in accord with Scriptural expectations." - 1981 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses, p. 31 - [Emphasis added]
