I'm not boasting in any way whatsoever. I'm sorry if it came across that way. I'm just illustrating that I'm not the only one that thinks there is a lack of intelligence on this forum. I even said that I don't consider myself intelligent in the previous post.
As I said - I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. I'm always open to alternative ideas. I just can't stand name-calling and sly remarks, I just can't handle any of that. Sorry I'm not more thick skinned, that is another of my downfalls.

Hi CoCo and dissed, thanks for your kind words. You're right, it is the 'nature of the beast'. It's a shame there aren't more "thoughtful, committed citizens" around. In no way do I expect everyone to agree with my ideas. Even I end up disagreeing with them sometimes on reflection. What I can't stand is nastiness, putdowns and wild accusations.
I'll probably find a blog somewhere, maybe on jwstruggle (if they'll have me), and just visit from time to time. I certainly don't intend to visit with anywhere near the frequency I was doing. It just isn't worth it.

sizemik - I agree that anonymity is a two way thing. If I had my way I would use a survey service that didn't gather IP addresses at all. I didn't ask for it to gather IP addresses - it's just a residual part of the service. I certainly don't intend to disclose them to anybody, or use them for nefarious means. In many ways, it's a shame that the Society engenders such paranoia in all active/inactive forum members, including me. Cantleave will testify as to how paranoid I am about confidentiality when corresponding. What I can't get my head around is the habit of certain forum members (and even moderators!) to jump to the worst possible conclusions about people, without consulting fully and looking at all of the available facts. I certainly can't understand the name-calling and ridicule I've been subjected to on this very thread. Some of it I last experienced in the school playground.
A very mature lady who is well known to this forum said some nice things to me very recently. She said she was glad I had joined the forum because I brought "intelligence" to it, a quality that was lacking. Until now I didn't really understand what she meant, but whilst I don't consider myself the most intelligent of people, I now understand where she's coming from. I can personally name Blondie, Sizemik, cantleave, jwfacts, leavingwt as being genuinely mature and intelligent posters. I'm sure there are others I'm not so familiar with or can't call to mind, but there is also a strong element of cynical, vindictive, sensationalist and down-right nasty posters who I frankly have no time for whatsoever.
Any serious undertaking such as this survey will fall at the first hurdle so long as there are people like that around who can throw spanners in the works.
cantleave - believe me, I WILL be putting this down to "experience", that's why I've had it with this forum. I might poke my head around the door periodically to see what's going on (a tactic that I've noticed posters like jwfacts employs) but I really don't have time for the relentless abuse if I come up with a genuinely good idea, particularly one that requires money. It's really sad. I will of course stay in contact with you personally via email etc, it's just that I have enough problems in life without actively pursuing them on here.

Thanks sizemik and cantleave, I'm sorry but I just don't feel like doing anything anymore. Lady Lee has far over-stepped his/her remit as a mod in my opinion. He/she shut down a thread where we were discussing funding because he/she wanted to have the last word. I then took his/her advice and wrote a lengthy email to Simon explaining the situation and offering a compromise that would allow me to gather donations but in a less conspicuous manner. I have still received no response to that email, and I thought it best in the meantime to put the funding to one side and battle on with the survey regardless.
I then come online to find I am being accused of being an informant for the Society. I give an answer to explain how ludicrous this would be given my previous posts on this forum, but no response from my accuser is forthcoming. Unsurprisingly, the number of responses on the survey nose-dives during all this controversy, as people feel they can no longer trust me to keep their details confidential, even though I take people's anonymity extremely seriously, as it was a pledge that was made on page 1 of the survey.
Finally, I wake up this morning to find myself being accused of orchestrating an elaborate scam to extract the princely sum of $400 from unsuspecting forum members! What really baffled me was that this accusation came from the very person who had forbade all mention of funding and closed down previous threads for this very reason. Now he/she has arbitrarily chosen to re-open the matter in a very public way without expressing her doubts or concerns to me privately. In my opinion, this is not behaviour that is becoming of a responsible moderator.
I just can't handle all this nonsense. I would rather find another online resource where the members are more mature and considerate. I'm only sticking around until this thread gets closed down by Lady Lee (which is almost inevitable) so that I can clear my name before migrating to pastures new.

