notice to the governing body: today, as the arrest was discussed in the news media by officer corona, the sherrif of orange, county, california, speaking of samantha runion, he said to the accused, "mr. avila, she became our little girl!

" ... yes, the police, public and media joined forces to find the girl and the perpetrator ... as though she was their own daughter.

that is what we call community committment, love, and concern.

23,720 in the USA, Canada & Europe

Population for Canada is approximately the same as for Texas or California. In other words the entire population for that country is less than some US States. I doubt it makes much impact on the total numbers.

What is Europe? All of Western Europe, does it include the United Kingdom? (we know how the WTBS uses land instead of country)

I would assume if you throw in a number of smaller countries in Western Europe than the total Witnesses would equal the US total.

Therefore the US pedophile number must be approximately 1/2 the total 23,720 . 11,860 divided by 50 states= 238 per state .

My state has a population of just over 2,000,000 so I guessing it doesnt have that number and other states have more.

If the question was directed to me:

I assigned 5000 of the total to the USA

I did not break down by state population although many western states have very small populations and therefore JW's.

I gave a very low estimate of 100 cases per state (any state although Population wise MA would be higher)

I assumed only 33 cases were reportable under the law regarding ministers

I believe I gave the society the benefit of the doubt in all my figures.

Yet the Boston Globe article barely mentions any JW cases, making it appear that few have been received.

Just wondering if this is correct.

Does anyone think it is rather odd that very, very few JW molestation cases are being reported to the District Attorneys in MA?

We have a number of 23,720 for USA Canada & Europe, (Europe is vague, but let's say parts of Western Europe).

If the 23,720 were all in the US we would have 475 cases per state. So if we only assigned 1/4 of the total cases to the US & 100 cases to each state and we said only 1/3 of the cases involve a Minister (elder or MS) that's still 33 cases per state. Yet, apparently the number reported to the authorities is only one or two. Doesn't sound reasonable, did the legal dept find a loophole maybe the minister clause?

is this in the bbc panaroma transcript or did wtbs admit the number to the mp in a different letter?

I wish I had read your post earlier, I simply can not believe you would deny the 23,720 number by stating that the accusations are FALSE. Do you think disgruntled Jehovah's Witnesses accuse others of sexual abuse in an attempt to extract some type of vengeance?

You need to educate yourself, I realize it may be a new experience but it isn't that difficult with the use of the internet.

I think you make a very good point. Before Dateline we wondered if we could ever get any attention directed to the Watchtower, would the press ever do a story? Just think how much has changed in the last month and a half, lot's of press, BBC Panaroma, and now even British MP's looking into the matter. If the BBC Panaroma is shown in the USA then I would expect more fallout.

So what have we accomplished and where do we go from here? Very good question, it is time for a reassessment.

I want accountability, I want the truth of the situation explained so clearly that even the humblest JW knows what actually happened and is able to assess the matter for themselves. No more lies.

Hope I didn't get your thread off the subject earlier, but the Catholic charter has some very good points to consider.

What I'm asking is - are children as safe as they can be in the congregations NOW? Have we succeeded in our primary objective of ensuring children's safety?

I don't know but it seems to be missing a few protections........

In my former congregation a registered sex offender was allowed complete anonymity. No talk from the platform, no gossip allowed, no warnings to other parents. Why? The courts convicted him without "two witnesses". The courts only used DNA, the victim's account and the pedophile's confession, that was not good enough for the elders. (he recanted confession to the elders) Remember Paul Giles says that WTBS will not accept a court conviction unless it meets WTBS standards.

So if they are not notified of registered sex offenders than how safe can they be ?

Is that enough you ask? What about the victims? What about responsibility for the actions? What about removing all elders involved?

The catholics got a Charter for the protection of children, where the bishops acknowledge our mistakes and our role in that suffering, and we apologize and take responsibility for too often failing victims and our people in the past

The witnesses got JR Brown saying: "If during that meeting the accused still denies the charges and there are no others who can substantiate them, the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time"
