she has an appointment with local police tomorrow afternoon, as she has lodged a complaint under the 'hate crimes' act.
it has been suggested that this issue may merit some media coverage, and with this in mind i have prepared a draft press release.

Thanks Atlantis - I just think this is an important discovery, and it would be better if the original transcripts were downloadable so that any Witnesses clicking onto this thread could see for themselves that nobody is making this stuff up.
I've just commented on another thread where Russell arrogantly dismissed a reader who wrote into the Watch Tower questioning his chronology behind 606 BCE. He was a truly horrible little bearded man!! And a liar too, by the sounds of things.
while cruising through the oct 1 1904 watctower i found this interesting challenge to russells 606 date.
his response in part is also pasted from the wt, but goes on to a very lengthy argument that seems to avoid all the known facts.
not being very good at understaning the issue at all, i wonder what those here more scholarly than i might make of his full reply.
Great find Aussie Oz - I think the really beauty of this extract is NOT how well-reasoned or correct the correspondent's query/observation was, but the way that Russell so freely exposed his arrogance in the reply that was given. He arguably did more harm to his reputation than good by posting the question (along with his remarkable response) in the first place, because little did he know that 107 years later people like you and I would be reading his words and gasping in incredulity at the disdain with which he treated any readers who dared to question his ideas. The amount of time that has passed since 1914 is increasingly proving that it was HE who was in contradiction of both facts and scripture more than anyone else, and this article proves that, quite apart from his ignorance, he reserved the utmost contempt for anyone who dared to offer an alternative opinion. Are these the traits of a "faithful and wise servant"?
I'm pretty sure the modern Society wouldn't be as stupid as Russell was by betraying their own arrogance so freely. They conceal their collective arrogance behind closed doors, and smiling portraits for the magazines. They certainly wouldn't be silly enough to give reasoned arguments against the folly of their teachings any column inches in the modern Watchtower magazine.

I just think it's sad that the Society insists on micro-managing even such a seemingly innocuos part of a young person's life as the question of whether or not they choose to join a school sports team. That, to me, would surely fall under "matters of conscience", and yet in this article it is spoken of in the same breath as tax evasion, telling lies and becoming unevenly yoked. It just sickens me to think that the Governing Body even WANT to have that much control over young people. Have they no more serious issues to be worrying about in the worldwide brotherhood than whether young ones are playing basketball for their school teams?!! What goes on in the minds of these people?!

What irritates me about the property sales is the amount of VOLUNTARY LABOR that went into making these properties so marketable in the first place. The Society will be flushed with funds from the sale of the Brooklyn estate, and it will have more money than it will know what to do with. And yet, it will continue to roll out the installation of credit card payment machines at assembly halls, and rake in those donations from gullible publishers who assume that the whole thing would crumble around them if they didn't donate their hard-earned cash.
I just feel sorry for all those many well-meaning volunteers who spent their valuable time and skills making those buildings so attractive. None of them will see a single cent for their efforts. It will all just pour into the Watch Tower coffers.

hi everyone, i am going through the dec 15th study edition of the wt thanks to a tip-off that this issue is now available online at jw.org.. in the article "guided by god's spirit in the first century and today" on page 25 there is a bizarre argument put forward by the society about the difference between spirit-anointed and spirit-appointed.. this touches on a subject that i have often wondered about, which is this.
why are spirit anointed brothers and sisters (memorial partakers) not given positions of oversight in the congregation by default?
i know it sounds like a stupid question, but please think about it for a moment.

my youngest is studying law.
browsing through one of her books i came across a chapter freedom of association.
it covers the well known categories, colour, race, religion, sexuality etc.
