  well it was a very long discussion.

  the elder knew nothing about the scandal, but he stated that he had no issue with it since when the case was brought to light, the society acted immediately to right their course.

  in fact he thought it was a sign that that the organisation was indeed the "truth".

  Thanks for your comments attempting to clarify the situation and bring some clear thinking to the matter.

  It's informative how JW apologists will excuse pretty much anything the WTBTS does not matter how hypocritical or harmful it is.

  Understanding this mindset helps us to appreciate that it's important in helping those just waking up to TTATT that we be careful in both what we say and how we say it.

  We want to make sure that we are not falsely accusing the WT of doing something it hasn't done and thereby reinforcing the WT's conception of "apostates."

  There are plenty of things that the WT has published and done that clearly expose their hypocrisy without us having to make stuff up or twist the facts.

  this is not monumental... i am sure all of you think it all the time.. but as a 3rd gen born-in ex-elder ex-pioneer ex-bethelite i spent so much time in this relion believing that for some reason that god, who loves all humans and created all things only wanted a few people to get knowledge of him - and this small group in america was his choice.. .

  now as i said i am sure 99% of you probably came to that realization before and it is common sense, but the very fact that as a grown man i never really thought about this for more than 15 seconds.

  the whole idea is just ridiculous and freaking stupid.

  In the congregation I attend, no one--and I mean NO ONE--commented on the directive to not communicate with DF'd family members by email.

  The lack of comment on this was notable, I think. As Quendi said, "The silence was deafening!"

  That being said, my favorite bit of mind-control from this whole session came in the question for the very last paragraph:

  What is your resolve when it comes to your use of free will?

  Clearly the answer is: I hereby resolve to use MY FREE WILL to do whatever the Watchtower tells me to do!

  What is so really insidiously evil about this particular WT is that is starts out discussing the power of choice, how it gives a person a sense of control over their own life. Then it proceeds to talk about three specific areas: employment, recreation and dealings with disfellowshipped loved ones.

  In regard to each of these areas they set up the discussion as if there only two choices: do what YOU want or serve Jehovah, thereby effectively removing any real choice on the part of the individual. For those that don't know this is the logical fallacy known as a False Dilemma. They present two choices as if there are no other choices and lead the reader to the conclusion they want. In reality, there are many other choices, not just two. Also, it does NOT follow that if a person takes a certain job, plays frisbee on Saturday morning or texts their disfellowshipped mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter that they are being disloyal to Jehovah.

  This is a classic example of manipulation and mind-control by the WTBTS. You may have heard this colloquially referred to as a "Mind-fuck."

  If giving people choices empowers them and gives them a sense of control over their own life, then what does it do to them when a person in a position of authority removes those choices and takes away any sense of personal control?

  You won't find the answer to that question in this week's Watchtower, or any other one for that matter! You'll have to reason it out for yourself. Trust your own mind, have confidence in your own ability to think.

  For any lurkers here wondering about the motives or intentions of the leadership of the WTBTS I would urge you to consider this: The kind of carefully worded, highly manipulative, controlling language used in these articles does not happen by accident or mere chance. In theory, the GB reviews, proofreads, revises and approves each and every article published. This is evidence not only of the deliberateness of their intent, thereby revealing the motives of their hearts and minds, but also of the conspiratorial nature of their actions.

  Does that mean he walks to the KH rather than drive the nice, new car his daddy bought him?
