Scientologists break up families! Does this sound familiar?
by 00DAD ini just watched a 2008 nbc nightline special on scientology.
in it, there was an interview with ex-scientologist and former seaorg member astra woodcraft.. among other very interesting statements, she made this telling comment about scientology: .
"if they would just let people who wanted to be there, be there.

You could always write a letter to the local BOE and tell them you have become aware that their confidential files have been comprised and that if you suffer any type of damages--whether financial, emotional or otherwise--as a result of their negligence you will hold them liable, both personally and as an incorporated congregation.
That ought to scare the crap out of them!

Roberta804,
I understand your concern. But think about it: Who would want to steal records concerning DF'd and DA'd people?
Probably only someone that was DA'd/DF'd themselves and didn't want the KH to have any notes.
More than likely they've already destroyed all the notes and you're in the clear for ever. Probably they did you a favor.
But again, I understand your concern.

Londo, looking forward to your comments. I'm sure they'll be insightful!
ShirleyW, I would have liked to see that. You're absolutely right about the similarities between JWs and Scientologists. Scientologists are perhaps a bit more extreme about certain things, but it's only a matter of degrees. Insanity is insanity.
As far as I know, many cults use the term "apostate" to demonize any former members that have left the group. Steven Hassan comments on how this is one of the identifying marks of a cult. Even the ones that don't use that term generally have the practice of shunning former members and somehow labelling them in the most negative terms.

Who are the REAL demons behind the Watchtower?
by Dogpatch ini apologize for not writing much of anything in several weeks.. did you miss me?
(don't answer that!).
i am doing pretty good now after going through the worst year of my 60 years of life... but in order to make some changes that will enable me to keep working, i really had to take time off to take care of medical issues (mostly my spine - destroyed after 30 years spending 10-12 hours a day on the computer).

Who cares? What does it really matter? Why do so many people get bent out of shape over it?"
Ummm, how about 'cuz it's supposed to be "The Truth."
Remember, these are the same folks that are constantly harping on about the importance of accurate knowledge.
It either is or it ain't.

Orangeburg Assembly Hall - designed to be sold as a future supermarket?
by cedars ini've just been watching a youtube video that reveals the new assembly hall in orangeburg, sc.. two things struck me when watching it.... firstly, everything is attributed to jehovah, right down to deciding the location where the hall is to be built.
"we examined over 300 properties," said one interviewee, "we were reminded that jehovah knew where the site was, we just had to keep looking and show him that we were persistent.
" other workers interviewed throughout the video attribute everything to god, as though it is impossible to build anything without divine direction.. here is the video.... .

sir82: Have they ever actually sold one? If so I am unaware of it.
Yeppers, there was the famous Igloo Assembly Hall in the Woodland Hills, California. It was sold around 2006 for mucho dinero. As I recall the amount was somewhere north of $20 million US.
It's was supposed to be redeveloped into a complex of apartment buildings/condominiums and retail. I think when the real estate market tanked the project got derailed. I just looked at the satellite image on Google maps and it's just an empty lot.
I'm sure the JWs are saying Holy Spirit called that one!
Here's an old thread about it:
