i have been inspired recently by some of the comments on this forum regarding the society having reached a "tipping point".
it's been observed that, despite the overwhelming weight of evidence that the society is nothing more than a damaging cult, the number of witnesses continues to increase, albeit gradually.
the latest figures i have available are those in the 2011 yearbook, showing a global 2.5% increase between 2009 and 2010.. as we all know, the internet is steadily rising in accessibility (or "penetration") around the world, and it provides a wonderful resource for those who are curious about joining the faith, helping such ones to quickly identify precisely how warped the teachings of the watch tower society really are.

hi everyone.
as a parting gift to you all before i take a much needed break from this forum, i thought you would be pleased to know that the independent, a leading uk newspaper, will be publishing a piece on the "mentally diseased" watchtower article in tomorrow's edition.. i would like to thank everybody who has assisted the journalist, jerome taylor, in his investigation.. best wishes to all of you,.

LV101 - I don't think I'm being modest, just realistic. I'm proud I played a small role in something that has raised awareness to our cause, even if it has only served to give us all something to cheer about. However, I suspect it has done much more than that. I'm sure there will be those who will genuinely have thought twice about embracing Witness beliefs after reading those articles.
I still think of cantleave, nugget and Amelia in their police interview, explaining the situation face-to-face to complete outsiders. I think they did more actual "work" in this whole process than I ever needed to. Anyway, it's a team effort!
Thanks for the kind sentiments though, and best of luck in your own efforts!!

outsmartthesystem - couldn't agree more. If I could reword my summation to reflect that intention, I would do so. Unfortunately it appears that it is now too late. Hopefully most people will realise that the word "ignorant" wasn't used in its negative sense, but I will be more careful next time.

zoiks - thanks for that! I haven't really done anything. All I did was hide behind a laptop and a telephone - cantleave and Amelia were the ones being interviewed by police!
I agree that correlation does not necessarily equate to causation, it's far more complicated than that, and I apologise if (in my normal over-exuberance) I have given that impression. Hopefully this thread will at least inspire the more brainy ones among us to investigate!

life is to short - I don't really think too much about people saying that it won't achieve anything, I just tend to get on with it. It might last a couple of days, it might last a week - maybe it's already reached its zenith? Only time will tell. Even if it was just a flash in the pan, it was worth it if it made ONE PERSON think again.
I have posted a thread on how the spread of the internet is notably impacting on publisher growth. In my view, it's only a matter of time before the Society folds, and becomes nothing more than a tiny movement perpetuated by a few hardcore zealots. The only question is, how much time? It certainly won't happen by itself, and anything we can do to accelerate this eventuality is welcome. I personally don't think I've done much. Probably people assume I've done more than I actually have. I tend to look at it in terms of "if we can accomplish this much with minimal effort, what might we achieve if we REALLY try?!"
The grip of the Governing Body is weakening, and it is the enthusiasm and positive attitude of people like you that will bring about their fall from grace more quickly.

This is no mean undertaking but would be an interesting project
I agree! Any statisticians in the house?!!
I think Mad Sweeney wants to investigate in a bit more detail...

Thanks nugget, I agree completely that there are whole range of factors influencing the percentage of growth for certain countries, which is why I stated Cuba and Malaysia as countries that bucked the general trend. However, surely it can be no coincidence that the overall trend indicates that the higher the internet penetration, the slower the rate of growth.
A good way of finding out for sure would be to do an analysis of historical trends, but contrary to cantleave's suspicions, I don't have the time!!

discreetslave - I've never heard the internet likened to Babel before, but I can well imagine that analogy being used by the Society in their efforts to impugn any avenue of knowledge.
If my memory of Josephus serves me correctly, the tower of Babel was built by Nimrod as an act of defiance against God because of the flood. His idea was to build a tower so high that any future deluge would not be able to consume it. It was basically intended as a means of avoiding a future apocalypse, rather than simply an innocent attempt at building an ancient skyscraper for the sake of it. I'm not sure that similar motives could be levelled at those who surf the net.

Mad Sweeney - that's a good point. The 2.5% global increase INCLUDES the 14.3% growth in "other lands". It would be interesting to see a revised figure with "other lands" omitted.
Another interesting theory is that the "other lands" figure is purely fictitious, and is inflated by the Society if their growth results are negative.
I don't have a scan of the results, I just have the yearbooks in hard copy. If you PM me your email I can try scanning and emailing them to you if you want to investigate this subject further?
