i woke up this morning as you all did to this chaos that has enveloped our country, for those of you outside our country i am sure you were just as shocked.
nothing as devistating has happened during my lifetime.
although for some of you in countrys where terriosm is an everyday occurence i now can see the horror and heartache you must deal with on a daily basis.
Truly an astounding day.
My heart goes out to all those people who have lost family and friends in this horrific act.
I am also worried for those people living in America who are of Middle East origin. Hot-headed, stupid people seem to make it their business to retaliate against innocents who are of the "wrong" national origin.

mst, duane floyd checketts, 77 died in his sleep due to complications from pneumonia.
he is survived by his wife bette and two children, douglas checketts, patty smith, and 8 grandchildren.. duane, who was fondly called duke by everyone who knew him was born in farmington, utah on march 8, 1924. his father floyd, was one of 10 children raised in a tiny house built by his own mormon father who immigrated in the early 1860's from birmingham, england.

This is the point I was trying to get across to someone when they expressed great concern about my revelation of no longer considering myself a Christian. Their attitude was insulting, insinuating that my lifestyle might radically change into one of selfish debauchery (not the exact phrase they used, but it sums it up) without the fear of a deity. I suppose it is an attitude prevalant in the Christian faith, but only amplified in high-control groups like the WTS.

i was raised a jw and am now 46yrs old.
i stopped attending meetings at the beginning of this year for various reasons and only then gained the courage to check the net and see if anyone else like me was out there.

Welcome to the board. Such a nice name, when I was in jr. high I wished that I had been named Cassandra--I wanted the nick name Cassy.
There are several people here with circumstances similar to yours, some may even post after their morning cup of coffee. I am a nonJW married to a now inactive JW. My husband's family are JWs and his sister is married to a 3rd generation JW, so I can sort of imagine what it is like when one marriage partner makes changes regarding his/her faith.
I don't know if you have checked out the Personal Experiences forum or not, but you can find the backgrounds of several people there.

As long as I have some of the boards attention again, a Bethel speaker was in town a week ago discussing the subject of bloodless surgery. A special time and day was scheduled (Saturday evening/night) and apparently the event ran late. Does anyone know if this is a regular happenstance? Do Bethel speakers regularly come around to discuss this subject or only if there are new updates? Just trying to figure out what was said, because not only does it affect adult family members, but two beautiful kids I had the privilege of babysitting that night.

i was just wondering: never in my life have i owned (or even read) a bible other than the nwt.
i really wish to study the bible but really do not wish to use this version.
after seeing the plethora of bibles out there i was wondering if there is any person here who can give me an un-biased opinion on which bible to get.

Welcome to the board, saw your thread in the personal experiences forum.
If you would like to compare several versions of the bible, there used to be (and probably still is) an on-line site with several versions of the bible. It's called the World Wide Study Bible, sorry I don't have the url handy, but if you go to Yahoo or Google (or any other search engine of your choice) you should be able to find it.
I personally bought several versions of the bible to do comparisions when reading it. The WWSB allows the same thing on-line.
