  Sky News emailed about UK charitable status

  following the recent breakthrough i have just sent the following email to sky news, expanding on the issue of the "mentally diseased" article to incorporate the issue of uk charitable status.

  i feel this is a good angle to go at, because sky news tends to focus on uk economic policy issues quite extensively.

  5 million per year in government gift aid being frittered away on a charity that condones breaking-up families and blocking medical treatment seems to me to be a newsworthy item.. here is the email.

  Thanks MissingLink. Unfortunately the "apostates must die" comment in the November 2011 Watchtower was a quote taken from a book, so the moment the journalist calls the Society they can simply say "we were only quoting somebody else's book, why don't you contact the author and give him a hard time instead?" Also, the 'practical application' paragraph at the end of the subheading dilutes the hate message somewhat.

  I never heard anything back from Sky News, which is disappointing because I've been monitoring the news over the last couple of days and they've been reporting on some really trivial stuff, an example being some guy who goes around schools with a powerpoint presentation and lectures teenagers on the airbrushing of fashion photos. What??!!

  I haven't given up on getting a news team to investigate the charitable status of the Society, but I will need to be a bit more creative! Watch this space!

  2011 Global Survey of Jehovah's Witnesses

  since leaving the organization 8 years ago, there have been more significant changes in the actual, physical activities of the organization than occurred in all the 40 plus years i was 'in'.

  bethel closings.

  bethel layoffs.

  To my mind, all the pieces are there - it's just up to us to make them fit.

  Wouldn't it be great if:

  • A former member of the Governing Body had left and released 2 books detailing all the flaws of the organization and exposing it as just another human religion that is obsessed with its own past?
  • Detailed summaries were freely available online, all factually based, giving those trapped within the organization the opportunity to see for themselves how flawed the Society's teachings are?
  • The organization had teachings that flouted basic humanitarian and social principles that could be easily identified and exposed, such as shunning, refusal to accept medical treatment, virulent opposition to freeness of thought?
  • The flagship magazine of the Society continued to print extremely ill-advised and hateful messages that could be brought to the attention of the world's media and authorities?
  • The organization had made serious errors of judgment in recent history, including hypocritically joining (for a 9 year period) the UN, which it vilifies through its publications?
  • We had online resources such as global internet forums where we could all come together and discuss ideas and strategies for banding together and more easily facilitating the spreading of the real truth about the organization through avenues such as the media?

  These are just a few of the many developments, many of which have only transpired (or been made possible) in the last 20 or 30 years, which weigh heavily in our favour and give us an overwhelming advantage over those in previous generations who have gone before us.

  All we need is the belief and bravery to put all the pieces together, and make it happen.

  "Mentally diseased" article to be published in The Independent tomorrow

  hi everyone.

  as a parting gift to you all before i take a much needed break from this forum, i thought you would be pleased to know that the independent, a leading uk newspaper, will be publishing a piece on the "mentally diseased" watchtower article in tomorrow's edition.. i would like to thank everybody who has assisted the journalist, jerome taylor, in his investigation.. best wishes to all of you,.

  Seriously, will any Oz citizens be writing to the Senator? If anybody needs help writing an email/letter, please PM me and I will help you put something together. This is an important opportunity. I would write to him myself, but I think an email/letter from an actual Australian citizen might just carry a bit more weight!!

  I'm wondering whether it might be worthwhile if our Aussie friends try writing to Senator Nick Xenophon (he sounds like he should be a comic book hero?) in advance of the conference? He already appears to be on the case with the Scientologists - maybe we can raise his awareness of the impact of shunning on the JW community?

  I have now! It's great to see this spreading! I really like the way the article is written originally and isn't just a rehash of the Independent article. It will be fascinating to see if anything comes from the conference that they have planned.

"suppose that a doctor told you to avoid contact with someone who is infected with a contagious, deadly disease," part of the article stated.. "you would know what the doctor means, and you would strictly heed his warning.

  I have to admit I was surprised at the use of the words "investigation" and "inquiry" in the press reports.

  Mind you, they must have a legal basis for doing so, or they would be vulnerable to action through the press complaints commission.
