I never under stood that. The Bible very clearly spells it out. 144,000. 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel. Are there a lot of Israel descendants, or Jews, in the WT/JW?I always thought that was just about the best example of shoddy (or dishonest) interpretation, by the WT. Symbolic and literal, side by side, in the same verse... Sure.

WT opinion about anointed Christians
by Gorbatchov injesus said "look to the fruits" of real christians.. it is unbelievable that the wt says that new anointed christians are merely false.
how can humans decide who is anointed and who's not?.
how can the watchtower society say these unchristian statements?

what is truth - Pilate asked Jesus
by Ruby456 ini think pilate was being socratic when he asked jesus - what is truth?.
my question is to do with whether or not jesus was also being socratic when he said he had come to bear witness to the truth.
my idea is that both pilate and jesus were talking about a kind of ethics to live.

Nope.
He asked a rhetorical question. Not the same.

Just me?
by stuffwotifink inmy family are no longer in the shadow of the watchtower.
(2nd generation born in, but only a small family)for that i have to offer my thanks to simon and everyone on this forum whose posts helped expose me to ttatt (i struggle to say quite how much it actually means to me, so i won't say more than, thank you).it all took a year or two, but i've read enough to know that i'm incredibly lucky and that it all happened for me in a very short time.although time turns to syrup when you have to wait.
"expectation postponed..." will the platitudinous catchphrase scriptures ever stop coming to mind?when i started to tell my family some of the things i'd been learning online, they looked at me with no little fear and trepidation.

On a side note: I'm a doxastic non-voluntarist.
But dubs certainly do seem to choose their beliefs, I may need to consider my position. -

if anyone had tried to convince me of any of tatty, it would have just made me determined not to listen
MmmHmm, that was me. I honestly can't think of a soul I'd have allowed to "stumble" me. Glad though I am that I stumbled. -

I wasn't beating myself up, I think a bit of shame is healthy, it was bloody shameful.
But I understand your point, "If you brought 2 in then at least it wasn't 3 ... and so on", we did what we did and it's done. [to construct as redundant a sentence as I possibly can.]I've shunned a parent and been shunned by a parent. I know both sides of the deal.
Damn, that is a rollercoaster and no messin'. It is a wonder, the positions this cult leaves people in. -

Cult or Religion

its open to debate.
who has the authority to say for certain what is a cult and what is a religion?

Hold on a second. You said:the actual dictionary word full meaning of cult,, the cult or movement is led by a charismatic leader.
And then you told me that you don't know enough about the GB to decide if they are a "composite charismatic leader".
Seems slightly dishonest to now say they are not a cult, without knowing enough about their leadership to even tell if they meet a criterion you set on cults... Jus' sayin'. -

If you don't know enough about the leaders of the religion to comment upon them - Perhaps you are in no place to judge if the religion is a cult or not.
(and this thread becomes pointless. Go research the GB.)
Just a thought.
I'll respectfully leave your other point. Either you don't understand me, or I don't understand you. But we're speaking past each other.
Peace out. -

I think what im trying to say is many have misinterpreted the religion which has caused them harm
Bro, I'm not trying to be funny... But all you are doing is repeating the claim that there is a "true" interpretation (now of the religion, not bible), and they don't have it.
To make that statement you would have to have it yourself.
Do you?
And for the third time: Do you not consider the GB to be a composite charismatic leader?
I do - which sort of answers the question in regards to being a cult - for me. -

@stuffwhatifink I dont think you have read my earlier posts, ive explained wht i meant by that
I did.
You did not. (Unless I misunderstand you)
Quoting something Jebus said does not demonstrate that your understanding or "interpretation" is the "true" one. The argument as to the bible's "True meaning" is hardly over, hence sects and denominations...
And as I asked before (the formatting is odd on that page, perhaps you missed it), do you not consider the GB to be a composite charismatic leader?
