Things that made you cringe at "the meetings"
by i_drank_the_wine ini always cringed so hard when a "brother" or "sister" would make some overly heartfelt comment about jehovah-something, usually related to a personal experience of theirs, and get all teared up and/or start crying.. once this fringe dude that's been df'd twice now was giving a talk and kept having these long awkward pauses where he looked like he was real stressed out, then he would start up again, stutter, slip up, and repeat the process until he looked down and went "i, i just can't do this" and walked off the stage and left the hall.. it also made my spchincter pucker when a young person would give some super devotional comment on how much they love big j and whatnot, which would make the congregation all smile in their hearts and wag their heads in approval..

JW's? or GW's?
by i_drank_the_wine init seems quite obvious now that the governing body is really in the "god" position of the entire organization.
jw's claim to go only by the bible, however you cannot become a jw without using wt literature.
the governing body claims to be almighty g*d's sole mouthpiece (yet they deny being inspired like the prophets of the b*ble somehow).

Could the JW's survive another 1975?
by i_drank_the_wine inthe only years that i'm aware of in recent history that the jw's lost numbers was after the 1975 debacle.
someone posted on another thread about the damage control they're doing with the new "generation" nonsense with an assembly part where one person explains the "new light" to another that isn't too sure of it.. if they're having to do damage control like this over something relatively minor in comparison to 1975 (just some more "new light" as always), how do you think they would hold up under another 1975-level "oopsy"?
people seem to get less and less willing to be locked into religious systems that just don't conform with the modern world as it is.. if the internet was around, how many more people do you think would have google'd "jehovahs witnesses" at some point in 1976, perhaps while alone on the computer after the world didn't end?

How many of you haven't fared too well since your exit?
by i_drank_the_wine ini know that i've had a hard time piecing things back together after losing my wife and family a couple years ago and haven't really gotten the ball rolling to say the least.
just curious to hear if anyone else is in the same boat, or was in the same boat and how long it took them to get a "new life" figured out and going..

Do you ever fantasize...
by i_drank_the_wine in...about funny revenge plots on the jw's?.
- dressing up properly, going to a random memorial where the people don't know you, and "partaking of the emblems".
- going to a random kingdom hall where the people don't know you, give a couple "real" jw comments to earn trust / cred., give a third comment that contains the "f" curse in it, then act like nothing happened.

Do you think that the JW religion will die out?
by i_drank_the_wine inwhile the number of jw's reported every year is still growing, it doesn't seem to really be growing as fast as they once did.. do you think that they will eventually level off and then decline?
some of this was based on the stats on this page i was reading: http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/statistics.php granted, statistics can be presented in whatever light the author is trying to represent (look at the way the jw's massage their statistics to always be favorable).. of particular interest was their deductive math to find the number of people leaving yearly, which is pretty considerable.. a popular pew research study that lots of you probably heard about a couple years ago stated that jw's have the lowest family retention rate of any other mainstream religion.. combine the aging jw populace, the number of people leaving every year, the slowing growth rate numbers, the mindset held by many to "not have children in this system", the children that are had are only staying jw's roughly 1/3rd of the time according to statistics, the end never coming... add 20, 30 years?
could the jw's actually, for all intents and purposes, die out?.

A question JW's won't answer
by i_drank_the_wine incan you become a jehovah's witness only using the bible?.
of course the answer is "no" - you have to use their study books, washtowels, etc.
although i was raised in this cult, i still kick myself for not asking myself simple questions like this until i was a young adult.
