Thanks for all the great replies - they're more support than just about everyone in my blood "family" or my lifelong JW "friends" ever gave me.

How many of you haven't fared too well since your exit?
by i_drank_the_wine ini know that i've had a hard time piecing things back together after losing my wife and family a couple years ago and haven't really gotten the ball rolling to say the least.
just curious to hear if anyone else is in the same boat, or was in the same boat and how long it took them to get a "new life" figured out and going..

Money is nothing that the WT wizards are short on. Facts, love, and other benefits are another story though.

A Letter to My Sons ... A Request for Help
by 00DAD init has now been over two years since i was df'd.
in that time i have had limited contact with my 17 year old son, the younger, and almost no contact with my 20 year old.
the older boy was baptized 5 years ago and sadly the younger just recently took the plunge into the "pool-aid".

I hope everything works out for you. I tried to save my family too, but only got the perma-cold-shoulder instead. I wish I had done more research into the psychology of dealing with cult people before I gave it my all.
Best wishes to a caring mother.

Are you going to Auxilliary Pioneer this October?
by Quarterback inthe little demo at the ca showed a young fella meditating and by golly he reasoned that october had an extra weekend so that was reason enough for him to put in a a pioneer application.
what a brilliant idea.. who else will be doing this?.
-

I was thinking of spending 50 hours in October watching grass grow instead - it's far more fruitful than giving away watchtowers and taking coffee breaks for 50 hours a month.

I really want to go JW but..
by fortbethel ini've studied with like 30 diff denominations.
i really feel jw is best for me.
i think it's the 144,000 part & the once a year get together when they pass around the sacrament that bothers me most.
-
i_drank_the_wine
Forbethel - you seem like a sincere and well-meaning person. Is one of the 30 denominations that you've studied Atheism or Agnosticism? Just curious.
Personally, I do not believe that there is any almighty ancient Hebrew sky zombie, and even if there is some sort of god, I doubt he really cares too much what we do with our penis molecules. Don't beat yourself up over something so silly as porn. The fact that you are looking to try and find what you consider to be "truth" or the right path to walk shows that you have a conscience and a heart. Live life, continue to be a good person as you seem to be, and stop beating yourself up with guilt and this quest, when no one can deffinitively say they have the only 100% right answer to.

So who is going to do some kind of protest next Sunday?
by serenitynow! innext sunday is the discussion of the 7/15/2011 wt article about shunning.
i am planning to stand outside of a kh on a major street with a big banner that says that the jws do indeed destroy families with their shunning policy.
i will have many copies of the article that will be discussed that day.. anyone else have any plans?.
-
i_drank_the_wine
I have my own personal form of protest. It involves visiting a random kingdom hall, giving a good comment and a fake name to gain their trust, then giving a second comment that includes the word "f*ck" in it and acting like nothing happened.
Ok, well, I haven't gotten the juevos to do this plan yet... but some day...

Practical ways we can assist and improve the lives of jaydubs.
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. init's time all you mentally diseased and demon possessed heathen ex-jws acknowledged the fine works being achieved by the brothers.
afterall, there are many here who continue to espouse the ruputed fact that the jws they know, or are related to, are decent, honest, loving persons.. perhaps it's just me, but as i reflect, i wonder, where were all wonderful persons when i was in the cult?
a 'good' jw is a mythical creature, much like their god.. but anyhow, putting that aside - what are some down to earth practical ways we can help the brothers?.

Really there's very little that can be done. They have to do it.
You can bring a horse to water, but can't make them drink - that sort of thing.
When I left I told everyone in my large family that I wasn't going to be a JW ever again, and the reasons why. You can show them a laundry list of flaws, doctrinal holes, prophetic blunders, info on the WT's inglorious roots, UN, 607 - you name it. Until the person actually starts thinking on their own, there is no amount of accurate information that you can share that will make them budge - at least in my experience. I'd bet that most of my friends/family stopped reading the letters/emails I sent at the first sign of "apostasy".

What was your favorite convention beverage?
by i_drank_the_wine inthere's so many good choices, i can barely pick!.

There's so many good choices, I can barely pick!
Dart?
Shasta Cola?
Continental Cola?
half-frozen tiny OJ's?
I might return to the flock if they'd just bring the OG food services back.
Nothin' like talking to a pretty pioneer sister, fully covered from chin to ankles in a patterned dress, and asking them to dine with you during lunch. "Hey baby, can I get you a Shasta?" I'm kicking myself just thinking of all the heavy-petting and elder's meetings I'm missing out on.
