  Cults or mere Abusive groups?

  defining what a cult is, is difficult.

  similarly, in science, there is no established definition for what a weed is; at least i have found none.

  there is no clear-cut way to separate and define a weed from other non-weed plant life by logical methods.

  i guess that might say something in and of itself.. thanks to everybody who replied to my last post i just got through reading the responses.

  i have to say i didn't clarify my last post very well as i was pretty emotional at the time.

  i would definately fade out of the congo slowly if i could but the thing is i'm still living at home so it would be very hard to do.

  Like someone said, careful about disclosing your true feelings to others 'still in'; they will 'narc' on you.

  School is the greatest opportunity to slip away. Get real busy in studies. Looking back, school was the ONLY thing I ever spoke up about. So, technically, I never stepped on an Elder's toe that hard.

  Figure some way of expanding your school and you can really stretch this one out. It will easily stretch long enough to get you out of you parents house. And then, the 'cares of life' will take your time and attention. Getting settled in the new apartment, the job is tough, gotta take a night class... Life is easier than keeping up w/ the WTS curriculum. Even a tough life is a good bit easier.

  well im going to be unpopular here.

  i am still in jw orginization, in fact i just went to a meeting tonight and even had the privlege of caring microphones.

  i'm being set up as an example in the congregation...and guess what else...i dont believe anything!!

  OTF,

  Fence sitting is an honorable mechanism. I pride myself as being one of those, perhaps the most inactive person ever.

  There is NO need to do anything!!! Learn to nod and smile. Make real non-committal utterances, such as "thank you", "that's interesting", "hmmm...", "good point", "I see what you mean" and so forth.

  Who needs a doctrinal discussion. Just 'shine 'em on'!

  Develop a mysterious ailment. Contract Materialism; that's a pleasant way to go. It's rarely fatal. Go on night shift. Move, across town, across state, across country. Get a job that involves travel. (I did several of these; you are not restricted to just one.)

  But you gotta do something about the microphones, like an allergy or such. Drop them a few times, that should work.

  I'm trying to do the lighter side. If you don't have an overbearing, 'born again', IYF (InYerFace) father, like me, it could be an OK journey.

  At any rate, TAKE IT SLOW, NO HURRY.

  Privacy legislation - let's make some trouble

  as of january 1, 2001, canada has new privacy legislation (bill c-6).. similar legislation has been adopted in the u.s., although i am not.

  familiar with it.

  NEWS FLASH: The Blainville Canadian situation reportedly has been ruled on, in favor of WTS. See Orbison's post on this, entitled
  "Witnesses Can Keep Visiting".

  Not knowing the real inclination or "flavor" of Canadian Law & Courts, I was unsure of how this would go. I felt that they patterned their law in the direction the U.S. goes, but also
  have the British influence and some socialist overtones from
  whatever direction.

  While I felt that they could have gone much more conservative, it appears that they have ruled as the U.S. typically does. That is
  in favor of the religious freedom, even if it is not so orthodox.

  there have been reports over time that each kingdom hall keeps a "do not call" list of addresses.

  these are addresses in the congregation's territory where, for one reason or another, the jws in the field service are advised not to make calls.

  The Garden of Eden

  if one assumes that the bible is true, (not saying that it is) then a really big question arises.. eve was in the garden, minding her own business and a snake decieves her into eating from a tree that god had said not to eat from.. she then goes to adam and says that the snake said it was good to eat so i ate it, you try it.. this just doesnt wash. for starters, the first thing eve would really have said is "adam, come check this out, its a talking snake.".

  and even if she didnt, he would have said "what, a talking snake, this i gotta see".

  Get it in writing, do it by correspondence. I know some of this recently changed (September, no less). But the older view is that electronic comm is not a LEGAL INSTRUMENT. The older PAPER documents were Legal Instruments and skirted a lot of the difficulties in items 2-6.

  Item #1: no blocks at a time, correlate entries to see if that is happening; suspect those that do

  Item #9: they will insist on a Legal Instrument per transaction.

  I'm old-fashioned, but so are they. WTS won't like this, so that would drag the heels, good enough. I might be wrong, though; if they already have a mechanism in place, they could cooperate. I doubt it, though, with their history of adversarial conflict.

  However, if you did this and everybody jumped on the bandwagon, they could say the preaching is over. Everybody signed a legal notice and the END IS HERE!!! Ha, ha.

  I know I'm running behind here, but Clinton's push onto electronic documentation was premature. WTS is old-line on business methods, and there is good reason for that. The new stuff is too easy to fake or forge. Authentication is just not totally worked out for electronic stuff.

  Skimmer: there are OTHER facets to this type of approach. The brain-storming is a good idea.

  Still plenty to discuss and digest.
