Honest survey question on effectiveness of 'apostacy'

it seems like lots of people have big dreams of 'destroying the watchtower'.

it's usually linked to a story of how they were wronged and want some revenge.

do these 'in your face' attempts to convince people that the truth isn't the truth really have an effect?.

I'm grateful to Simon for being so honest in confirming his thoughts on activism. I obviously don't share them, but it explains a lot - to me anyway. I would rather do what's best for all of us and avoid any future confrontations on here. I don't feel particularly welcome any longer, especially now it's so obvious that my views are fundamentally at odds with those of the owner. Activism does work, and you only need to ask myself, Barb, or Eric over on JWstruggle and they will all tell you about the unmanageable volume of emails they've had from people who have woken up due to the work they're doing. And it's not just people who were going to wake up anyway. Never underestimate what damage a few seconds inadvertently clicking on the wrong website or video will do. Google is a great leveller.

Folks - it feels like we've moved in different directions. I confess this is sad, but I'm not bitter. To each their own, or "horses for courses" as besty said at the beginning.

I'm grateful to this forum for the support it gave me two years ago during my first forays into activism, and I will try to remember it for that.

I actually did walk away yesterday and woke up to find the thread being taken off topic by questions on the "outing" issue. I therefore thought Simon might appreciate it if I redirected such questions towards the relevant thread where this topic was discussed rather exhaustively, and apologies issued. Clearly I overstepped the mark in doing so (easily done, it seems).

Hello Simon, I notice your Detente didn't last long.

As you can hopefully see if you scroll up and apply the slightest bit of objectivity - I did not raise the outing issue, others did. And rather than mount an exhaustive defence I referred people to the thread where these issues were (in my view at least) laid to rest.

But if you want to ban me for fielding an off-topic question as succinctly as I could, by all means be my guest. After all, if I am not allowed to defend myself against accusations I know to be false or even apologise for accusations that are well-founded, then my membership of this forum is beyond pointless. I refuse to be your whipping boy.

It was not a "secret" group in the begining. It "later" became a "secret" group closed to the public also due to pressue from JWN members.

This is simply not true. The official AAWA group set up by AAWA volunteers WAS secret all along, hence the confusion on our part as to how secure it was. The issue was that those who were force added on the first day were exposed to danger if anyone joined the group (either intentionally by some means unknown to us, or by being force-added themselves) with malicious intent. Please read the thread above where I explain it all.

You mean the apology that was issued only due to pressure from JWN members? And not on your own?

In the begining you NEVER apologized. It was others who did so. And when you finally did. It was always AAWA apologieze. Or. We apologize.

I apologize personally for my involvement. I should have insisted on the group being closed down straight away. If you missed it in the thread above, I am happy to repeat.

mind blown, if you and others are determined to think the very worst of me there is very little I can do about it, even with all the evidence in the world.

If I say nothing I am accused of being cruel and uncaring. If I say something (explaining where explanations are needed and apologizing where apologies are needed) I am accused of being obsessive and ego-driven. It's the quintessential no-win scenario.

As to this...

Even though someone else pulled the FB trigger, you were President, and could have stopped the continued onslot of outting.

I've already apologized for not closing the "secret" group more quickly. I was informed that it was safe because only members could see who was inside, but as soon as it became apparent that certain people could somehow add themselves freely I and others made sure it was closed. I can only apologize, as I have done repeatedly.

Cedars, you're nuts - you should get some professional help. I know you won't but hopefully your wife will read this and make you (unless she's completely made up or constructed out of dead body parts)

It's regrettable that someone who speaks so vocally against insults so freely dishes them out. Now I am married to frankenstein's monster and "nuts" for expressing myself freely - or would "mentally diseased" be more to your liking?

Anyway, this is your forum. It has been proven time and again that I am not allowed to express a viewpoint that differs from yours unless I am willing to brace myself for a string of patronizing remarks and ad hominem, either from you or from your pitbull OUTLAW. To top it off I now have a reduced comment quota, so if evidence were needed that the house always wins - there it is.

At least I have said my piece for the record - that is assuming you don't "sanitize" this piece of evidence of your bullying tendencies as you have others. I don't have anything to add.
