i've been thinking about the recent developments in the uk following the "apostates = mentally diseased" article in the july 15th edition of the watchtower.
to provide a bit more background, a forum member named amelia has recently had a meeting with uk police officers who subsequently took a copy of the article for their records.
they agreed that the content could potentially incite people to hatred against disaffected witnesses, and the copy is now on file with the uk police in case there are any future incidents of hateful acts against "apostates", including violence or even stalking.. i am working on a press release to make the public more aware of the idealogical oppression being meted out by the society on those who oppose them, both inside and outside the organization.

she has an appointment with local police tomorrow afternoon, as she has lodged a complaint under the 'hate crimes' act.
it has been suggested that this issue may merit some media coverage, and with this in mind i have prepared a draft press release.
Yes I agree, that's what the police said too. However, if any individual witness commits an offence (including stalking) against another witness because they consider them an apostate, the police now have the "mentally diseased" watchtower on file, and it could be successfully argued that the individual concerned committed the offence because they were incited to do so by the defammatory language in the Watchtower article.
Does that now make sense, or am I missing something?

soft+gentle - no I'm not forgetting anything, I think it's more complicated than you suggest. For example, I personally hate being labelled an apostate (after all, it is the Society who has apostasized, not me), but by very definition I am an "apostate" to the Society just by posting on this forum EVEN though I am not currently DFd or DAd. There are many in a similar situation as me who live in constant fear of being ousted from their own families. I agree that it's difficult to imagine a witness committing an "offence" against another witness simply because they are committing acts of apostasy against the organization, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Some on this forum have suggested it's only a matter of time. The police who visited Amelia said that "stalking" could also be trigger action against the Society if a witness is stalked (I'm thinking elder investigations, "shepherding" etc) through suspicion of them being an apostate.

it has now been over two years since i was df'd.
in that time i have had limited contact with my 17 year old son, the younger, and almost no contact with my 20 year old.
the older boy was baptized 5 years ago and sadly the younger just recently took the plunge into the "pool-aid".

erbie - yes it is incredible that people actually believed this once, and that the organization that promoted this teaching still flourishes to this day without anyone calling its judgment into question. It's a shame more Witnesses aren't aware of the Beth Sarim fiasco. I personally think it was all a conspiracy on the part of Rutherford to get a nice home to live in during the winter. He obviously enjoyed his luxury lifestyle judging by the type of car he was driving around in during such austere times, while the rest of America wallowed in poverty. I smell a scam...

Hilarious, love the way you have taken Rutherford's declaration as self-proclaimed bible scholar and woven it in with his prediction that Abraham and David would be resurrected in 1925.
One thing that has always struck me about the "ancient worthies" teaching (apart from how ludicrous it is) is that it would have been very easy for anyone who spoke Hebrew to turn up at Watch Tower HQ, claim to be the resurrected David (preferably wearing a tunic and beard) and get the keys to luxury accommodation at Beth Sarim. How on earth were they supposed to prove that anybody who tried that WASN'T King David, or any of the other ancient worthies for that matter? I'm surprised nobody took advantage of this gaping opportunity to get a free luxury home during the aftermath of the Great Depression. If I were alive at the time, I definately would have learnt Hebrew and grown a beard just to try and pull it off...
my youngest is studying law.
browsing through one of her books i came across a chapter freedom of association.
it covers the well known categories, colour, race, religion, sexuality etc.

I agree with the Greatest Man book. You could probably throw in "See The Good Land", because it's mostly pictures and no writing!!
My Book of Bible Stories is good for the kids, not too much dogma in that.
Anything without dogma and procedure (Organized book etc), I really can't handle any of that anymore...
PS - It was the Daniel book that first made me realise how skewed the Society's handle on bible prophecy was, so from that perspective it was good...
