So after 18 years (since the age of 5) I have converted from the JWs to Protastant Christianity. I have been biblically shown what I believe to be truths about the Trinity, Hell, and Heaven (ideas that I debated against classical Christians for many years) since I left the Witnesses. I read a lot of things on this site (as well as others) that really confuses me. It seems that a good deal of (if not most) Ex JWs become either Atheist or Agnostic it seems. They stop seeking God and seem to just forget about Him. Why is this?

So why
by bushido8000 init has become very apparent to me very quickly that this forum is dominated by ex-jws.
i have many questions and topics to present but i first want to know who i am presenting these questions and topics to so i have 2 questions that i would like as many of yall to answer as possible.. .
question 1: did you leave the organization out of the blue or were you first disfellowshipped?.

Desirousofchange I hope you didn't take my comments wrong. This topic isn't a "challenge" to ex-JWs or anything like that. The last topic I posted was only answered by ex-JWs and it was really intended for JWs to answer. by "dominated" I didn't mean that I was irritated by it or anything haha. I just meant that it really appears that MOST of the people on this site are ex-JWs, even though there are a lot of JWs on the site.
Btw thanks to everyone who has responded so far.

Question 2: For the people who left out of the blue, What made you leave the organization? For the people who were disfellowshipped, exactly why were you disfellowshipped? (the more detail about the situation, the better)
I'm really curious about the answers as I have seen both ex members who were justified in being disfellowshipped and just talk smack because they are bitter and also people who were very unjustly disfellowshipped who really deserved an apology.

My trouble
by bushido8000 ini have been facing a small dilemma for some years now.
i have been in the truth since i was 5 years old.
after experiencing some troubles with man-made rules (non-scriptural, told me that i absolutely could not join my small school's football team) in the kingdom hall when i was about 16, i stopped going to take a step back and look at what was going on.

I have been facing a small dilemma for some years now. I have been in the Truth since I was 5 years old. After experiencing some troubles with man-made rules (non-scriptural, told me that I absolutely could not join my small school's football team) in the Kingdom Hall when I was about 16, I stopped going to take a step back and look at what was going on. I then started going back to the meetings when I was 20 (I moved to a place where there were no Kingdom Halls so I couldn't go back until I was 20) only to find more of the same thing happening, but not even towards me. I met an elder at the congregation who seemed to have a lot of the same views as me admitted that there were a lot of elitists in the Truth.
I am now 22 and I have had many battles with myself over my personal beliefs vs. The Kingdom Hall's. I have always loved the Truth and have always had a great love for Jehovah while at the same time trying to throw away any elitist personality traits that come with many JWs and wish that the rest of JWs would too as I find myself judged all the time by other members.
I have thought about leaving the church many times but the thing is that without the church I feel alone in my beliefs and not receiving enough spiritual food. I fully believe in 99% of JW's scriptural beliefs and can't simply go to another church since many of their core beliefs would contradict mine. If I could simply go to the meetings as an invisible man and not have to come in contact with other people I would.
I write my troubles not for the unbelievers to see an opportunity to convert me into leaving the Truth, but for other JWs, as well as those with the same mindset as me, to see my troubles and try to help me to correct them.
Please help

JW's Thoughts on Medical Cannabis
by bushido8000 ini've wondered this for sometime.
to all of the jws on the forum, what is your opinion on medical cannabis?
i support it for a couple of reasons.. 1. i've battled clinical depression since age 9. after my anti-depressants stopped working when i was 21, i heard about cannabis' positive effects on depression through the internet and a couple of documentaries so i tried it.

Babyruth I'm extremely sorry to hear that. I believe they should have publically apologized to him during a meeting since being df'd seems to be a very embarrassing event.
The right thing: wrongfully publically embarrassing someone = publically apologizing for your wrong doing. Simple as that. I know I wouldn't go back if something similar happened to me. I hope the wrong-doing of those men didn't turn your son away from Jehovah altogether.

So could you be disfellowshipped for using medical marijuana? I'm guessing not because it seems pretty obvious that it's a conscience matter. I've talked to other brothers in the congregation in real life who were against it and they could only give me a couple of scriptures that seemed very iffy. They sounded like you could LOOSELY tie them to medical marijuana if you tried really hard.
On another note, I'm finding it strange how people are saying that marijuana is OK as long as it's processed (basically turned into a toxin with the way our pharmaceutical industry works) and in pill form. Why is this? Where in the Bible does it address our medicines coming in pill form? Why can't it be eaten in a cookie or vaporized? And what exactly is wrong with smoking it? I've been told that it's because smoking is supposed to be some kind of spiritual act but haven't been given any scriptures to back this claim.
Also, I don't really consider medical marijuana to be a mind-altering drug. I've never done anything after taking it that I normally wouldn't do (unlike alcohol). I don't feel any inhibitions lowered. I'm definitely not saying that there aren't any effects but I would describe them more like taking a mixture of Epinephrine and Benadryl at the same time (for those of you who have had severe allergic reactions).
I'm really enjoying this forum btw and thanks to everyone who has responded.

1. I've battled clinical depression since age 9. After my anti-depressants stopped working when I was 21, I heard about Cannabis' positive effects on depression through the internet and a couple of documentaries so I tried it. I was suprised to find that it totally knocked depression out of my life (even when I was on anti-depressants I still had trouble with bouts of severe depression) and at the same time I didn't become lazy/fat. also noticed that my lungs/asthma have never been noticebly affected by it.
2. I find it interesting that man feels so self-rightious that he deems himself worthy of banning/eradicating one of Jehovah's creations. I hear a lot from the Christian community that Marijuana is evil and should stay banned. Do they think that Marijuana was God's mistake? I myself do not believe that Jehovah is capable of error.
P.S. Some background on me, I've been in the truth since age 5 and still am.

While we are on the topic. Can anyone else suggest artists of a similar status? Musicians who you believe deserved all of the spotlight but are rarely noticed?