Thanks Scotsman, I really appreciate your sentiments. Unfortunately it looks like people who are serious about taking action against the Society are stifled on this forum. It is baffling to see how quickly anybody who tries to implement ideas that actually require spending money are leapt upon and mercilesslty smeared and ridiculed by those who claim to be on the same side. Like I said earlier, perhaps this is why the Society has managed to wield such unchallenged authority for all these decades. Any organized efforts to dethrone them are compromised from within.

Hilarious, thanks Outlaw. I'm loving the mutley laughing / sticking the boot in thing you've got going there - pure class.
TimothyT - I appreciate your genuine remarks. I wish more people on this forum were like you, unlike those that try to ridicule/undermine other people's ideas. Thanks for your support. I just really can't bring myself to try anymore after this latest onslaught.
I quit.

n.b. - two donations totalling $70 USD were sent to the PayPal account. I have refunded both of them, and cantleave will be able to verify that the donations were received and the refunds were sent.

Lady Lee - thank you for your scathing critique of my survey idea.
I find it ironic that you closed down the last thread in which the issue of funding was raised (even though no money was asked for on that thread) because evidently you wanted to have the final say, and said "any further conversation on this topic is in breach of item 11 of the site rules" or whatever it is you said before promptly closing down the thread, thereby ending any further debate.
On this particular thread, I have opened with the remark:
If you are familiar with the survey having followed it on this forum, you will be aware that certain issues have recently arisen regarding funding. I would prefer not to discuss these on this thread, since it is against site policy to do so. Rest assured, I am in discussions with site management on finding a way forward. In the meantime, I welcome your continued feedback on the survey itself, and any questions or comments you may have regarding it.
Now, it seems that you have arbitratily re-opened the issue of funding, even though I was attempting to show respect for your newly imposed site rules by refraining from discussing the issue after you expressly forbade any further discussion on the subject. Now you have lifted the ban without any notice, and rather than sending me a PM in which you can voice your concerns to me directly, you are openly slandering my motives in running the survey. Well that's just great.
If you're not aware of the pricing structure of surveymonkey.com - then all you need to do is take some initiative and visit the website. Here is the link since you don't seem bothered to find it yourself, but would rather resort to issuing wild accusations:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/pricing/?ut_source=header
I'm based in Europe, and in order to get unlimited responses each month I need to pay 300 Euros (that's $400) on the "Gold" plan. That's all I know, maybe you can wait for someone in Europe to confirm this.
I'm growing increasingly despondent about doing ANYTHING that might thwart the efforts of the Governing Body to continue to exercise their control over us. It seems that I am being blocked at every turn by those who are supposed to be on my side, which I'm sure they (the GB) would be delighted with. That's probably why they've wielded such an iron grip on the organization for so long - because any organized attempts at bringing them down dissolve into bickering and mud-slinging.
I'm sure its no coincidence that your implications that my motives are fraudulent came on the back of DesirousofChange (such an ironic name)suggesting that I might be some kind of undercover elder seeking to unmask everyone via their IP addresses. I gave a thorough response to DesirousofChange which I felt merited some kind of answer, but I have received none. Nobody finds it odd that, as an alleged 'undercover agent' of the GB, I have become so "covert" as to contact every major news channel and newspaper in the UK for the purpose of exposing the Governing Body over their "mentally diseased" article. One correspondent even contacted me back, and also spoke to cantleave (so cantleave can confirm this), and he is investigating the story. Still, nobody bothers to look up previous posts like this before openly slandering me and my intentions:
I came to JWnet as a haven from the organization that I have recently left behind. I was delighted to find a community where I could express my doubts among comrades who felt the same way. The problem is - I started to have ideas, good ideas, about how to undermine the Governing Body's grip on the R&F, and suddenly, because I am trying to put these ideas into action, my motives are being brought into question and I am being publicly labelled everything from a money-grabber to an undercover agent - simply for making the mistake of TRYING.
Well I throw the towel in. I won't try to do anything else or come up with any ideas, since obviously this is banned on this forum (maybe it's even in violation of site rules, since everything else seems to be). I'll email cantleave and ask him to return the $25 donation we received from somebody who was stupid enough to agree with me that a survey would be a good idea.
Lady Lee - I know you'll close down this thread when you read this reply, because that's what you did last time when you wanted to have the final word. I just wanted you to know, however, that I'm fed up with all this bickering and back-stabbing, just because I genuinely wanted to try and do something that would make a difference. How foolish of me.
